Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.

Fics are not social media posts. There’s no “stalking” someone’s “old posts”. They’re meant to be found and enjoyed years down the line. No need to be nervous.

I reblog this message every time it comes across my dash because it’s true. And also: 

When I first started writing fanfic, back in the mid 1990s (yes! the late twentieth century!) one of the discouraging things about it was that people treated fanfic as if it was disposable. It seemed like what most readers wanted was a constant stream of new content, whereas I tend to produce one big work every 6-12 months. It made me sad that people seemed to think there was no point to re-reading or saving old fic. There is no sell-by date on fiction! It does not get out of order! It can still work even years or decades later! 

So yeah, I have stories up at ao3 that are literally a quarter-century old, and every time someone leaves a comment on them I am very pleased to get it. We get attached to our stories and it cheers us up to see that they are still finding readers. It means that they are still ‘alive,’ in some way.

You’re meant to engage with any and all of it, regardless of age.

My uncle was one of the top surgeons in the country. He was upper middle class definitely. When he got cancer, his insurance didn’t cover all the treatments he would need and after 5 years he drained his savings on cancer treatments (while still working most of that time) and eventually died because he couldn’t afford the expensive treatments that might have saved him.

If you are upper middle class and you get sick, it will likely bankrupt your family. It’s fucked.

A 6 figure income is a lot right? That’s say: 223,000 dollars a year Which is 112 dollars an hour. Most people would consider that upper middle class. That’s enough money to have a nice house, go on fun vacations. That’s slight more than the average doctor makes.

There was a wonderful study done about 15 years ago I think, that shows that people cannot accurately identify their income bracket. Most people who own a home think they are upper middle class when in fact they are closer to the poverty line. Even people living well below poverty often identify as middle class. The wealth gap is even worse now. I wonder if anyone actually knows their financial standing.

More random riordanverse headcanons I have because you guys liked the first one??

Percy doesn’t know how to tie a tie properly and at first Sally helped him but then it transitioned to Annabeth helping him (she knows how since she went to private schooling)

Hazel likes adopting stray cats

Grover likes using his reed pipes to make plants (primarily flowers) grow so that he can give them to Juniper

Nico likes painting his nails but he always gets annoyed by how quickly they get chipped

Percy and Thalia like to talk about music a lot bc they have similar music taste and sometimes Nico joins in

Speaking of, once the campers at CHB found out Nico didn’t know any modern music, they all bombarded him with it (his favorite is MCR bc ofc it is)

Back to Percy and Thalia, the two mainly argue about genres because Percy is more into classic rock and Thalia is into punk

The two will also get into very heated arguments about music and not speak to each other for a while before they eventually forget why they were fighting in the first place

Travis and Katie are a couple (this still isn’t canon for some reason?)

Speaking of, Katie and the majority of the Demeter cabin definitely grow weed and the reason she gets so pissed at the Stoll brothers is because they keep almost busting her by accident

Annabeth and Piper introduced Taylor Swift to Hazel and now she’s obsessed with it and the three of them have Taylor Swift singalongs, sometimes joined by Percy and Frank

Piper loves Paramore

Jason often loses his glasses (Leo loves to hide them as well)

Rachel refuses to get a driver’s license

Leo pretends to like coffee but he always has to drink it with lots of sugar to even tolerate the taste

Rating Riordanverse Books I’ve Read

The Lightning Thief: 10/10. Wholesome, love the original trio especially Grover. Baby Percabeth is adorable. Ultimate nostalgia.

The Sea of Monsters: 8/10. Grover was missing for a lot but the wedding dress scene was iconic. Percy and Annabeth whining about Tyson kinda annoys me, so it gets a point off there. Also amazing plot twist ending

The Titan’s Curse: 9/10. Annabeth is missing throughout most of it, that’s why it loses a point. But Percy and Thalia throughout the book? Iconic. Also Bianca, Zoe, Grover, etc. were all so iconic I love them.

The Battle of The Labyrinth: 10/10. Percy crashing his own funeral? Hilarious. The Percabeth kiss? Iconic.

The Last Olympian: 9/10. Percabeth 😩 one point off for the deaths and emotional damage 10 year old me got from reading it for the first time

Also a little warning here, I do not remember the majority of the heroes of Olympus books bc I don’t reread them that often so excuse that and take these ratings with a grain of salt

The Lost Hero: 6/10. I miss Percy and Annabeth (she’s not in it enough). I didn’t really know who any of the characters were, so I was confused at first. But it didn’t suck I guess?? Good plot twist at the end.

The Son of Neptune: also 6/10 for similar reasons. I missed Annabeth and was also very confused bc I didn’t know any of the characters. But I love the fact Percy didn’t forget about Annabeth, that was iconic. Also Frank and Hazel were cute.

The Mark of Athena: 5/10. Athena is an annoying little bitch in this one. The Percy and Jason fight was unnecessary. Same with Annabeth’s solo quest along with Percy and Annabeth falling into Tartarus at the end. But their little date before Annabeth went on her quest was cute, so I’ll give it that.

The House of Hades: 5/10. This book gave me emotional damage. I was so invested in Percabeth that I was tempted to skip other character’s pov’s. But I also love the fact they were in Tartarus bc I thrive on chaos. Also bob and his cat was cute, but bob’s death emotionally wrecked preteen me.

The Blood of Olympus: 5/10. This gets an extra point simply bc Percy’s nosebleed was iconic. But it could not live up to the last Olympian, and the whole camp Jupiter attacking camp half blood plot was stupid. But I liked the Nico, reyna, and coach hedge traveling that was fun.

Anyways sorry that this was so long. Maybe I’ll do the other series in another post.
