A charm for possible pertinent use during this time.
Tenets of the Gods
Baldr: The brightness of life. Let your presence be inspiring and beautiful to all. Allow your joy to radiate from within and become your aura. Bragi: Believe in the power of your words. Speak carefully with thought and precision. Let your praise empower and strengthen, and your insults dishearten and wither. Eir: Seek the cure. Help those in need, and offer comfort in whatever form you can. Reject the corruption of disease, any affliction can be treated and healed with the right approach. Fenrir: Destroy your chains and those who forge them. Never be cowed or submit in fear, reason should be met with respect but dominion with insurrection. Forseti: Deliver the beneficial compromise. Let peace be brokered and unnecessary conflict be evaded, good faith be honoured and deception be castigated. Freyja: Bask in your glory and empowerment. Let pleasure be a virtue, and self-determination be the basis of your strength. Revel in your emotions for they are your power. Freyr: Advance the endeavour of growth. Nurture life in all its forms and display the beauty of progeneration. Anything can take root and grow given the right conditions. Frigga: Provide and protect. Let all you care for be comfortable and safe, and no need be denied. The fire can warm but also burn. Heimdall: Vigilance and caution. A misstep may bring misery and an unheard word, disaster. The way forward is clear and danger is transparent, when the time is taken to identify it. Hela: Death is but the other half of life. Let stillness be, and quiet guide your thoughts. Endings should be neither sought nor feared, an end is but the opportunity for further beginnings. Idunn: Wisdom in youth. Let the words of babes ring with your consciousness and seek the truth held in their innocence, ignorance is found in the dismissal of the young. Loki: Freedom in fun and change. Do not be bound by norms and civility, evil is often disguised as order, and the fabricated as natural. The good thing is not always the common thing, deviation can lead to delight. Modi: Evolve and progress. Find no contentment in maintaining a status quo. Each day be better than yesterday, see the good of your forebear and strive to excel further. Seek, always, the betterment of your theory and actions. Njord: Ebb and flow, give and take. Action begets reaction, matter demands a void, for happiness there must be sadness, for gain there must be loss. Balance is a virtue, no one approach can suit every obstacle. Odin: Wise and learned. Always search for the opportunity to learn, wisdom is found in the diversity of life. Give your knowledge freely and be gracious in reception, a mind in isolation is a mind that does not grow. Sif: Be proud and know your worth. Demand your place and your right to exist in the world. Pay mind to fair criticism but reject detractors wholly. Take pride in yourself, and seek betterment for your own sake. Sigyn: Steadfast and devoted. Stand firmly for what you believe, keep loyal to that you love. Nothing worth doing is easy, no worthwhile thing is effortless. Love takes work, and ideals require labour. Skadhi: Justice through vengeance. Vileness be met with viciousness, the unforgivable can not be forgiven, though reason may temper rage. Covert, can be calamity, and war kept for a better day. Thor: Powerful protection. Vie for strength in soul and arm, to protect is to persevere against evil, contest not only in arms but in wills. To bring joy against misery, hope against despair, and a hammer against tyranny. Tyr: Honour and sacrifice. Victory is not always decisive, a small win leads to the larger success, a minor loss can avert the grander. Achievement can come in portion just as well as in entirety. Ullr: Mirth in contest. Appreciate fair competition and find joy in the fight, to train you must have a partner, to win - a rival. In loss be grateful for the challenger and in victory, for the challenge. norsegodcalls These are some personal interpretations of the kinds of values and virtues that the gods each have, written up as specific tenets.

Using local and abundant resins
Conifer resins are great for burning on their own or to add base and body to herbal incense blends. They are a great replacement for foreign resins like frankincense, myrrh, and benzoin. Working with resin, lifeblood of the trees, offers an energetic connection to these conifers and a deeper relationship with the forest.
Easier to find:
Spruce (Picea glauca)
Pine (Pinus strobus)
Fir (Abies balsamea)
More rare:
Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)
Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)
Tamarack (Larix laricina)
Juniper (Juniperus communis)
*Species are relative to my area, yours may differ! Consult your local plant guides to find what is in your area*
What is resin: unlike sap, which carries water and nutrients throughout the tree, resins are not soluble in water and hardens with exposure to air. Resins are produced by tress to seal off wounds and protect the tree from insects and infection and are often exceptionally aromatic.
Refrence [x]
On harvesting: collect resin from freshly wind-felled or otherwise fallen trees with out worry. When harvesting from live trees it's important to note from the above that resins are produced seal a wounded tree, when harvesting it's important to keep in mind where this wound is and to not take resin from that area. Offer them honey and protective (anti-microbial) herbs or some personal energy when taking resin. Luckily trees over produce and make massive globs of resin drips, which is what your looking to harvest. I recommend using an old butter knife and a waxed cup to collect your resin (in true Vermont spirit I use a Ben and Jerry’s pint) but you could also use a glass vessel (like mason jar). Without going into the bark of the tree, gently scrape off resin and collect in your container. Sometimes resin globs will have a small layer of bark over them: scrape this off with your knife to revel the resin underneith. Note some resins are more sticky while others are harder (species, age, temperature all play a role). Use isoproply alcohol to clean your tools and hands... 90% ... it’s the only thing that will work.
*make sure you have permission to harvest where ever you are doing so: I sometimes forget not everyone has 17 acres of woods in their back yard*
I treasure resins for their aromatic properties and as a sacred connection to the forest. But they have multiple properties and uses:
Burn resin over hot charcoal by itself or in a blend
Freeze resin, then powder with an electric grinder, mix with other herbs and binders to make cone or stick incense
Add to wax melts or oil burners
Dissolve in high proof ethanol (consumable alcohol) to make a tincture or incense papers.
Infuse into a favorite carrier oil such as olive or sweet almond. Oils can be used as stand-alone products or made into slaves, soaps, etc.
I mostly work with Spruce resin, as it is most abundant around me and relatively easily to work with. I've just started dabbling with the much more sticky Balsam Fir. My neighbor has way more white pine than we do so I have to take walk over there one of these days to see if any of them have any good globs to work with. The others I have not found. If you have any experience working with your local resins I would love to hear.

(reblogging for @wakingwitchblr sustainable Saturday)
For a more sustainable craft, I look for ingredients for spells, rituals, or offerings from what I have available around me. Obviously some creations require outside sources, but I definitely prefer to use local things as much as possible so that it’s not coming for exploited over harvesting or trucked/shipped from around the world. Not only is it more sustainable for the enviornment but allows me to develop a deeper relationship and become more familiar with the local landscape and gifts and energy it has to offer. I know not everyone has access to the same opportunities I do, but take this as a challenge to engage with your local envoiroment and see what it has to offer before going to the witch store.
would you by any chance be willing to share your bibliomancy python code when it's usable? It looks cool as fuck and I'd love to test it out!! I'd make one myself but I don't think I know quite enough about chaos magic yet to make that happen 😅
Loving the implication that learning chaos magic makes you better at python, that would have made college a lot easier for me
And yeah I guess, it’s really not a complicated script I’m always just lazy about how I do things. You can probably tell how I’m going about this and figure out a more efficient way to do it lol but for my purposes it works just fine
fwiw gutenberg is always the best place to get material for this kind of thing since they format all their books in plain txt files specifically for data analysis projects and research stuff
i think hecate’s rejecting me??
For the past couple weeks, I’ve really felt called to Hecate and I decided that I was going to worship her.
I got really psyched out for the Harvest moon and i did some meditation the night before because i planned on doing a bunch of stuff for her on that day and it felt odd. I felt a little unsure right after it, but i figured it wouldnt be anything.
When I woke up, I felt awful. I had absolutely no energy. I got really stressed and anxious at school. After school, there was a thunderstorm outside and I couldn’t see the moon at all and I wasn’t allowed to go outside. I was so disappointed. When I woke up the next morning, I realized I’d gotten my period during the night.
Does anyone know if it’s just because of my period? Or if she’s rejecting me? Is another deity trying to give me signs?? I’d love any feedback that anyone has.
I’d like to start a Hellenic Pagan follow train/thread! 🚂✨
I saw someone doing this for Norse Pagans, and I think it’d be nice if we could have one for Hellenic Pagans, as well!
Follow me, and I’ll follow back (from my main) if:
✦ You consider yourself to be a Hellenic Pagan.
✦ You are a follower or devotee of any Hellenic deities.
✦ Practice witchcraft or any other type of ritual-based work revolving around Hellenic deities or traditions.
✦ (I am especially interested if you work with Hecate, Persephone, and/or Hades, but this is not an absolute necessity.)
Please reblog this post (from your most relevant blog, preferably) so other Hellenic Pagans can find you, as well! If you have patron/matron deities, bonus points if you post their names in the reblog! 💜
Hi! This is Alex and I’ve been kind of neglecting my craft but I’m an eclectic witch with a special focus on hellenic paganism! I’m pretty new to all of it but I’m feeling a strong calling (don’t know just from who yet) and I’m super excited about it. Right now I’m trying to learn as much information as I can but I hope to get my rituals and other stuff working smoothly soon!
This is a part two to my first post of edits!
In order it’s Philotes, Poseidon, Ares, and Apollo!
(Once again the art is not mine, I just edited it together from google! Please don’t repost, just reblog)

Hello! So @hermes-is-my-homeboy encouraged me to post these, They’re edits I mades for (in order) Aphrodite, Hermes, Dionysus and Hades! I
I’m tempted to get some sigils tatted on my body that charge as my body moves.
Just imagine
A sigil for attracting positive energy on one wrist, and one for disposing of negative energy on the other. They charge by themselves from my pulse and body heat, but can be activated by rubbing them together.
A protection/calming sigil on the back of my neck, hidden by my hair, that suddenly activates when I nervously put my hand in my neck as I tend to do.
A calming sigil on my chest that activates when my breathing/heartbeat suddenly speeds up.
Sigils for safe traveling and steady standing on the soles of my feet that charge by the pressure of me standing/walking on them.
Just… cover me in sigils babey
Garden Protection Spell
If you keep a garden or even just a few houseplants, use the spell to protect them and to encourage healthy, flourishing growth. This spell can be used for any type of plant, indoor or out.
Visualize your plants in perfect health; picture of the ideal growing conditions. Imagine an invisible protective shell or bubble around the plants that allow are, light, and water to enter But repels anything harmful, such as pests and disease.
Add a quartz crystal to the bed or soil if desired, and as a protective measure. Chant:
Roots grow deep, and branches strong, growing season full and long
Bless this garden and its yield, protected with a magic shield
Let no weather, pests, or blight harm these plants, day or night

Attention friends who keep killing their plants!
I found a really good book that I think will help!
It’s really easy to follow and has a wide variety of plants:
You can basically find the plant listed that looks most like the plant you have, and go to the page listed under it. And it’ll say how to care for it!
Here’s an example ^ not only does it say what lighting and watering it needs like most books, but it also lists the different things that can go wrong with this plant and which make us think it’s dying. Like wilting being too much water, edges crisping being not enough misting, what sunburn on this plant looks like, etc.
A common mistake people make that kills plants is too much water or not enough water, it can be tricky until you get used to your plant’s needs! This explains watering techniques really well.
And a bunch of other stuff it shows you, like buying the best plant for your environment, repotting them, feeding them, all sorts of things!
It’s definitely a new favorite 😌
reblogging for future reference, because I am so tired of being a plant murderer.
blessed samhain! the veil is thin and so is my damn patience

Hey, I was wondering if you could link or reblog your post about finding your Magic’s color? Thank you! -PaperandHerb
Hi there Paper&Herb! Sure I can! Here you go! I hope it’s useful to you!How to find your working energy’s color:Whether you need to cast a circle, mingle your energy with your wand, or charge an object, it can sometimes be hard to visualize it. The easiest way to work with your energy is to see it! So here’s a very simple exercise to find your energy and to work with it! I promise when you see the color of your energy, spells become a LOT easier! Get comfy, close your eyes, and take a slow, deep breath in. Hold it for 3 counts and then slowly exhale. Do this 3 times (or as many as you need to relax) before letting your breathing fall into its natural rhythm. Imagine you’re in darkness. It’s comfortable, warm, safe. As you float there you see a line*. Go to it. This is your thread of energy, follow the thread, touch it, if you want. You will be lead to where it came from, your main energy pool**. This is YOUR personal energy. Get to know it, bask in it a little. When you’re read, slowly open your eyes. You are now ready to cast magic! Anytime you feel you can’t cast, or it’s hard, just use this exercise to find your energy again, we all lose sight/feel sometimes! *The line will be different for everyone. Some see it as yarn, some as a neon light, some as mist, etc. The color is also different for everyone, as is the thickness and brightness. Occasionally your color will change! Not all the time, maybe never, but sometimes it can! Mine was purple for the longest time, and now it’s blue! **The shape of the energy pool is different for everyone. Mine is a massive pillar. A friend of mine’s is a sphere, and still another’s is a puddle on the ‘ground’. So don’t worry if yours ‘looks right’.
i had a dark blue string (either slightly frayed or with mist surrounding it) leading into a pitch-black forest. At the center was a large pond, with a smooth, reflective surface, like glass. There was a small, raised path leading to a perfect circle of rock in the middle of it. Above was the clearest full moon you could imagine, and a sky packed with stars–twice as much as our natural night sky. I can’t tell what, if any of it, was my energy pool, but they all seemed to give off different feelings.
It was an enjoyable exercise. ~Alex
