A/N: This is specifically a female-imprint x Leah scenario.
Leah having really torn feelings about imprinting on you when it first happens because up until then imprinting had been horrible to her
But of course you didn’t know her backstory, so you were a little perplexed by her actions. She seemed really interested and really not all at once
Taking things slowly in the beginning and just being friends for a while because of Leah’s aforementioned issues with imprinting
Leah promising herself that you two would always just be friends because she didn’t want to give in to the imprint. She is stubborn and being more than friends seemed like the imprint would have finally beat her
Gradually becoming closer and closer to Leah
Realizing that beneath the layer of boiling tea and sarcasm (that you love so much) there’s a really sensitive, compassionate person who you care for even more
Her realizing that she really is romantically interested in you when she has a terrible day with the pack, and you meet her at her place, and she’s just so happy to see you that she breaks down into tears
It was the first time that you had seen Leah cry and you immediately started comforting her. But you weren’t trying to prompt her to talk about it, you were just hugging her and rubbing her back. You offered to make her some hot cocoa or tea, and a blanket
In that moment when you hand her a warm mug full of cocoa, she just has this overwhelming urge to kiss you
So she does
You’re a little surprised, but into it. You’d been pining after Leah for a while
You spend the rest of the night just cuddling and kissing on the couch.
Since that night, the two of you were inseparable
Meeting Seth. You both have a deep admiration for each other. you admire how optimistic and friendly Seth always is. Seth admires how much of a great friend and partner you are for Leah, highlighting her strengths and fortifying her weaknesses. Leah is overjoyed that you two get along so well
Leah being so on edge when you meet the pack. She didn’t really give a flying fuck what their opinion of you was, it would never keep the two of you apart. But she was worried that their boyish humor would lead them to say something hurtful or insensitive to you
You learned that Leah had more history with imprints than most, and having a lot of respect for her past issues
Leah starting to take college classes part-time working towards a bachelor’s degree in the hopes that the both of you could move to Seattle or Portland together
Laughing at her caustic sarcasm when she directs it at people because that girl is the #1 queen of snatching wigs
Going on car rides around the countryside with no specific destination because there are times that she’d rather be literally anywhere else as long as you are with her
Re-creating mushy couple Instagram posts partially because you both like to make fun of those posts a little bit, but also because she secretly loves publicly showing her love for you
Leah making sure that you feel just as accepted in the pack as other imprints do. It doesn’t end up being a thing that’s a problem, but at first, she was really worried
Strong, silent, stoic, rough Leah turning very kawaii when she is tired or sick, which you think is the most adorable thing in the world and you kind of love it. Usually, she is always going out of her way to make sure that you feel loved and taken care of and insists on doing everything for you, so you love when you are able to take care of her and make her feel loved
Feeling so emotionally safe with Leah and vice-versa. Knowing that you could tell her anything that you are thinking and feeling and she will listen and validate your expressions
Just like I wasn't trolling before with Renesmee before, I promise that I am still not trolling now.
Claire got basically no words or time allocated to her character in either the books or movies, respectively. I couldn’t even find any pictures of her to add to this post. Which, tbh, I don’t blame SM for. I feel like Twilight Tumblr has discussed in detail how strange and problematic it is that there are 17, 18, and 19-year-old dog-bois that are being told by their genes that a toddler is their mate. It’s weird. It’s good that SM didn’t lean into that strange choice more than she already did.
That being said, we also can’t type Claire for the Myers Briggs then. The best thing that I can leave you with is what I wrote in the graphic; I wouldn’t want to be judged for the rest of my life based upon the things that I did as a toddler - we shouldn’t doom Claire to that fate either.
I know that this might ruffle some feathers, and it might seem like I am trolling some, but I promise that I am mostly not.
Even though we see a lot of canon interactions between Renesmee and other characters in the Twilight universe, they’re not enough to categorize her because they all happen when she’s a child.
It’s a fully accepted thing to people who know about the Myers Briggs to know that someone can’t be truly categorized until they’re at least eighteen. A young person’s personality and idea of themself changes too much as they are growing up and finding their place in the world that there is no way to truly tie back a few conversations here and there to the heart of their identity.
I’m sorry to anyone that this upsets. However - you can think of this as a positive. Renesmee’s mbti is free real estate for headcanons. You can think of her as any type that you would like.
Rachel is the adult imprint that we know the least about. I did my best to try to sort her based on what SM gave us, but please don't @ me if you feel like I did her dirty.
What we do know about Rachel’s personality is that she is very smart and studious. When her mother passed away, Rachel decided that she wanted to get out of La Push, and the way that she achieved this goal was through attaining an academic scholarship to study computer engineering at Washington State University. (This TBH, is why I don’t write many fics where Paul and Rachel are imprinted. It makes absolutely no sense for either character at that time in their lives. SM did some dumb things with her characters)
SM doesn’t give us a lot of Rachel canon, so it’s hard to know what were inherent traits of Rachel’s personality, and what traits evolved specifically in reaction to the death of her mother as a fairly young person.
I settled on Rachel being a moderate extrovert because I don’t think that anyone could put up with Paul for very long if they weren’t moderately extroverted.
The STJ all fell in to place when you consider Rachel’s general drive for success and the discipline that she chose to study along with her career. It would make sense that someone who was a computer engineer would have traits that make them systematic, analytical, and results driven.
I also think that her STJ traits allow her to be able to stand up to Paul when necessary. We can all admit that he can be downright willful at times.
Kim is the imprint with the second largest cache of canon information given to the readers by SM (after Emily). Even so, that’s not much. I had to make some educated guesses based on the small amount of canon SM gave us about Kim.
I sorted Kim almost immediately into the introvert category. She does seem much more quiet and introspective compared with Emily in the times that the reader encounters Kim in the books, which are few and far between. That being said, the reader interacts with Kim from Bella’s point of view. It’s entirely possible that Kim was quiet around Bella and didn’t interact with her frequently because she didn’t like Bella or her choices (who can blame her?).
In the end, I settled on introversion because it does seem that Kim is more introverted than Emily and some of the others around the pack. I also think that a slight or moderate introvert could be a nice balance for the extroversion and gregariousness that makes up a major part of Jared’s MBTI. Kim’s introversion would be represented in the traits of reflectiveness, being quietly caring, and enjoying intellectual stimulation.
Again, I see idealism as a fundamental part of Kim’s personality. Just like Emily, Kim was one of the first to experience being part of a bond that was formed by imprinting. While she may not have had the reservations about the imprinter like Emily, she definitely could have had worries about the safety of being around an imprint. Emily was the only other imprint around, and she had been permanently injured by Sam because she was around him in the wrong place at the wrong time. At the time that Kim met up with the pack, that wouldn’t have seemed like an outlier because it was the only example. To witness that situation and still be able to see a positive future for herself and Jared requires some idealism.
I liked that this particular MBTI grid that I’m working from mentioned being psychic as one of the traits for INFJ. Of course, this references the fact that Kim was head-over-heels for Jared before the imprint ever happened, and it was only once he changed that he felt the same way about Kim. I would be really interested to consider whether this was Kim sensing the imprint bond before Jared even could, or if it was some sort of premonition or even a combination of both.
I found that both Emily and Kim fit well into xNFJ categories. I think that is likely because regardless of introversion or extroversion, those types are very adept at keeping a positive vision for the future, taking active steps to make that future a reality, and supporting those around them. I think that just in general xNFJ types make imprints that fit really well with the group and manage to keep a positive attitude even in tough times.
Emily is definitely the imprint that we as readers know the most canon detail about from SM. I strongly believe that Emily is an ENFJ and anyone who disagrees can fIGHT ME.
Emily is charismatic. The pack contains many a strong will and strong personality, but Emily gets along with them as if they have been close friends for decades rather than a few months or years. She manages to be extraordinarily welcoming to any new members of the pack/imprints/interlopers in their world. Let us not forget how difficult that could be when her happiness and wellbeing is so tied to the pack - since the pack is her life. Having a new person around isn't just a small difference day-to-day. To have someone new around is to have a stranger invade every part of her life. To manage to be gracious and welcoming to all, even on days when she's tired, or not feeling well, or stressed out is a feat.
Emily is idealistic. I believe that she would have to be. Emily was the first person to experience being an imprintee. Remember that her perspective was that a man who, again, let us not forget was engaged to her cousin that she saw as a sister told her that he was deep in love with her and also could turn into a giant furry doggo. You would have to have some idealism and vision for the future to dive headfirst into this unexpected and unexplainable relationship and see a positive future for the two of you.
Emily is a persuasive talker. Emily is the defacto therapist for an entire group of awkward, hormone filled, impetuous teenage dog-men. And yet, she manages to deftly advise them on the best course of action for many of the problems that they face. She also manages to do this not by ordering them to do things like an angry parent, but by explaining her reasoning and walking the boys through her point of view.
Emily is organized. I mean you would have to be with all of those goofs running around your house. If you weren't you wouldn't even be able to function. Not to mention the organization that it would take to feed that group of teenagers (what sounds like daily in the canon) on a budget.
Emily values connections with people. This goes beyond her charisma. It's clear from every canon interaction that she has with any character that she genuinely has their best interest at heart whenever possible. It's clear that Emily genuinely values her ability to be a part of a community with members of the pack and others around her.
tl;dr: Emily is one of the best people to ever "join" the pack, and they should all be eternally grateful for the love and care that she has for the group, as well as the work she does to keep them fed and clothed.
After a semester hiatus, I’m back. I’m sorry about just disappearing over the winter but my classes got super real. I thought I was going to have a fairly easy going semester, and it required more time than I thought it would.
I’m back though, and I’m going to start my return with those imprint MBTI categorizations that I promised six months ago.
Look out for the first one to be posted tomorrow. I go full stan for Emily Young, who deserves every moment of it.
Also, while we’re doing housekeeping stuff - this month is PRIDE month! Where my fellow bisexuals at?
I am all for inclusive writing, and I fully believe that Twilight is a story full of LGBTQ+ characters. If you want to read a story about a queer/gay/bisexual Leah imprint, you can read one I wrote here. So, in summary
I'm back bitches
I promise that imprint MBTIs will be out starting tomorrow

It's nice to see y'all again through the internets
“Jacob. The way that I see it you have a choice. You can choose to be whatever you are with Bella - friends, fuckbuddies, whatever - or, you can choose to be my imprint. But if you choose me, you have to be the best damn imprint you can be. None of this half-ass shit you’ve been doing lately. If you choose me, you can be friends with Bella - but you have to put up some boundaries - no more keeping me out of that part of your life. If you choose me, you no longer get to skip out on me for her”, I said. The air between us was silent and still. I gave Jacob a moment to process what I had just said.
“I’m going to go inside. Think on this. Really think on it. I’ll respect what you choose, but you only get to make the choice once. After that, you have to stick with what you chose”, I said definitively, before looking up from staring at the view outside of the windshield and into his eyes. They were full of anger and frustration, but there was also a hint of sorrow, and I felt a pang in my heart. I really loved Jacob, but I needed him to love me back the way that I loved him.
“Drive safe Jake. Don’t have a motorcycle accident because you’re distracted by your thoughts”, I said quietly, before patting his shoulder, getting out of the car, and solemnly walking up the driveway and into my house.
Y/N’s words yesterday came to my mind again and again as I restlessly tossed and turned all night. Finally, I managed to catch some desperately needed sleep, though it was fitful.
“Jake! Jake!”, Quil and Embry called from outside, waking me up from my restless slumber.
“What’s up guys?”, I groggily asked them after answering the door. I sleepily led them into the living room.
“You missed breakfast at Emily’s”, Quil said incredulously, as he made himself comfortable on the sofa.
“Sam sent us to check on you. It’s not like you to miss pancakes, bacon, and eggs”, Embry said, answering my question.
“I had a rough night with Y/N after the patrol schedules were posted. She’s not too happy with me right now. It made it hard to sleep”, I answered tiredly.
“Why wouldn’t she be happy? You have the weekend off. You should be able to spend all weekend together”, Quil questioned.
“I promised to go to Face Punch with Bella in Port Angeles tonight. Then, we’re going to ride our bikes from here to Portland and back. Y/N is angry that I’m spending the time off with Bella”, I explained.
“You took a weekend off and didn’t plan to spend any time with your imprint at all? You should have expected to be in the doghouse”, Embry replied smartly.
“It’s not like that. I spend lots of time with Y/N. Bella needs a friend. I need to spend time with her too”, I said defensively.
“Jake, when was the last time you actually planned to spend time with Y/N? Not part of your routine, but chose a specific time to spend together ahead of time?”, Embry asked seriously.
“It’s been a few weeks, but we’ll have time. Right now, Bella is in crisis. She’s one of my oldest friends. I need to be there for her. Besides, this is none of your business anyways”, I answered, even more defensive than before.
“Just consider where Bella was when you needed her. Because I can guarantee that she wasn’t here. Y/N has always been here for you. Those are my observations”, Quil said straightforwardly. “We should go get ready for patrol”, Quil said, tapping Embry’s bicep as he spoke.
“Yes, you should go”, I said, my voice smoldering with anger.
Embry and Quil shared a look before they walked out of the house.
“I’m still hanging out with Bella tonight”, I hollered after them as they left.
“Hey Jake”, Bella greeted monotonously as she slid into my truck to go to Port Angeles.
“Hey Bells. How have you been?”, I asked, as I started the truck and made my way towards the highway.
“The same. You know”, Bella answered sadly. It seemed like she would never recover from her breakup with Edward. It had been months and she still felt no better than when he left.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I invited a guy from school to go with us. My friend Mike Newton. I think you may have met him on the beach once. He’s going to meet us in Port Angeles”, Bella said.
“Nah, no problem. The more the merrier”, I said, only half believing what I was saying. It was slightly upsetting that Bella didn’t ask me before inviting Mike. Maybe it was a sign that she was feeling better. Actively trying to socialize with others is better than how she had usually been acting.
“Is he a big action movie fan or something?”, I asked, trying to make conversation.
“No. I don’t think so. He asked me to go see a movie with him a while ago. He wanted to go see some cheesy rom-com. I think he kind of thought of it as a date. So I suggested that the three of us go see Face Punch instead”, Bella explained.
“Oh”, I said, trying to keep my tone even.
The rest of the night went off mostly without a hitch. Mike was catching something and ended up having a vomiting spell about a quarter of the way through the movie. We all decided to go back home after that; Mike because he was sick and Bella and I so that we could leave for Portland early the next morning.
“I just miss him so much”, Bella said out of nowhere when we were on the road back to Forks. It was the first full sentence she had said to me since we got to the movie theater.
“Who?”, I asked, confused about her thought that came out of nowhere.
“Edward. I just miss him so much. I’m starting to think that it’s never going to be okay”, Bella said morosely.
“Don’t say that”, I said comfortingly. “It just takes time”, I continued.
We spent the rest of the drive in a comfortable silence until we pulled up in front of Bella’s house.
“Thanks for the ride, Jake, and thanks for listening to my problems”, Bella said. “Tomorrow, we should think of something to do next weekend”, Bella declared.
“I can’t next weekend. I traded extra shifts next weekend for the time off this weekend. Sam’s going to have me so busy next weekend that I barely have time to sleep or eat”, I answered.
“Oh, maybe the weekend after”, Bella considered pensively.
“I need to spend some time with Y/N. She’s actually kind of upset that I have the whole weekend off and I don’t have any time to spend with her. I need to make that right”, I said, actually getting a chance to tell Bella about my life for the first time that night.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that she’s being difficult, I guess we’ll just have to think further out”, Bella stated. That statement hit a nerve with me. I don’t know if it was the imprint, or just myself finally coming to my senses.
“She’s not being difficult. She’s upset that I’ve been spending so much time with you, helping you, and I haven’t been putting the same effort into my relationship with her”, I said defensively.
“Don’t you see her all week at school and in the afternoons and evenings? That sounds difficult to me”, Bella doubled down on her previous statement.
“I think you need to back off”, I said heatedly.
“I’m just saying that it seems like a pattern, Jake. She always finds something about your relationship to be unhappy about. I mean you’re 16. It’s not like you need to be married to each other or anything”, Bella said flippantly.
“It’s the imprint. It makes it more serious”, I said stonily. “Besides, do you know the pattern that I observed?”, I asked Bella rhetorically. “I always do these kinds of things with you on the weekends. I blow off my other responsibilities and friends to hang out with you, and I always become your excuse. Tonight, I was your excuse to not go on a date with Mike. You were too uncomfortable to say no to Mike, so you just invited me instead. You didn’t even have the decency to tell me beforehand”, I spat out angrily, starting to shake.
I took a moment to focus on not phasing in the truck right next to Bella. When I had collected myself that much I continued.
“Bella you treat me like your therapist. You tell me all of your problems and hardships and you never ask me about how I am. You wouldn’t know about what happened with Y/N unless I had told you a moment ago. It’s an uneven dynamic. I’m always expected to be there for you, but whenever I need you, you’re conveniently indisposed. I think you need a therapist more than you need a friend”, I continued with my controlled anger.
“What does this mean Jacob?”, Bella asked, vulnerable.
“It means that I think I need some time to tend to my other responsibilities. I can’t ride bikes tomorrow”, I said crossly.
Bella nodded before hopping out of the truck.
I angrily put the car in drive and started winding my way back to La Push. For a long time, I had been hoping that I would be able to make these two parts of my life coexist, but it had become clear that was not an option. There really was only one option.
When I parked in front of my house, I took out my cell phone, not even waiting to go inside. I called Y/N’s cell phone number.
“Hello?”, she asked raspily, the sound of tears in her voice. My heart hurt at the image of her crying over my choices.
“I choose you. I miss you”, I said contentedly.
“Do you want to come over? We could just stay in and hang out, maybe watch something”, Y/N asked, relief in her tone.
“That sounds amazing. I’m so tired. Emotionally and physically”, I said happily.
“I don’t get why we can’t seem to be like we were over the summer”, I said to Emily, longingly, as she chopped ingredients for dinner and I looked through a photo album of Jake and me over the summer. We were so happy in the photos - strolling along cute little streets in Port Angeles, playing in the waves on the beach, and using sparklers to write things in the darkness on the Fourth of July. I sighed at easier times that had passed.
“He doesn’t mean to neglect you, Y/N”, Emily comforted me from the other side of the island in the kitchen. “Bella’s an old friend to him, and she’s going through a really rough time. I think he just doesn’t realize how much he’s leaving you alone to hang out with her”, Emily reasoned.
It was difficult becoming acquainted with Bella Swan - one of Jake’s oldest friends. When Jake imprinted on me this summer, she wasn’t around at all. According to Jake, she was having the time of her life with her ex-boyfriend, Edward. So, Jake and I spent the summer doing our own thing and hanging out with the pack and the other imprints. It was the best summer I had ever had.
Then, Edward dumped Bella. Sam had found her catatonic, in the middle of the woods, a day later. Jake started disappearing to comfort her all the time, which left me with almost no time with him myself. I felt bad for what happened to her, I really did. It still left me wondering why Bella becoming single affected our relationship so much, and what Jake actually did to comfort her. I had asked to hang out with them a few times, to be another friend to Bella, and Jake had always said no.
“He just needs some time to make sure Bella is okay. Then he’ll be back, and things will be mostly normal again”, Emily said, as she came around to the other side of the island and placed a caring hand on my shoulder. “Have you talked to him about how much time he’s spending with her?”, Emily asked
“I’ve tried, but he always takes what I’m saying into consideration and then slowly goes back to spending all of his time with her”, I answered quietly exasperated.
Then, our conversation turned to different topics; what was happening in school, town gossip, pack gossip. Eventually, Kim arrived from her art club meeting after school.
Soon after that, the guys arrived back from their afternoon patrol. They filtered into the house and sat down at the kitchen table based on how far away they were from the house on patrol. They all sat down patiently in front of a place setting waiting for everyone else to arrive. First came Jared, then Sam, then Paul, then Jake, and then Embry and Quil.
As soon as Jacob arrived, he gleefully strolled over to me, picked me up, and spun me around in a circle while hugging me. Then, he placed me down on the ground and walked me over to two spots at the dinner table. For a moment, it felt like this summer had never ended.
It was a boisterous meal, full of jokes and playful insults. But that’s the way that hanging out with the pack always was. They had a rambunctious happiness that was impossible not to fall into yourself if you were around them for too long.
After dinner, Kim and I helped the guys load up the dishwasher and clean up the kitchen. Sam had gone to the front room to work on the patrol schedule for the weekend, and Emily was sitting and chatting with us while we cleaned up.
When the dishes were all in the dishwasher, and the kitchen was clean, the boys hung around chatting for a while longer waiting for Sam to post the weekend patrol schedule.
“No. No way. Paul beats Quentin every time”, Jared argued playfully. The guys were arguing about whether or not Paul could take on the most popular Senior boy at La Push High School. Paul happened to have been sneaking around with Quentin’s girlfriend, and Quentin had just found out.
“I’m not so sure. Quentin’s pretty big, and he’s on the football team. He knows how to drop a guy or two”, Embry argued cautiously. Paul, who was listening to the guys’ argument, appeared to be mildly offended that Embry would pick Quentin over him.
“Dude. You’re forgetting about the part where Paul can turn into a big-ass wolf at will. No way Quentin stands a chance”, Quil argued. He appeared to think he’d just made the best point there was to make.
“At will? Psh. Paul phases at the drop of a pin”, Jacob added. Quil’s facial expression looked as if to say duh. Paul looked annoyedly at Jacob for pointing out his lack of willpower.
“Besides, in this kind of fight, turning into a big-ass wolf is a handicap for Paul. He can’t phase in front of a huge group of high school kids. The pack’s secret would be out”, Jacob astutely pointed out, causing Quil to look slightly defeated by Jake’s logic.
“I still take Paul”, Jared said. “Dude’s got a fire in him that is unmatched”, Jared continued. Paul puffed out his chest again at this opinion.
“Hey, chuckleheads! The weekend schedule is up”, Sam announced, joking slightly, and motioning towards a corkboard in the living room that now had a new schedule posted on it with multi-colored tacks.
“And Paul - don’t fight Quentin. Jake’s right”,Sam said. Paul looked slightly defeated but was quickly distracted by figuring out what shift he had that weekend.
I gathered my stuff while Jake checked out his patrol shifts for the weekend. Soon, Jake met me by the back door so that he could drive me back home after dinner.
“Thanks, Emily!”, I said as we got ready to leave.
“Yeah, great dinner Em!”, Jake said as we both walked through the back door.
“So what days are you working this weekend?”, I asked as Jake and I got into the car and he started it.
“Oh, actually I’m not working at all this weekend. I bribed Sam with extra time next weekend for extra time off this weekend”, Jacob said.
“That’s great!”, I said happily. “Is there something you want to do? Just chill?”, I asked, glad to finally have a full weekend with Jake.
“Oh, actually, I promised Bella that I would hang out with her. We’re going to hang out in Port Angeles, and see that new movie, Face Punch on Saturday. And then on Sunday, I said that I’d take the bikes out with her. We’re trying to take them all the way to Portland and back, really test how well they perform for longer trips”, Jacob said, while parking in front of my house.
“Oh”, I said, trying to hide my deflated expectations. It was silly of me to expect that he’d have a whole weekend off and not spend time with Bella. I paused for a moment, hoping he’d invite me along with him, at least to the Port Angeles part.
“I hope that’s okay. She just really needs a friend right now”, Jacob said imperceptively.
“Oh, yeah it’s okay. I understand. What’s the point of having an imprint if he doesn’t ditch you for some other girl every chance he has? That’s the best part for Kim and Emily too”, I said icily, the anger spilling out of my mouth faster than I could control it.
“Hey! Don’t make me out to be the bad guy about this. You know that she needs a friend right now!”, Jacob raised his voice angrily.
“I have offered to be a friend. Several times. And every time I offer, you turn me down. This isn’t about friends, this is about you ditching me and expecting me to just be okay with it!”, I seethed back to Jake.
“She’s really vulnerable right now! And she doesn’t know you that well”, Jake argued back.
“When did you become so damn cynical?”
“When you stopped looking.”
“Hey, Jake. What were you up to this afternoon?“ Billy Black genially asked as Jacob stepped into the warm house from the crisp air of the fall evening fading slowly into night.
“Just hanging out with Quil. We mostly hung out at his house. We did some homework”, Jacob replied, lying about the homework bit.
“Rebecca called again this afternoon”, Billy noted, as Jacob’s mood quickly soured.
“Oh?”, Jacob replied tersely to his father.
“She was hoping that you’d be home. You should call her sometime, at your convenience”, Billy gently nagged his sixteen-year-old son as Jacob petulantly rolled his eyes.
“If she really wanted to talk to me, she knows where to find me”, Jacob replied icily before collecting his stuff to leave the living room with his backpack in tow. He had a lot of geometry homework to do, and he wanted to just get it done.
“Jacob - just call her. Please. Do it for me”, Billy gently pleaded.
Jacob simply nodded his head once before leaving for his bedroom.
When he arrived in his room, Jacob sullenly turned on the lamp over his desk and got to work on his geometry homework. Later, when he had finished that, he started in on his English Literature assignment - reading the next chapter of The Great Gatsby. Finally, Jacob turned out the light above his desk. Immediately, the room was flooded with darkness.
The next afternoon, Jacob found himself walking towards the school parking lot with no after-school plans. Jacob had always spent the time in between school and dinner with Quil and Embry. The three had been inseparable, up until a few months ago.
Then, Embry had fallen into the wrong crowd and joined Sam Uley’s crew. Embry had missed school for a month and then came back looking completely different and sporting a new tattoo. Now, Embry spent all of his time with Sam Uley, Jared Cameron, and Paul Lahote. Some people called them a gang, some people called them a clique, some particularly uptight people were convinced that they were running an organized crime syndicate.
Since Embry’s entry into Sam’s group, Jacob had split his afternoons between Bella and Quil. However, Bella had recently sunken deeper into her despondency since Edward left. It seemed that the only hobby she was interested in now was staring blankly out of the bay window in her room; looking at nothing in particular and thinking or speaking of nothing in particular either.
Quil was busy this afternoon. He had decided that he would try out for the La Push High basketball team, even though he admitted that he knew he had no chance of making a spot on the team. Jacob, having no interest in watching his friend humiliate himself, decided to pass on watching the tryouts.
Normally, Jake may have decided to attend such an event, just so that he could lightheartedly tease Quil about how badly it went sometime in the future. But, all day today, Sam, Paul, Jared, and Embry had been staring at him. They had been doing the same thing since just after Embry came back. It almost seemed as if they were waiting for something - but Jake had no idea what. If they were waiting for him to confront Embry about mysteriously ditching him and Quil, they’d be waiting a long time. Jacob wasn’t going to fight over Embry. He had proved the kind of friend that he was.
As he walked toward his truck, Jake decided that he might as well take his dad’s advice and give his sister a call. It felt like pretty much everyone was slowly fading out of his life - Embry, Quil, Bella - he might as well not push his sister out as well. Plus, his dad would stop nagging him to call Rebecca, which made the call worth it in and of itself.
“Finally returning my calls, huh?”, Rebecca jovially chided as she answered the phone.
“Hi Becks”, Jacob answered, using the family’s pet name.
“Dad said that you were gone yesterday afternoon? How are Quil and Embry?”, Rebecca asked jokingly, unknowingly hitting an uncomfortable topic. Jacob shuddered at the truth that he should have been with Quil and Embry yesterday.
“Just Quil. Embry’s been weird lately. Quil’s good. He’s trying out for the basketball team this afternoon”, Jacob answered Rebecca’s question sullenly.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that Jake”, Rebecca said sincerely.
“So what’s got you so interested in talking on the phone? You’ve been calling pretty much every day”, Jacob interrogated his sister.
“Well, I’ve already talked to Dad and Rachel about this, but I wanted you to hear it from me instead of from them”, Rebecca prepped, before pausing for a moment to let it sink in. “I’m not going to come home for the holidays this year. It’s such a long trip from Hawaii to there, and Solomon has a surfing competition that he could compete in the day after Christmas. There’s a good chance he could win that one”, Rebecca said trying to be delicate with her word choice.
The line was silent for a moment.
“That’s not really much of a surprise, Becks. You haven’t been back here for a holiday since Mom passed”, Jacob replied defeatedly. “I’m not sure why you thought that would be a surprise to me”, Jacob continued.
“Wow, okay. Take the righteous indignation down a notch Jacob”, Rebecca said, offense in her voice. “I know that you’re going through a rough time right now, but you still have no right to say things like that”, Rebecca admonished her adolescent brother.
“Things like that are the truth”, Jacob muttered bitterly. Rebecca chose to ignore it, and instead try to change the topic to a lighter subject.
“So how’s Bella Swan been recently? Dad said that you restored two old motorcycles with her”, Rebecca said, trying to change the subject to something less terse for Jacob.
“I don’t know, probably silently staring out a window somewhere”, Jacob snapped. Clearly, Rebecca had stepped into something, but she didn’t know what. She didn’t dare ask either.
“I’m sorry things have been difficult lately, Jacob”, Rebecca said, sad that her brother was having to confront the worst parts of adolescence.
“Difficult is just the way the world is, I guess”, Jacob said flippantly, devoid of emotion.
“Wow, when did you become so damn cynical?”, Rebecca chided, not really expecting an answer.
“When you stopped looking”, Jacob responded bitterly.
“Okay, I’d like to remind you that I’m the one that’s been trying to get in contact with you for the past month. You were the one ignoring me”, Rebecca scoffed, anger seeping into her voice.
“It’s been good talking to you, Becks”, Jacob said indifferently, before hanging up. That did not go the way he wanted.
I think that after the pack realized how common imprinting was, they would all be waiting for their imprints. Like, it would go from a question of “If” to “when”. I think this would prompt all of those not imprinted before the end of Breaking Dawn not to date anyone seriously unless they were their imprint.
I could see friends with benefits relationships being okay, but I think a lot of the guys would feel guilty about dating a girl knowing that one day their feelings would change at the drop of a hat. I think this is an especially poignant thing for them considering that they’ve seen Leah’s experiences from a first-hand perspective.
Enjoying spending time with another introvert who gets it, and is not always draining your social battery
Him being super shy when you first meet, but in a really endearing way. Your first conversation was kinda awkward but really cute.
The pack teasing him a little for being so shy around you in the beginning.
At first, you were really defensive of him about this with the pack. When you first heard the pack teasing him, you readily came to his defense and started shaming them about their teasing. That is until you realized that the pack teases everyone about everything.
So now you get teased for being so ready to defend Embry.
Taking day trips to Port Angeles to visit the bookstore and a coffee shop with Embry and just . . . chill.
Lowkey, I see Embry as a creative type. That boy does something as an outlet for his thoughts & emotions. Like he writes or bakes or something creative, and you encourage him to pursue it further because it just makes him so happy.
Embry cooking a nice dinner for the two of you once or twice a week because he really likes cooking and he likes to cook for you. It always tastes amazing, and tbh you find it really attractive.
Embry being surprised by the fact that you want to go cliff diving with the pack.
