With Chapter 5 in... *checks countdown*... 5 hours, I thought I'd share this interactive story I made last month:
It's based on the unused dialogue found in the game files - which we should be getting more of in Chapter 5.
So maybe this'll have aged terribly in a matter of hours - or amazingly - or been completely irrelevant... Who knows?
Current title screen of my game, Nature Falls!
Fairly happy with how it turned out, going to try adding some small animations though. If I can figure out how to animate, that is.
Posting screenshots of my game, Nature Falls, for the first time!
Featuring: your mother, The Void, cat pics, and... bush romance?!
How it started vs. How it's going
In the absence of anything cool to post about, behold:Â
Generic RPG, my first RPGMaker project.
Anyone who’s used RPGMaker will have something like this: a nonsensical game with even more nonsensical mechanics - random dialogue, unnamed characters who join your party for no particular reason, items you spent approximately 5 seconds naming. This was my (unsurprisingly unfinished) version of that.
You (or rather, our main character called ‘???’) awaken on a strange island, with no memory of your identity, where you are, or how you got there. Luckily there’s a stranger (aptly named ‘stranger’) who you can talk to (and potentially fight, if you so fancy).
If successfully choosing the dialogue options which lead to a fight, you are greeted by a colourful void (don’t question it), and an angry stranger, accompanied by a white box floating above his head that won’t leave. The ensuing battle has a roughly 50/50 win/lose chance, with both characters expressing that they have no clue what they are doing, much like myself.
After this thrilling encounter, the stranger reveals that he also has amnesia and therefore can provide you with no additional information, before joining your party. The two of you can now enter the town on the map.
You are greeted by a place that likely resembled the streets of your own neighborhood during lockdown: barren streets, not a soul outside. Except for the guy on fire. But we’ll get to him later.
Moreover, there is but a single building in this town: an Inn.Â
But, oh no! The doors are blocked... whatever will you do? (Ignore the fact I shamelessly stole assets from Omori).
Luckily there’s a convenient burning man running around a lake, and, upon speaking to him, he bestows upon you blessing which allows you to enter the Inn.Â
Now you’re free to explore this half-finished building full of mystery and intrigue.
Featuring:
The ability to insult a child.
Unbeelievably bad puns.
Piss bucket.
Lore that never gets explained because I got lazy.
More lore that never gets explained.
Drugs Simulator 2023.
What’s this...?
The only room you ever need.
Accurate cat behaviour (sometimes they block the door and you have to wait for them to leave).
This guy getting defensive over his cosplay.
The ability to buy infinite NFTs.
Pointless interactions.
Cool original music I definitely wrote and didn’t steal from Undertale.
After exploring for a while, ignoring all the rooms that are full of items but have no interactions, you come across a mysteriously locked door.Â
Lucky for you, you still have that key you picked up earlier, and it’s a perfect fit. Opening the door you-
What?
No, that’s not possible.
You’re not supposed to be here.
Get out while you still can.
