Weird sharks throughout time!
A friend commissioned me to make her a phone case with some weird prehistoric and currently alive sharks on it. It was a fun project to draw all these weirdos!
If you want some products with the pattern you can check out my redbubble shop :)
Been drawing fishies in a little black paper sketchbook :]
It's Batariel, the angelic coelacanth puppet. They are very shiny.
My final for the first year of my fashion and textile course :] fossils cardigan featuring living fossils like coelacanth and lots of dinosaur bones. Big love letter to palaeontology and natural history. Got super into my knitting machine but I wasn’t very adept with it yet so I sort of crocheted around the edges of my pieces and sewed them all together, and crocheted some edges/ribbing. The buttons are handmade from polymer clay. Used some second hand gold yarn I found in a charity shop and a whole bunch of mixed variegated wool together. My most ambitious project yet I completely just did not speak to people for that final month I was working on this 😭
Some close ups:
And my watercolour paintings this piece was based on:
Adding on to this post to try and show even more progress/development for this bc I got tons of feedback on this post and lots of questions about it so I thought I'd try and give a lil more info :]
So fun fact this started as a patchwork skirt project because I really liked hand dying fabric and wax batik we did in a previous project and my theme for that was fish here's the final pieces for that. It was my first time doing this so I was pretty proud of how it turned out, first four are on fabric, the others are on paper done with batik wax and dyes and a paint brush.
I enjoyed this and patchwork so I wanted to combine that into a tiered skirt i still kind of want to make. Here's the early concept and another where I was playing around with my watercolours:
Anyway due to health and safety reasons the batik equipment is something we don't use unsupervised and I ended up making my knit piece mostly at home bc my chronic illness was acting up really bad. I didn't have the equipment to do batik from home, but there is a method you can do using PVA glue and watered down fabric paint I used and I did get to make a sample of what I sort of wanted my patchwork to look like :]
And obviously the watercolours were actually practice for this, i just taped them to my desk and used two different sizes of 'drawing gum' pens or masking fluid as a resist and slapped any colour palette I wanted down with my watercolours. Nothing super fancy used here.
Transferred this into a pixel art/grid design for knitting and used my lk150 knitting machine and intarsia carriage with some multicoloured wool. Not sharing patterns or grids for now, I might consider it later but tbh with you I'm more fashion leaning and want to gen go into the industry but hey if that doesn't work out for me I'll just put of crazy knitting patterns like this ig LOL
bc this was literally my first ever time using a flatbed knitting machine I wasn't used to it and didn't want to attempt doing the whole design all in one go SO... I did each piece of the patchwork design individually with single crochet around the edges to sew them together like you would granny squares. Had a really interesting effect, basically I just patchworked my knitting. The sleeves are just regular knit with stripes all one big rectangle.
Here's a drawing from my sketchbook in acrylic marker
Here's the cardigan no ends woven in and assembled flat before being sewn up the sides and edges/buttons added. Ngl inside is mostly unwoven floats and just barely hiding those
And here's me wearing it with one of the shirts I made last project (photo taken in my dad's slightly messy room cus he's the only one with a big mirror lol) its a baggy comfy fit, made for my broad shoulders, looks best with one button buttoned at the top and you can tell it's handmade and,,,, and,,, experimental but I love it sm. I was insane for deciding on a knit piece when we were going into summer I can't wear this until Autumn LMAO
(he/him pronouns for me ty)
Lumpsuckers, gouache and markers.
i got inspired by antique furniture -> decided to try and make a wooden doll.
she is whittled entirely out of balsa wood with a craft knife, and colored with wood dye. the cabinet has miniature hinges made of tube beads and a metal rod, and closes with a magnet. she absolutely should hold a sentimental & important object, but i don't have any that are the correct size, so i just put in some cute trinkets.
This whimsical creature is a Bunny Fish. I’m so happy how this turned out!!! I tried out a new style, normally I draw line art.
