Jasnah's backstory?
Trigger Warning: SA and Stormlight Spoilers
Rereading the storm light series now that I have the physical books and just got to Jasnah's "philosophy lesson" in the streets of Karbranth. That moment when her tone grows extra harsh towards the would be robbers and Shallan wonders "what was done to you?"
From what I recall we ended in Wind and Truth still not having a full idea of Jasnah's backstory and I felt like Sanderson was setting up for revealing more of it in the next half of the series.
From this little bit, I wonder if Jasnah is a SA survivor. Obviously it doesn't take having experienced it to hate it, and the line before Shallan's question doesn't even directly mention rape (tho she did earlier). But still it feels like an important moment that I don't recall having been elaborated on later. The only time I remembered this moment being brought back up again was in Wind and Truth during her debate with Taravangian.
Regardless I really hope the flashback chapters in book 6 are Jasnah's, she was my favorite character when I read Way of Kings for the first time and is still one of my all time favorites.
Is there anything hotter than Renarin Kholin doing the fucking dishes after joining Bridge Four
so like. theoretically. could you forge a sword out of atium and then pump a bunch of identity and investiture into it with spiritual feruchemy, and would that make a Scadrian shardblade?
Brandon Sanderson said he took notes from project hail mary when thinking about how to adapt a book, so i hope for the mistborn movie they go absolutely insane with the practical effects. like wire fu for steelpushing, prosthetics for inquisitors, and covering france in ash for real.
Hmmmmm, me with Jaswit.
I've got to look up every possible way to sew hidden, concealed and non-obvious pockets and other such storage caches in all of my clothing, and then have as many of those as I can fit in every item in my wardrobe. Trying to get as much hidden storage space on my person as possible. Carrying around a backpack's worth of shit without carrying a bag of any sort.
Getting bored while waiting for the bus and just casually pulling a goddamn sewing kit out of my sleeve to start doing needlework on my jeans, like hey hold on where the fuck did you just pull that shit from. Equipping shit from my secret inventory.
Hammer space but it's a pocket specifically located on your left calf. Neat :D
i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands
proud victim of the tumblr accent. it's fading out of public consciousness as the tik tok accent takes precedence; a linguistic evolution that makes the tumblr accent 85% funnier to unsuspecting civilians. it's like releasing a disease on a non-inoculated population. coughing baby versus hydrogen bomb.
I constantly think about ronan and kavinsky in The Dream Thieves because genuinely what the fuck did they have going on
todayâs worldbuilding project is a superpower setting called âfortress and the damselâ. Fortress and Damsel are people, the two most significant reality-warpers currently active.
Fortress constantly generates an aura of safety, which keeps the people within a certain radius from getting hurt. Like, survive a nuclear strike level protection. It covers miles, so she can easily protect an entire community just by being there. She has some degree of ability to manipulate it, and has been known to shrink the radius to just cover herself if you try to force her to be somewhere, so people âcourtâ (read: lavishly bribe) her to keep her around.
Damsel is in the complete opposite situation, because her power grants anyone trying to rescue her from a dangerous situation with whatever powers they need to succeed. You can win a whole war that way if you can get the right people to keep her prisoner. Just like Fortress, sheâs a hot commodity, but instead of obscene social influence, sheâs in hell.
The inciting action is somebody trying to use Damsel to kill somebody within Fortressâ radius, only for Fortress herself to show up and go âhey baby, want to be safe forever so nobody can use your power ever again?â and run off with her.
This is a very different narrative depending on if youâre watching Fortress and Damsel or if youâre watching the rest of the superpowered community.
For the two of them, itâs a romance between two people who have been treated like objects in very different ways! Damsel is having a grand old time being spiteful and flaunting her new situation while Fortress lavishly indulges her.
For everyone else, this is the nightmare scenario. Fortress isnât a superhero, sheâs a free agent that can shut down everything from police raids to intercontinental bombings, and she takes bribes! Damsel has the only known superpower that could beat her, because if Fortress was threatening her in some way, reality would shift so she could be rescued.
And instead of serving as an emergency backup against Fortress, Damsel has disappeared into the safe zone to learn how many orgasms she can have before she passes out. There is no contingency plan for horny lesbians.
I have not posted this one here? How have I not posted this one here, yet? I posted it during inktober last year on instagram but shamefully not here, it seems. Ah, well... it fits pride month. Hooray to all you bisexuals (and aces, because we know how Kal is...) out there! Sandra has something for you, too!
Young, handsome people on a daring mission. Will they find their way through a besieged city and a dark strange world (and into each otherâs heart)?
We lovingly refer to October 10th as âShakadolin Day,â as itâs the six-year anniversary of Brandon tweeting âI could see a world where Shallan and Adolin would go for it, but Kaladin is as prudish as I am, so I doubt youâd persuade him. đ For now, weâll have to leave that to the imaginations of the fanfic writers.âÂ
Prompting many to ask âWait, is this confirmation that Adolin is Bi?,â âSo Kaladinâs obstacle is his prudishness, not his orientation?,â and âWhat do you mean âfor nowâ???â
And in Sandraâs series being prudish is just a challenge not an obstacle đ
Cheers to all of you! And extra cheers as always to the amazing @priscellie who created the beautiful cover mock up with my illustration đ©·đ©·đ©· ID by the wonderful @cosmereplay with additions by me
While Butcher has been often accused of employing male fantasy tropes in his works, I sometimes think he has a habit of subverting them.
Thomas embodies two tropes: he has women magically drawn to him and being the only son in a billionaire family, is effectively the rich playboy who would make Dan Bilzerian jealous. He never had to work a day in his life up until he moved in with Harry, and he got to spend his time sleeping around, learning martial arts and driving fancy sports cars. His life on paper sounds like a dream come true.
However, for Thomas it's a dream come true in the sense that it's a nightmare. His magical ability is a demon that feeds on his partners. It makes it incredibly difficult for him to hold down a job, instead of filling him with pride, it fills him with self-loathing, and the cherry on top, he can't touch his true love Justine, the one woman he genuinely wants to be with. He has stated more than once that he wished he didn't have it.
Living off the family money also makes him dependent on his toxic family whom he would gladly have cut off otherwise. He never received anything in the way of love from his father, and while I think we could say he does love his siblings to a degree, we never see much in the way of warmth in his relationships with the people in his family. The only exceptions may have been his mother who left him when he was five, and his sister Inari. One thing Molly noted when soulgazing him is that he was, deep down, very much lonely. He had money and women, but he preferred his impoverished half-brother and his girlfriend, wanting real relationships over the glamour of his White Court life.
Harry is practically living a male fantasy right now as of Battleground. On paper, he's never been better. He lives in a literal castle as opposed to his old dingy apartment, has a small army of fae (pun intended), money from the haul in Skin Game and an extremely beautiful, superrich fiancé who's supernaturally good in bed. There are plenty of guys who would trade places with him right now in a heart beat. However, it's clear that he is not happy, if anything, he has never been more sad since the beginning of the series.
He has an awful boss with a job he has for life, and his fiancé is someone he can respect but never see as wife material. He lost a friend in Carlos, and his relationship with Eb is now strained. Two of some of the closest people in his life are gone. His brother Thomas has been locked away, and his lifelong friend and girlfriend Karrin is dead. Karrin was literally his true love, certified by Lara, and she was the person he trusted most, the one he trusted with his daughter and the Swords. It left a big hole in him that cannot be satisfied by castles, money or whampire wives. As the adage goes "money can't buy happiness" and neither can magic in the sense that it can't buy real relationships.
Harry was happier when he was still an impoverished PI in a dingy apartment where he had his independence and the authentic relationships with people he cared about. Harry and Thomas live the fantasy, but it's defined by a sense of emptiness. They truly desire connection and wanting to be their own men.
The male fantasy is a fantasy for a reason. It reminds me of the words of the late Summer Lady Lily: âI didnât want the world. I didnât want vast riches, or fame, or power. I wanted a husband. Children. Love. A home that we made together."
Graphic audios are dramatising The Dresden files! I hate the Dresden files but I also love them, they are like a cheap pizza in book form. đ
Harry is a cringe fail loser wizard that gawks at women and gets beaten with a hammer every other page. I like him very much.
Murphy is a tiny firecracker detective that looks like your favourite cool aunt, I want her to be happy and healthy and to kick Harry more in the shins.
Gotta draw Shallan showing her plant drawings to Vin Mistborn.
I want them to be friends so bad since both Vin and Shallan lacked girl friendships in canon and we have to fix it
I'm really concerded by some of the decisions my Mii characters are making in Tomodachi Cosmere island because the herald named Ash has fallen in love with Evi Kholin, and now Chana has fallen in love with Hoid.
I don't know what's more ironic and crazy between those twoâŠ. but a part of me love chaos and I don't want to stop them
