Find Your Path Spell

Not sure where you are going in life? Join the club. If you want a little magickal guidance to point the way, this is the white spell for you. You will need:

A paper map

3 push pins or thumb tacks

Thick black marker

One silver coin

One white candle

The map can be a real paper one, or just a printout and it doesn't really matter what the region is. It's just a symbolic element to the spell.

Lay the map out on a flat surface, but with something (like thick cardboard or even a kitchen cutting board) that can take a push pin. Push in 3 tacks to make a big triangle, though it doesn't need to be geometrically perfect. Use the marker to draw lines between each of the tacks.

Set the coin in the center of the triangle. And repeat the words of the spell:

Which way to go, I need to know. Point the way, At the end of the day.

Set the candle on the table above the map to the north and light it. Repeat the same words again. Leave the candle to burn out on its own.

When you are done, take everything apart and fold up the map. Place it under your pillow that night, and you should start to have dreams that provide you with some direction.

Heart of the Matter Spell

The Heart of the Matter Spell

This simple spell will put the seed of attraction into someone's heart (so to speak) and get them to notice you. You'll need:

A live pink carnation flower in full bloom

A small piece of rose quartz

A small slip of pink paper

A pen or pencil

Place the flower in a vase of water (you want it to live as long as possible for this attraction spell). Write the name of the person you want to attract on the little slip of paper and fold it up tightly. Tuck both the paper and the piece of rose quartz into the middle petals of the flower. Repeat the following:

Set this thought in his (or her) mind Set this thought in his (or her) heart Set this thought in his (or her) life So that we will never part

Focus on that person and feel them being drawn to you. Leave the flower with its contents in a vase of water and let it stay until the blossom completely droops. Bury the flower, and save the paper and stone on your altar to continue the effect of the spell.

Luck of the Draw Job Spell

Ok, the title kind of implies cards but this spell actually relies on the luck in a roll of dice. Or more specifically, loading the dice in your favor when you're up for a new job. This isn't for finding a new employment opening. You cast this spell to shift the chances in your favor after you've already applied. Your supplies are just:

A pair of dice (wood is best, plastic will do)

2 green candles

2 pieces of bloodstone

Roll the dice, then light the candles. Repeat the words of the spell:

The luck of the draw, is not the law

Then turn both dice so that 6s are facing upward. Set a piece of bloodstone on each one. Continue the spell:

By the spell I've done, I'll be the one I've changed the roll, I'm in control.

Slide the dice closer to each other so they touch, without moving the bloodstone pieces. Leaning over both dice, loudly say the title or name of the job you are seeking.

Leave the candles to burn down on their own. When they are both out, turn the dice so that they both have 3s facing up, and replace the bloodstones. Leave them this way on your altar until you hear back about the job.

Should You Join a Coven

Ya, I’m still here....  :)

This isn't about how to find a coven, or how to start one. Just simply some things to think about if you are considering joining one. Some traditionalists say that you must be initiated into a coven in order to call yourself "Wiccan", but I prefer to take a less-formal approach and let each person decide for themselves.

Good Reasons to Join

You're interested in a tradition such as Gardnerian or Alexandrian. The beliefs and rituals of both these traditions are passed down from one coven to the next and typically not shared with outsiders. In order to truly understand what they are all about, you must be properly initiated.

You're looking to expand your horizons. There is certainly nothing wrong with doing ritual on your own, but it is a whole new experience doing ritual in a group. Being in a coven can teach you a lot about your own spirituality.

You need some structure. Face it, some people just don't get anything done unless there is some external motivation. Being in a group can help you keep your studies and spiritual growth on track.

You just like being part of a group. Group rituals raise more energy, and it can be lonely as a solitary.

Poor Reasons to Join

You feel you have to. Though some traditions to require coven membership, you can happily follow a Wiccan path without belonging to any group.

You want to have fun. Well, covens most certainly have fun together, and some covens are less formal than others; but it is a serious commitment to join a group and you should take it seriously. If you just want a social experience, I suggest finding a moot in your area instead.  

You're only interested in scholarly study. Study and learning are a big part of coven life, but there is an emotional component as well. As time passes, most coven members grow together like a family. If you do not want that kind of bond, you may be better off finding just a study group or take some classes.

Please note these are not hard and fast rules by any means. Just some things to think about.

If you decide that joining a coven is right for you, make sure to do some research! Talk to people, ask lots of questions and go with your gut. If something seems 'off' about a group of people, then keep looking.

Your First Spell

Choosing your first spell when you've decided to try practicing witchcraft can be tough. A lot of people tend to get into spell casting because of some specific need in the first place, which already sets them up for that first spell. But jumping into something that is urgent in your life may not be the best way to cast your first spell.

Obviously, everyone is different but I always suggest something small and non-life-changing for their first attempt as spell casting. And considering this is a page in the kids & teen section, I'm presuming this is about the first spell for someone young.

So my suggestion for someone's first spell is a lunar blessing spell to cleanse and consecrate their tools. It can be a good place to practice the concentration and focus of ritual without putting too big a burden on you for "success".

Simple Lunar Blessing Spell

This spell should be done on the night of the full moon. If you don't really have any spell-working tools to bless, you can always use this spell to add a blessing to a piece of jewelry or even clothing. You'll need:

The item to bless

A piece of moonstone

Rainwater (or pure distilled water)

A white feather

On the night of the full moon, set a dish of water on the windowsill or outside so that the light of the moon falls on it. Let it sit for about an hour, soaking up the energy of the moon. Then take the bowl to your altar where you other materials are waiting.

Drop the moonstone in the water and repeat:

I bless this water by the light of the moon, Make it pure, make it clean, make it blessed.

Then dip the tip of the feather into the water, and tap it to knock off any excess. Shake it lightly over the item to be blessed to that a light sprinkle of water falls on it. Say:

I bless this [item] by the light of the moon, Make it pure, make it clean, make it blessed.

Leave your item on the altar for the rest of the night with the feather and the bowl of water. In the morning, pour the water out into the ground and bury the feather. Your item is now blessed and purified.

One note: because of the water in this spell, I don't recommend you use it to bless anything that might be damaged by moisture (like a book or Tarot cards).

Bounce Back Sigil

The most potent way to work a pay back spell is to literally return someone's negative actions or energy back at them. So use a mirror to have your revenge.

A small mirror

Black paint or marker

Piece of black cloth

You need to design your own revenge sigil (magickal sign) for this spell, so I can't just give you one. The idea is that you write a short phrase or even a single word, the combine the letters to create a single design. Typically, you leave out the vowels, so focus on the consonants.

So to return energy back to someone, you could use "RETURN" and design a shape with RTRN in it. Maybe like this:

Ok, I guess I am giving you one. This would work if you really can't do your own, but the spell will be a lot more powerful if you create a more specific and personalized sigil.Cast your spell at midnight, drawing the sigil in the middle of the mirror in bold strokes. 

Set the mirror up in a window, facing outward. Leave it there for 3 days, then take it down at midnight again. Wrap it up with cloth and leave it on your altar until you feel your pay back is complete.

Bind a Black Box

Create a magickal barrier around you to banish all the negative, and bring some protection into your personal life.

A small black box

Black or dark purple tissue paper

A small personal token that fits in the box

Sea salt

Length of coarse twine

Shard of broken glass

The box should be black, but it's better if you can paint it yourself though using one that is black to begin with is fine too. Small cardboard jewlery boxes work very well for this spell.

Sprinkle some salt in the bottom of the box, then fill it in with some tissue paper. You can use cloth if you don't have tissue. It has to be black or dark though. Set your token in the center and say the words of the spell.

Inside this box, I place my locks To banish all my ill.

Protect my life, Keep out strife, By the power of my will.

Put the lid on the box, and set the piece of glass on the lid. Wrap the whole thing several times with twine, enough to hold the shard in place. Tie with a solid knot. Repeat the words again.

Set the box near the door of your home, glass piece down. After 7 days, find a more permanent home for it, someplace dark and undisturbed.

Love in Luna

Most crystal love spells use rose quartz, but there are other options in love magick. This is a favorite spell that uses moonstone instead, and harnesses the potent power of the moon. You'll need:

3 pieces of moonstone

3 pieces of silver cord

1 pink taper candle

Moon infused water (see below)

During the full moon before you cast this spell, leave a glass bottle with some water outside where it can absorb the moon light. After that, you'll need to do the spell within a few days, using this water.

Lay out the 3 pieces of cord to make a triangle, and place a moonstone at each point. Anoint the candle with the moon water, repeating the words of the spell as you do:

Bringing down the light of moon Bringing love to me soon Light a candle for my cause Love is what this spell draws.

Set up the candle in the center of the triangle and light it. Repeat the words again. Now pick up one moonstone at a time, hold it above the flame, and repeat the words with each stone.

Let the candle burn out. Carry all 3 moonstones with you until someone new comes into your life for love.

Samhain Ritual

This Samhain ritual isn't a true "spell", as it doesn't accomplish anything for you. It's simply a spiritual ritual you can perform this Samhain (or Halloween) to honor the day.

To celebrate the symbolic harvest, as well as to welcome the darker half of the year, this is a fine Samhain ritual that is designed for people who work solitary.

For this ritual, you should gather up:

A bowl of pure water

1 gold candle to represent the God

1 silver candle to represent the Goddess

1 black candle

A wooden bowl

A slice of bread

A cup of apple cider or juice

According to the mythic view of the year, the God dies at Samhain and the Goddess mourns his death. It is her sadness that brings about the winter to come. He'll be reborn again at Yule though, so Her sadness is temporary.

Though you can do this ritual anytime during the Samhain season, doing it as close to October 31st as you can is best.

If you prefer to cast a circle before you start, do that first. then begin the actual ritual itself.

Light the gold and silver candles, and say:

"Lady, may your love and abundance shine through your loss, Lord, your light is not extinguished forever."

Then pick up the piece of bread, and say:

"I offer this food, as a symbol of the harvest and the abundance the Earth has provided this year."

Take a bite, then hold up the cider and repeat the same lines again.

Light the black candle and set it between the bowl of water and the wooden bowl, and say:

"I provide this light to guide the souls of those who walk the Earth tonight, to bring them hope and guidance in their journey."

At this point, ask for any blessings you might need for the upcoming year, preferably for your loved ones rather than yourself. Also, take some time to remember anyone how has recently passed on, or even distant ancestors that you wish to honor.

Set the rest of the bread into the wooden bowl, and pour your juice or cider over it. Close off the ritual by saying:

As the wheel of the year turns, As this candle and spirit burns, I honor those who have gone past, I honor the harvest, the season's last.

Leave the food offering out overnight, and allow the candles to burn down on their own.

Root of Feelings

Are you confused about a current situation in your life and need to sort out your emotions? This is the water spell for you.

A living potted plant

A large plate or dish to sit under the pot

A piece of pale blue paper

4 chunks of clear quartz

The pot for the plant must have holes in the bottom so that water can flow out once it's watered. The quartz pieces should be roughly the same size, and not tiny chips.

Write out the various emotions you're trying to figure out on the paper. Cut it into a circle to fit in the plate, even if the paper is smaller. It needs to be a circle. Set it in the dish, and then place the pieces of quartz in a square shape.

Here's the tricky part, set the pot on top of the stones as balanced as you can. Now think about all the various things you're feeling as you pour fresh water over the plant. You need to pour enough so that it flows through the roots of the plant, to soak the paper.

As the water drains through, say the words of the spell:

Water drain, water fall To the roots of the matter Water drain, water fall Let my confusion shatter

Hold a plant's leaf in both hands and repeat the words. Over the next 3 days, you'll feel your emotions clearing up and you'll have a solid feeling about where you stand.

5 pieces of jade or sodalite

A piece of yellow cloth

A long piece of white ribbon or yarn

Lay out the piece of cloth and think about your upcoming trip. Set out the pieces of stone in a straight line. With each one, stamp your foot and repeat:

Watch my steps, keep me straight Keep my travels free from hate

When all 5 are laid out, make a circle around them with the white ribbon to protect your path. Repeat the words again. Leave everything in place so your travel spell keeps working until you get home.

Spell To Contact a Deceased Loved One

A spell to feel the energy of and maybe even dream of a deceased loved one.

You will need the following items for this spell:

a picture of your loved one

a white candle

Cast a circle.

Light the candle and sit in a comfortable position. For as long as you see fit (usually 30-60 minutes), meditate on this loved one. Think of the fun times, the hard times, and remember them. Pay homage to their life and their accomplishments.

Hold the candle in your hands. Chant:

I feel the warmth of your body,  the warmth of your soul.  I hold you in my arms,  my heart, and soul.  Please join me, (insert name).

As you look at his/her/their picture, begin to feel the warmth of the candle envelop your hands. Feel the warmth climb up your arms, down your body, and cover your entire body. Sit, listen, and experience.

You will likely smell them, or feel their energy. It is also possible to hear them, see them, or dream of them. If there is something which you wish to tell them, do so now
