It’s exciting when you find parts of yourself in someone else.

I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.

Simple Routine
The sunlight peeks through the shades and hits the ruffled sheets. It gently warms the dried river bed of dreams, caressing the smooth outlines of two bodies, slowly making its way to the eyes of the beholder. It stings, it’s not welcomed initially. The bodies turn, reposition and hold each other closer than they were before. This is the time where, regardless of the state of physical appearance, that the clutch of those two arms wrapped intently around ones torso is a seemingly endless form of endearment. The cheek nuzzles into the nape of the others neck; the forearm feels the slight pitter-patter of a sleepy but warm heart, and a silent acknowledgement of rightness is made by simple gestures. The sunlight has now encompassed the faces of the tired twosome, extending its frills of cozy refreshment, warming the two laying bodies easily and peacefully.

Here’s a full seven minute tune I loosely composed called “Little Sur,” recorded last February in New York City. I got together with some of my friends and favorite players for six amazing days of playing music with no rules, no plans, and no pressure. Oh, and no vocals. What came from it was a really inspired batch of recordings. Hours of music that I’ll need to sift through at some point should it ever become an album. (I hope it does.) If you’re wondering where I am in the mix, that’s me playing a Music Man long scale guitar… Pino and I are kind of both living in the bass space. As soon as Chick came in on the piano, I knew something really deep was taking place. This is the rough mix that was given to me at the end of the day, as it has lived on my laptop since.
I tried to find a minute, two minute clip to share with you, but these recordings just don’t work any other way than in their unabridged form. So here it is. Free music. Played freely, shared freely. Put it on and go for the ride… If you dig all seven minutes, then surely you deserve them.
There are times for marketing strategies, and there are times for just p l a y i n g. The original design for all musicians. Hope you enjoy hearing this as much as I did.

Look, let’s give it up. Let’s just lay around and make love and take walks and talk a little. Let’s drive down and look at the ocean. It’s only 45 minutes. Let’s play games in the arcades. Let’s go to the races, the Art Museum, the boxing matches. Let’s have friends. Let’s laugh. This kind of life like everybody else’s kind of life: it’s killing us.

There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.

DESIGN: Submerged Turntable by Evan Holm
Artist Evan Holm is convinced that ‘there will be a time when all tracings of human culture will dissolve back into the soil under the slow crush of the unfolding universe’.
To demonstrate these rather dark thoughts, he created a submerged record player that’s still producing a nearly perfect audio as demonstrated in the short video below.
