Titles

Here's a piece about an interesting parallel between Kai and Nya that I found: how they react to titles.

Nya:

She hates depending on other people and is always trying to be as independent as possible, so she firmly rejects any label or title she's given. And even if she doesn’t necessarily hate most of them, she still wants to be more than that. She refuses to fit into a box when she's actually so much more. She wants to be perceived as her full self and not only the parts of her that are convenient for other people.

Kai:

Kai's self-esteem is very fragile, so when he gets a title that tells him he's valuable, he latches onto it. He craves validation and a label marking him as "good enough" is perfect for that. I believe this is also one of the reasons he was so obsessed with the Green Ninja.

Kai also uses those titles as a shield, a façade to hide his true emotions. Even if they might not be entirely true, he will adapt to fit into each specific box. After all, if he shows people exactly what they believe, they won't bother looking deeper and so they won't notice the weakness and ugliness beneath the mask.

Although as a final note I have to mention that a lot of Nya's titles are demeaning because of misogyny while all of Kai's are empowering.

Both of them have issues with showing vulnerability but while Nya uses her "perfect" image and independence to push people away, Kai tricks them into believing a mask.

ANYWAY, regarding SWAP Kai and his view in this post:

As Kai was without an element, he was a little bit insecure about it no matter how much "cooler" stuff he could do or make. When others tend to train with their powers, he just couldn't help but envy them in his deepest core. I mean come on! Even Lloyd was an elemental master now! Why is Kai excluded?

That wish instantly died down when he found out about his water element though lmao

Earlier was thinking of how Jay has similar humor to Ryland Grace and then how at some point they both lost their memories and how they're both REALLY smart (academically at least) and then my brain went to the movie scene with Grace knowing specifically what a scanning electron microscope (SEM) is and is like "Why do I know that? Am I smart!?" And I just imagined Rogue having a similar scene when he's first picked up by the administration

And then also how they both have been repeatedly used as a tool, constantly used as something easily disposed and how they seem to get betrayed by those they thought they could trust (Ryland vs Jay who's lost his memories) and then finally finding someone they can trust and staying with them finally and their memory coming back in the time they're with them (except Rogue basically, kinda, immediately git his memories back which annoys me a bit)

Just a lot of similarities to be honest and I really love it as a Ryland Grace and Jay fan and as someone who stole both their names and I think they'd be friends if they met

So...we can all agree that Lloyd just has the strangest situation specific training days right? Like he has the New Ninja practice combat in rollar skates, and all of the kids are like super confused because, when are they ever going to fight in rollar skates.

And Lloyd fully remembering the maniac psycho that is Master Chen, just says, "Since Kai's lack of ability nearly got us killed while fighting his almost father-in-law."

More then once he's made a lesson about the importance, of never opening mysterious tombs without proper supervision! "Already done it twice! The first time was only mostly okay, but it took years for that, and the less said about the second the better."

He has the kids spar and makes them hash out petty grievances while doing it, so they get used to talking while fighting. Because - "You never know when you have to talk down a corrupted team mate while they're mind-controlled and trying to kill you."

History lessons have this underlying tone of - "You need to know this one the off chance that you some how time-travel. It is more likely then you think."

Ninja get invited to something? - "Alright, how many weapons did you manage to hide in your formal wear? No, I'm not upset that you tried, it's actually good forward thinking, I'm disappointed you couldn't bring more."

Zane dies again - "Oh, don't worry he'll be back. Death sort of a 50/50 thing with us in general. You'll likely do it at least once in your ninja careers."
