As much as I love my TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms), the irony is that TLA isn't an acronym. It's an initialism. An acronym is pronounced as a word, an initialism is pronounced as individual letters.

When I worked in retail, the software was called POS (point of sales), which always made me laugh since a POS (piece of shit) was a far more apt description of the software we were using.

Now that I’m in healthcare, I deal with POSs (Physicians Order Sheet). And I must say, the initialism still hits.
