Ukrainian/Slavic Daenerys for this year‘s danycultures!
tiktok asoaif fans can genuinely post something like 'i think this character mentioned once in fire and blood aerella targaryen who is 80% oc made of headcanons is more interesting and relevant than daenerys targaryen one of grrm's first and most important characters' and their posts get 100k likes
she was naked, covered with soot, her clothes turned to ash, her beautiful hair all crisped away... yet she was unhurt

You know, I'm starting to feel a bit of pity towards everyone who misread or twisted Dany's story, because I feel that they just aren't able to hold a heroic/messianic female character, even when the text can't be more clearer about it.
Daenerys wasn't in AFFC but George still managed to remind us that she exists while a good part of the book.

"The woman took a step backward. "You must leave this city soon, Daenerys Tar-garyen, or you will never be permitted to leave it at all."
Dany's wrist still tingled where Quaithe had touched her. "Where would you have me go?" she asked.
"To go north, you must journey south.
To reach the west, you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow" -ACOK -Daenerys III
Working on my HOTU series and re-reading the text ...I've re-read the chapter before Dany enters HOTU ....and it's the chapter with the fire mage and the fire stair and also it's the chapter where Quaithe is telling Dany that misterious text (" to reach north ...etc") for the first time ... and in my head every time I read this bit ...Quaithe has a mask like a mirror ...because the red mask is lacquered...so it's a reflective surface...so I think Quaithe functions ....also...sometimes like a reflection of Dany and her surroundings....like some kind of conscious ...reflecting back at Dany her fears and desires ...
WUTHERING HEIGHTS (2011) dir. Andrea Arnold
flashbacks of when i got dengue when i was 16. 20 days i can never quite remember. just pain and sleep and my dad half carrying me around bc I couldn't keep lying down because... pain. couldn't even work my jaw to chew food it was so so so tiring. missed so many important physics lectures that came back to haunt me half a year later.
someone whose never lived anywhere where malaria / dengue / chikingunya is endemic: we need to love mosquitoes more!!! they're so important to the ecosystem you just need to get over those massive death tolls, the only disease that really needs to be cured is cancer
i know its mostly contrarianism, but the rates at which mosquitoes breed in major cities in the tropics is just as destabilising to local ecosystems lol. surprisingly, every shallow pond, sewer and garden in new delhi was not meant to breed mosquitoes.
to the people in my notes, no the problem with the vaccine against malaria is that it isn't very effective. its about 40% effective and reduces mortality only by 13%. there is basically no treatment for the viral illnesses like dengue or chikingunya. the widely agreed upon option is controlling the spread of the pathogen by its vector. these illnesses lead to about 600k deaths in 2023.
aedes aegypti the specific species that spreads about 53 pathogens is invasive outside north africa. the cutting edge of eradication efforts trialled in brazil is releasing genetically modified male mosquitoes (only the female bites) which self limits the population since their offspring can't survive to adulthood. similar trials for female sterility have been trialled with the malaria causing anopheles genus. these methods have neither the downsides of mass poisoning that insectides do, nor the widespread insectide resistance that mosquitoes eventually develop.
