The marbled reed frog [also known as the painted reed frog, Hyperolius marmoratus] is a species found in southeastern Africa. Like many reed frogs, these frogs inhabit a wide range of different environments, from savannah and grassland to gardens and pastureland. Images by Dr. Peter Janzen.

today’s funky frog of the day is: calluella capsa! although there are currently no widespread common names, some herpetologists have suggested the bornean chili frog or chili pepper frog. they are mid-sized frogs, around 1.4 inches in length, and they have rounded bodies, short snouts, small eyes, and wide heads. only 2 specimens of this frog have ever been found, both adult males. they are red with darker patches and spots. nothing else is known of these extremely rare frogs.
