its wild the degree to which people talk about reading and eating in similar terms - the concept of a "reading diet", of "media consumption", the idea of certain stories as "empty calories" or "fast food" and some as "eating your vegetables", the moralization of both as personal failings, the framing of health with the specter of degeneration if not complied with... the idea that there are things that are sensorily pleasant and that you find yourself craving, and there are things that sustain you, and those are not the same things. the framing of literacy as reading the correct way and taking away the correct meaning from a text. according to nutritional guidelines

I saw some criticism of TLG where the sentiment was that it's bad because Shane "thinks he deserves it for not being careful enough" and I really, really wonder if people are reading a different text than I am

Shane gets pissed off. He initially gets pissed at Hayden, and then has to back off that ledge because he decides Hayden's friendship is worth keeping. He gets pissed at his teammates for being assholes, and at Crowell for trying to get them to pretend it was fake. He gets so mad he leaves his team and decides to publicly announce his marriage before signing a new contract, to ensure his new workplace will be accepting. He never once blames himself for what's happened.

Additionally Shane never apologizes, not even once, for being in love with Ilya. He apologizes to exactly one (1) person post outing and it's JJ, for not telling him and for lying to him.

(This is a pretty big character evolution from HR, where Shane apologizes to his parents three times in a single page after their outing.)
