Okay so imagine this. Everyone knows that the Coruscant guards are mistreated by the senate and the public. And they don’t have anyone to protect them or ensure they get supplies or medical care. Some concerned Coruscanti citizens noticed a trooper on patrol one day, far too young to be deployed, carrying his helmet in his hand, limping, and staring off into the distance with the saddest, wettest tooka eyed expression they had ever seen. It was the type of heartbroken look that could only be outmatched by those holo-commercials of sad shelter animals looking for love and a home, while dramatically sad music played.
Sneaky photographers captured holopics of injured and starved troopers on their patrols. Take those photos, add some heart-wrenching music, and bam! Before long, Coruscant’s biggest holo-tv channels were being bombarded with the new commercials, telling viewers that for only 20 credits a month, they can sponsor one of these poor troopers with a care package of ration bars, medical supplies, and perhaps an encouraging message. Kind hearted donors could give 100 credits a month and give blankets, pillows, and recreational items to make sure their sponsored troopers are warm and happy. In return, donors can receive a picture of their sponsored trooper with their name and CT number.
Sponsoring Coruscant guards became a wildly popular way of showcasing people’s support for the republic war effort. People would often ask to sponsor specific soldiers they saw on patrol or on holotelevision. Commander Fox has at least 15 sponsors. Many of the littler troopers have gotten adoption requests from mandalorians living on Coruscant. Turns out their big sad tooka eyes were impossible to resist. Especially our young trooper, who was the first to receive an adoption request. The guard allowed it.
