TIM.

     Casually, Tim mouthed, mouth twisting. He used to be able to do casually, but somehow he didn’t think asking someone out on a date should be likened to picking up a stranger at a bar. Never mind the fact that he hasn’t been able to get it up anymore since Mount Massive. “But if I jus’… do it casually, how is she gonna know it’s a date? Should I casually drop th’ word ‘date’ too or–?” 

      Rubbing a hand over his face, already imagining all the scenarios in which this could go wrong, he shook his head at her suggestion. “Think I’ll keep those ‘ntil she said yes. Otherwise I’d feel like ‘n idiot with ‘em.”

❝---You’ve honestly never asked anyone out on a date before? Are you guys sure I’m the one that was sheltered as a child?❞ ---It was hard to tell. ❝Listen, she likes you, && you like her. So, it should be easy, okay? Just ask her on a date. She’ll say yes. You won’t be stupid with flowers && you won’t be stupid with anything because the only stupid thing you’re doing is acting as though you might end the world by asking her out.❞

      At the mention of Miles’ latest stupidity, Tim rolled his eyes, fight deflating from his shoulders. He pressed out a harsh sigh between his teeth, flush coating his cheeks as Laura spoke about Bobbi lighting up. Most likely she was simply exaggerating to convince him, but – it was a nice thought. “Rabbit loves me,” he retorted, but without much conviction; more like something akin to resignation. “I ain’t ever asked anyone out ‘fore, th’ hell do y’ even start a topic like that.”

❝Rabbit loves everyone. Well---anyone good to Miles. She hates anyone who hates him.❞ That dog was a miracle--- how she managed to find Rabbit so quickly to give to Miles as a gift was beyond her. ❝You two talk often, don’t you? Just ask her to go to a movie or to dinner. Say it casually... I’d say ask Miles but I was the one who made the first move on him.❞

---She didn’t even know who he was. Laura just needed a date for the event && asked the first cute guy she saw. (Only cute guy.) ❝You can give her flowers. I have a garden, you know. I can give you some fresh flowers to give to her.❞

       “Jesus Christ, Laura, stop, I—,” he threw up his hands to ward off the pillow, flinching back from it and trying to tamper down on his irritation ( partially because he knew she was right, partially because he didn’t need her nose in his business ), before he grabbed the pillow with an angry growl and threw it into her face, “ All right I’ll fuckin’ ask her, back th’ fuck off. “ And then, realizing what he’d said, he froze. His eyes were dark, jaw tight. “ You’re a damn menace, Miles ever told y’ that? “

❝I believe Miles calls it being persistent, you forget we’re talking about the guy who will ignore ‘do not cross’ signs in order to get a story written.❞ It was how they balanced one another out--- only she happened to be more willing to hit people with pillows. ❝Ask her out, Tim. She lit up when she spoke about you, && girls only do that when they really like a guy. If you don’t ask her out, I’m going to tie Rabbit to your chair && throw a tennis ball.❞

        That’s because Miles knows,the retort lay on the tip of his tongue before he swallowed it down. Bobbi knew too. Not as well as Miles, but – “Miles ‘n I get on each other’s nerves plenty a’ times,” he said, sounding defensive to his own ears. “I mean, shit Laura, there’s days I ain’t even able t’ spend energy gettin’ outta bed or I feel so damn angry – I don’t want t’ put that on her. She deserves better.”

❝I’m not telling you to go && get married right away, Tim. I’m telling you to ask her on a DATE. Miles has days---weeks even---where he doesn’t want to do anything. Hell, he went on vacation with you, && I’m pretty sure you two aren’t married. Unless, of course, you have something you’d like to share.❞ To make sure there was minimal damage to his head, she chose a pillow to hit him with.

     “Yeah, she’s pretty. She’s kind, she’s carin’, she…—” his jaw tightened. “I’m jus’ a sad sack in a wheel chair with anger issues, th’ fuck do I gotta offer her?” She hadn’t left yet, but how much longer was that going to last? “I mean, look at me.”

❝---You’re kind, helpful, loyal && a wonderful friend to Miles. I think if the chair was a problem, she would have left the minute she saw it, don’t you think? Stop making up excuses on why you shouldn’t ask her out && just do it before you regret not doing it.❞

       “She’s a friend,” Tim’s voice was rife with suspicion, his eyes narrowed slightly. “I don’t wanna make it awkward. I mean it ain’t like I…” he pauzed, lips pressing together, because that’d probably be a lie and both Laura and Miles had this way of fucking smelling lies. “What makes y’ think she’d even say yes?”

❝What are you going to do--- NOT ask anyone out or give anything a chance? She’s really pretty, Tim. && when we spoke about you she looked like she genuinely cared for you--- Ask her on a date. Drinks or dinner or a movie night--- Just do it.❞

Bobbi dipped her head, blush climbing up the porcelain of her throat, pink painting the apples of her cheeks.

              “I’ve told you before. You are mine. You know what               that means? It means you can’t go ‘round fuckin’ other               guys.” Mostly because he’d make an effort to personally               gut her partners. “What do you mean waiting? I don’                know what you want from me, darling.”

          If you haven’t noticed, Tobias, I don’t ask ANYTHING of you. You helped me when I needed it--- && I am forever grateful for that. I always will be, but I am not going to be like every other woman who throws herself at you only to realize she has your illegitimate child in her. I don’t want that. The man who was here was a FRIEND--- I have those, you know. If I was going to lose my virginity, I’d of done it a long time ago.❞
