i wonder if zelda was aware that hilda was staring at her portrait for who knows how long. glaring with animosity, with envy, with frustration, and with pain. how would she feel to be looked at with such hatred for the first time?

and if hilda saw zelda look at her portrait, would she be appalled by the gentleness in zeldas eyes, that reverent gaze? a look of admiration that no ones given her before…or would it intrigue her, draw her in?

Obviously I can't expect everyone to care about the Zeldas when Link is typically the protagonist of the majority of the Zelda titles, in which the princess isn't even granted much screentime/personality beyond her role as royalty-

At the same time I think it isn't too difficult to characterize a Zelda for yourself if you really try and think about what a girl in her situation would be like. How should her personality be, so she and Link can have an interesting dynamic that intrigues you? What would that Zelda, in that Era, in her current role and situation have to be like for her to appeal to you? What type of world surrounds her and how does she affect it as she tends to stand in the middle of it? How does it affect her?

Not only is thinking about it fun, but I think there's a lot to gain...
