SamBucky Secret Santa 2021

Good morning/afternoon/evening, Winterfalconers of all shapes and timezones! Today we are delighted to bring you our official SamBucky Secret Santa. This holiday season, we're going to be celebrating our favourite superhero boys the best way we know how: through a gift exchange!

The rules are simple:

Everyone who signs up gets a gift, and writes a gift. Please keep in mind that this is an exchange, so if you want to get a cool Sambucky present, you have to make someone else a cool Sambucky present too.

Since this is a Sambucky exchange, the main focus of your fic has to be on the Marvel Cinematic Universe relationship between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. Background relationships are allowed, but the chief focus should always stay Sambucky.

This is primarily a fanfiction challenge, but other fanworks (art, gifsets, videos etc.) are more than welcome in addition to a gift fic! We do expect everyone to write a fic with a minimum of 1000 words, though, regardless of any additional fanworks you might be inspired to create.

Sign-ups are open as of now, and will remain open until the end of the month. On the 1st of December, giftee names will be drawn.

Once you have your giftee, keep it secret! Don't tell anyone who you have, especially not your giftee (obviously.) Each giftee will send in two different prompts, and it's up to you which one you write. Or you can go for a creative combination of the two - your choice!

When prompting, please make sure that you send in two completely different prompts, so that your gift writer has options. Prompts can be anything you want, and a few common examples include: AU ideas (for example, coffee shop AU), dialogue prompts (for example, “Shut up!" // "Make me.”), common tropes (for example, enemies to lovers), and songs (for example, Take Me To Church by Hozier). But really, anything you can think of is good!

You are allowed to give explicit/smutty prompts, but only one per person, please! We recognise that not everyone is comfortable writing explicit material, and we want to make sure there's always another option available. Our priority is making this experience safe and fun for all.

Gifts are to be posted on the 24th of December, by no later than 23:59:59 in your timezone. We will be checking that all gifts have been posted by 10:00 AM GMT on the 25th.

If you feel that you need to drop out at any point, please let us know ASAP either through an ask or a direct message to this blog. The sooner you let us know, the sooner we can arrange a pinch hitter for your giftee. The last thing we want here is for someone to be Sambucky-less on the 24th.

Name drawing and posting instructions will be clarified on the 1st of December. We'll also release invite links to the exchange's Discord server on that date. Until then - please spread the word to all your fellow Winterfalconers so we can make this holiday season full of proper Sambucky cheer!

This time I went with my LoZ BOTW AU for them. Rito!Sam is either injured or dead tired so Hylian!Bucky is carrying him to safety. I can never decide whether to keep Bucky clean shaven like Link or let him have facial hair like he’s got in TFATWS.

So we mods had a... slight... miscommunication over who would be putting up the final post and covering late submissions, and with the school year starting up again, things got very crazy very fast for all of us. But we have since resolved those snags, and we're here to give you, Winterfalconers - all of you - a TREMENDOUS thank you!

You guys made this challenge something spectacular - you blew us away with the incredible content you created for each prompt! We couldn't be prouder of the way the first WinterFalcon Week turned out. And to everyone who reblogged, commented and supported - you are just as amazing! Without you, this challenge wouldn't have been nearly as fun. So thank you very, very much, too!

Bucky is still annoyed that Sam keeps sending him fanfiction where Bucky is pining over Sam in a thoroughly pathetic way, so he decides to write one where Sam is pining over him instead.

When Sam Wilson woke up one Saturday morning, he knew that there were two things missing.

One of them was his devilishly attractive partner with blue eyes that Sam wanted to do canonballs into. Bucky Barnes was in Brooklyn, which Sam didn't think was a very good place for him compared to some of the alternatives. Mostly wherever Sam was was the place he felt that Bucky should be, but Bucky was inconvenient and didn't always cooperate.

Sam would have liked to get annoyed at him, but every time he started to, he would pick up his phone and see Bucky's smiling face on his lock screen, and then he either forget why he was annoyed or forget that he was annoyed at all.

In person, of course, Sam couldn't stay mad at Bucky. He'd given up even trying, because when he did, he just ended up itching to run his fingers through Bucky's hair and offer him a back massage. Sometimes he couldn't resist offering it. He wasn't sure whether it was better or worse that Bucky always agreed immediately.

On one hand, it got Sam's hopes up that maybe one day, they could be more, which could be frustrating. On the other hand, he liked feeling his supersoldier's broad and muscled shoulders under his hands and watching Bucky's vibranium arm twitch as Sam found all the pressure points to make him groan in very attractive ways.

It all made Sam want to lean down and brush his lips across Bucky's neck, to see if that would make him react more.

These days were really trying his self-control, because when Bucky was visiting him, he always slept in Sam's bed. So exactly where Sam wanted him, just not necessarily doing all the things Sam wanted him to be doing.

He was doing most of those things, because he was like catnip to Sam without even trying, but not all of them.

The other thing that was missing for Sam was a kitten, which sucked because kittens were cute enough to distract him even from Bucky Barnes.

summary: It’s starts with a candy manufacturer stumbling upon a strange device buried in a dessert. It ends with a fall. Everything inbetween, before, adjacent, and after is a lot more complicated than it seems.

“Uh.” Sam frowns, connects the battery to some wires, and then frowns harder. “Not what?”

Bucky tilts his head to the side a fraction, gaze moving to Sam’s face in a way that strikes Sam as somehow odder than his usual ones. “Wrong.”

Sam’s frown deepens. It doesn’t feel like it reflects his confusion on why that is the detail Bucky decided to latch onto, and the only thing he responded to, but if he frowns any harder he’ll give himself a headache. Well, a worse one.

…huh. When did the headache start?

Sam pushes that thought away for now, burying it along with all the other ‘get to later’ thoughts somewhere in the back of his throbbing head to focus. He’s faintly aware of the wind starting to beat harshly against the outside of the rock formation, the subtle shift in the air that indicates the start of a sandstorm, and the sun being clouded over briefly seven separate times.

She has them play Brad and Chad, influencers looking the buy the perfect accessory: a baby.

Summary:

Summary:

In fairness, if Bucky hadn’t literally pinned him down with his body, Sam would have tried something risky to save the day. And Bucky does seem to have the situation under control.

The problem is, being pinned like this means Sam feels every snap of recoil from that sniper rifle -- through Bucky.

Summary:

When Bucky agreed to be Sam’s “boyfriend” for a night, he could definitely imagine waking up next to him the next morning -- but he wasn’t expecting to get to do it for years to come. It just didn’t happen very often in his line of work.

From the moment Sam laid eyes on Bucky on their fake date, he knew it needed to become a real one. After all, how often did he meet someone so compatible in his line of work?

My Sunshine

Gift giving

If not for the fact that it was scrawled in Bucky’s careful, slanting handwriting, Sam might’ve thought the note was provided by the flower company because the bouquet was sunflowers.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey.

And then he thought it was a joke because there was no way Bucky actually meant to include that song with his flowers. Hell, Sam kind of thought the whole thing was a joke. Bucky wasn’t even in Louisiana for Sam’s birthday, which was a pretty good indicator to Sam about where their relationship was, serious emotions wise.

Sam still trimmed leaves off and cut the stems carefully and found a vase with enough room for the whole bouquet and put it in the middle of his dining room table. Just because it was a joke didn’t mean he liked the flowers any less. And it didn’t keep his stomach from doing that swoopy thing like he was free falling every time he looked at them and thought about Bucky. He wondered if Bucky ordered them online or walked into a flower shop. The company was a New York company.

When he cleaned yellow petals off his table, he thought about Bucky staring intently at a barrel full of sunflowers, carefully picking which ones he wanted, which ones had the biggest heads, which were the brightest yellow, which would survive the truck ride down to Louisiana.

“You know,” Sam could picture Bucky saying, leaning on the front counter in that horribly charming way of his with that horribly charming grin, “sunflowers face the sun and when they can’t find the sun, they face each other.”

Sam thought about how he laughed the first time Bucky told him that, after he’d told Bucky sunflowers were his favorite flowers. He thought about the way Bucky hooked his fingers in Sam’s belt loops and pulled them chest to chest. “How about you and me go make a little bit of sunshine, Sunshine?”

“That doesn’t even make sense,” Sam had laughed but wrapped his arms around Bucky’s neck anyway.

Sarah made cupcakes and kept Sam out of the kitchen while AJ and Cass decorated them. The boys wrecked the kitchen while Sam and Sarah tore up the living room in their effort to get around each other. They stayed up all night watching the lighting bugs and Sam stayed outside long after Sarah had ordered the boys to bed. Instead of staring off into the ocean, though, he shifted to look vaguely northeast, towards New York and all the lights he couldn’t see.

As if with a spooky super soldier sixth sense, Sam’s phone blared out the trumpet fanfare from The Star Spangled Man With A Plan.

>>> The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms. When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken. So I hung my head and I cried.

They lay together in their bed, huddled in each other’s arms like always. It was beginning to grow cold again outside, but it was so warm under the covers. The wind outside was howling. The rain was tapping on their window.

Bucky shivered and pulled Sam closer underneath the blankets, burying his face into the back of Sam’s neck. Then he pressed a kiss to it.

Sam reached back and patted Bucky’s thigh, twice, before trying to go back to sleep.

“Your hands are cold.” Bucky mumbled, sleepily. “Turn around.”

Sam turned around and Bucky slid Sam’s hands underneath his shirt. Sam felt the ridge of the familiar scar underneath his fingers. It was rough and warm under his fingertips.

Everybody Talks, Babe

“Was everything always so small in schools?” Bucky asked, spinning the world’s smallest desk chair on one of its legs.

“I can’t tell you what schools were like back in the stone age. I assume everything seemed larger because you had to lug stone tablets around for your arithmetic or whatever.”

Bucky rolled his eyes. “The only thing I actually remember from school was giving a girl a chocolate bar for Valentine’s one year and having to pull Steve out from under the bleachers every time he wanted to start a fight.”

“God, it’s a miracle you know how to read.”

“I’ll have you know, all the history books say I was a great student,” Bucky answered. He let the chair fall back into place against the wall.

“Yeah, well, be nice to the dead and all.”

“You’re terrible to me. I don’t know why I put up with it.”

“Because you think I’m terribly handsome.”

Bucky snorted and shot an ‘I-doubt-it’ look at Sam. When the office door opened, Bucky stepped in front of Sam and kneeled down so AJ, who’d launched himself through the door, had no chance of choosing which one of them to run to. He crashed into Bucky’s arms and Bucky pulled him close as he stood.

“Hey there, champ. You ready to go lie to all your friends about how cool your uncle is?” he asked.

AJ laughed. “Uncle Sam is cool!” he insisted. “Everyone wants to see you. Did you bring it?”

Sam held up the leather bag that housed the shield. “Yeah, of course I brought it. You only reminded me a hundred times.”

“And your arm?” AJ asked Bucky.

“Wearing a short sleeve just like you asked,” Bucky confirmed.

“Sweet,” he said so solemnly that Sam and Bucky burst out laughing at the same time.

“Y’all are just too cute,” the secretary said as she hurried out of an office and gestured for them to step together. “Let me get a picture of the three of you.”

“Is it gonna go in the yearbook?” AJ asked.

“I’m sure we can make that happen,” the secretary assured.

AJ celebrated quietly. “I never get in the yearbook.”

Sam stepped to Bucky’s other side and slung an arm over his shoulders to pull on AJ’s ear until he laughed again.

“Oh, Mr. Wilson, why don’t you step to your partner’s other side, so AJ is between y’all.”

Take a Shot On Me

Like most things in their life, Sam and Bucky had not sought this out.

What they’d sought out was a quiet night over drinks and maybe some nachos.

What they got was a trivia game dedicated to them.

You see, the bartender explained, it was trivia night but no one had showed up to play. So if they wanted, they could face off against each other, mano a mano. Loser had to take a shot for every missed question. Theme being pop culture.

“Oh hell yeah,” Sam crowed. “That’s the easiest W I’ve ever been put up against.”

Bucky hadn’t said anything, just reached for a blue vodka and set it on the bar between them. “Hit us,” he said with a nod.

That should’ve been Sam’s first clue to the progression of the night, but he wasn’t paying that much attention. The bartender poured them each a shot and then pulled a stack of cards out from under the bar.

“Alright, first question: This band’s debut album in April of 1964 was eponymous.”

“The Rolling Stones,” Bucky said before Sam could even figure out who was around in the 60s.

“Correct,” the bartender confirmed. He looked at Sam expectantly. Sam laughed and tossed back the shot.

“Shit, you’ve got the girliest taste out there, Barnes,” he said, scrunching up his nose. “Tastes like I chewed on Malibu Barbie.”

“Yeah, well, when it takes a swimming pool to get you drunk, you start looking for things that taste good,” Bucky said.

“The 2017 movie Call Me By Your Name is based on a 2007 book with the same title. Who wrote the novel?”

“Andre Aciman,” Bucky said.

“Why do you know that?” Sam asked, taking his shot when the bartender refilled the glass.

“I read it when I was trying to put my brain back in order. It was in one of the airports I stopped in.”

“What was the first video played on MTV?” the bartender asked.

Bucky looked at Sam. “Come on, this is your prime,” he said.

“Shut up, I’m thinking. And also I was three.”

Bucky tapped the bar. “Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. And I know that because it’s objectively the funniest choice to kick off your Music Television channel.”

Summary:

Sam has his shirt off because it’s goddamn hot; Bucky is in a t-shirt, arm seams gleaming in the sun. Sam’s used to them enough that their shine doesn’t snag his attention, break his concentration, too much. The same cannot be said for Bucky where Sam’s shirtlessness is concerned. He cannot shop glancing over, sometimes openly staring — nothing new there, except his eyes aren’t on Sam’s face.

Sam does know what’s going on: Bucky has a thing for Sam’s chest. He’s kind of… obsessed with seems too strong to use and makes Sam feel more than a little big-headed, vain, but it really is the most accurate term he can think of. Seven ways Sam and Bucky express their love for one another:

Sam lay down on his couch and tried to fall asleep.

And then there was a sound, of James softly humming. And a smell of frying pancake batter. Sam opened his eyes and stared out into the living room. Because all of a sudden, the whole place felt more alive.

“Hey.” James said, kneeling next to Sam. “There’s pancakes if you want them.”

Sam sat up slowly, and took James’ hand as he went to move back.

Sam looked into those steel blue eyes.

And then he kissed him.
