Fate or fixed?
Late to this party but one of the most powerful videos I've seen in a long time. Particularly pertinent at this time.
An interesting article we can all take heed of.
An accurate depiction of the day. Tried my taster day at Impact Hub Kings Cross and met up with 2 members of my ‘advisory board’, a small knit group from various facets of your life to guide you on your journey and keep you on track (thank you to Michael Ambjorn for suggesting it, a gem of an idea). The day ended on a great high.
Day 2 - Up-rooting
Granted this image doesn’t completely align professionally but it links to serendipity, a topic I am very interested in. Today I worked from home with a short stint in the local library. It allowed for a fortuitous event, a neighbourly call, who wanted our beautiful but extensive fig tree trimmed so he could benefit from more light. Sure I said if you help me deal with the fact it’s taken over the entire garden following London’s recent summer storms. What ensued was some old fashioned hard graft and a happy exchange with a filmmaker and fellow neighbour. None of which would have been possible my old life.
Freelance + fig tree = serendipity?
The Paradox of Choice - I think this is what got me yesterday. Great watch.
First blog of the first day
Today marks the end of my first day as a freelancer.
How did it go? It’s been a mixed bag if I’m honest, I wanted to treat it as a normal working day, get up at 8 (ok, I’ll admit, a small lie in there) start work at 9. And it started well. I’ve called upon the tools from my new Daily Greatness Journal to help me on this new and unchartered personal and professional journey.
It promises to radically transform and alter my destiny if used every day. Big promises indeed. I started with a dose of inspiration from an RSAnimate, 10 minutes of meditation and I was good to go.
As a very new founder of my own company, I know I’ve got a lot to learn; about running a business, finances, tax, marketing, business models etc. And then there’s my first project I’m working on, an exciting environmental project showcasing indigenous heroes protecting their forests. Plenty to be excited about.
But. It’s nearly 7pm on day 1 and I’m still pouring over work related material. Why? To refer to *insert name here* animate I watched this morning on modern ways of working, I have been crippled by the ‘working from home guilt’ - the assumption that my peers will think I am being lazy so I’m now over compensating. I don’t even have colleagues anymore, so the guilt is unreasonable to say the least. There, I’ve said it out loud, I think I’ve underperformed on day 1. I feel better already!
I’ll call it a day now, dinner is nearly ready but I’ve learnt a few things already. Coworking will be the way forward for me. Does anyone have any good tips for London-based Coworking? I won’t beat myself up too much, starting anything new takes time to get used to. It’s within my power to set my own agenda now - and that’s the exciting part.
