For @mortimerlatrice who wanted to know how exactly I do what I do when it comes to my digital art. Of course, for anyone else who is interested as well!

This is just a very, very quick and basic run-through of what I do. Most times I will end up playing around with several other brushes and settings (multiply, burn, addition are a few I use often). I know there are other ways to get the desired affects here using layers upon layers and filters within those layers etc. but I prefer to work with as few layers as possible. Traditional art is my base and best skill, and logically I know bringing that vibe into digital art is probably counterintuitive, but I, uh, don't care lol. Also, depending on what program you're using it might be easier to get certain effects. (I use a free program called Krita which is essentially photoshop with a few less abilities but I used to use photoshop and I actually prefer krita for drawing).

I did forget to add the hair bit, but it's essentially the same. Base colors, highlights and lowlights, smudge tool, and then just build on top of that with the desired brush etc.

I’m sure a ton of people already know how to do this, but I only learned recently, so I wanted to share one of my favorite thumbnailing tricks! Color matching is SUPER helpful to quickly map out potential color schemes :D

Honestly, I think I still have a lot to learn. But more importantly, here's a more coherent compilation of notes I did:

A lot of it for me is figuring out how to understand how it bends and twists in a 3D space.

Flow is very very important to really get that sense of movement too, so it's very helpful to get that sense of muscle memory with the curves and edges.

and my final words are go check out @/ciearcab on twitter. the way they draw wings all contorted and with beautiful understanding of depth is my dream...

how to hit your guys with the crust rays

a friend of mine was having trouble with a character of hers, he was middle-aged but looked too young, so she came to me for help. i'm something of a middle-aged-man-fan so i whipped up this quick thing to help her out. it might be useful to somebody out there so i'll share it here too!

so initially when I received this ask I assumed they were asking about how to color lines until I reread it and realized they were talking about coloring in the drawing itself, but I had already made a little guide of the first thing so I might as well share it lol

hopefully these are self-explanatory but I can elaborate if it's confusing. I used CSP for this but these methods work in nearly every drawing program
