how did you decide on the bleeding smiley face as the symbol? what were the other options? words? shapes?

What do most people do when they get punched in the face (i.e. injured, deceived, betrayed, etc)?

They run away, they coward, they hide...And usually have a frowny face, right?

Not us. We smile.

Facing your fears and embracing them leads you to the truth. Your truth.

When someone's house (or etc.) is marked with that symbol, it symbolizes that they have faced their fears— like being killed by a mob of clowns, for example.

I don't remember if I had other ideas. I came up with the first and final draft while I was flying a bit too high on substances and I don't remember much else from that night. I woke up to piles and piles of smiley faces drawn everywhere.
