Well! It’d just be irresponsible not to add Mara’s story in here. So Mara Cash is a middle aged woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married her husband, Wayne Allgaier, when she was 20 due to an unexpected pregnancy. They have a daughter, Izzy, and they live relatively decent lives until about 10 years later. Mara and Wayne’s relationship was never good, they got married like 6 months after they started dating. They stuck it out for Izzy for a while, but Mara was found to be cheating on Wayne with several women. So ensues a messy divorce in which Wayne kept custody of Izzy and made an arrangement where she was very rarely allowed her to see her mom. After the divorce, Mara just sort of… ran away. She fucked off to a town called Dauphin and drank and smoked her pain away. Over the 9ish years she spent there, watching Izzy grow up from afar, Mara became a trusted local mechanic, someone shops could send you to for problems they couldn’t fix. It was there that she met Annie, and the two started their weird situationship thing. Eventually, Annie is attacked by vampires and has to explain everything to Mara. It’s there that stuff starts to click. Over the past couple of years, Mara has noticed something was… off with Wayne. He had stopped letting her visit Izzy entirely, he was only able to be communicated with at night, and what few mutual friends they still had reported that he had basically disappeared from their lives. So, Mara and Annie pack up her ‘79 Camaro and jet down to Winnipeg. When they get there that night, the house is still. Quiet. They enter and find Wayne, who is praying at the altar of a god Mara doesn’t recognize (it’s Set). He attacks immediately upon noticing them, and Annie gets a lucky shot off and paints the ceiling with the fucker’s brains. They search the house for Izzy, and are unable to find her until Mara notices the door to the basement has multiple locks on it. Annie shoots the door and they break in, rushing down to the basement to find an awful sight. Multiple Kindred blood bags, staked through the heart, and Izzy among them. Mara, feeling no pulse, removes the stake from her daughter’s chest. Izzy springs to life, and the first face she sees upon awakening from her father’s grave betrayal is that of the mother who left her. In a blood frenzy, she tears into Mara, ripping apart her chest and neck before Annie is able to unload a couple shots, not enough to kill Izzy, but enough to drive her away, out into the night. In the aftermath, Annie is barely able to keep Mara alive until EMS arrives. Mara wakes up days later in the hospital, her neck and chest horribly scarred. After that, she and Annie decide to search for Izzy. Mara isn’t sure exactly why. She wants to explain herself, to earn forgiveness, to get her daughter back. And so, they chase her across North America until the present day (2003), where they’ve managed to track her to Sacramento.
