Hey wow so you know how Sokka loses all his weapons over the course of the series (not just his boomerang and space sword in the final episode, but also his spear, machete, club…) and how he slowly leans into working as the group’s planner? You ever think about how he physically and literally loses the ideals that were keeping him tied to seeing his worth in the war, and began to see himself as his own person who could survive this war & live in a better world? How he let go of his toxic masculinity and started to embrace himself as he was, but he had to use those weapons in his own creative, non-destructive way, and eventually he lost them entirely? How he helped the war effort through creation, by making plans & traps & inventions & armor, not by destroying things? You ever think about how he replaced his sword with a paintbrush in the final scene? You ever… you ever…
Robin bans Steve, for a week, from talking about the girls he goes on dates with after a long rant that somehow crossed beyond the boundaries of too much information.
At first, Steve’s fine, but after day three, he’s scrambling to find someone to talk to who isn’t Robin, his ex, or a child. And that’s how he ends up at Eddie’s place.
Eddie is a bit confused, but lets Steve in immediately and stops what he’s doing to listen to the word vomit - mainly about the recent kisses he’s had. Steve stops ranting when Eddie looks lost.
“What?” Steve asks.
Eddie twirls a piece of hair around his finger and replies, “I just don’t get how all these kisses could be so different.”
Which launches Steve into another rant trying to perfectly describe each kiss: “Her lips were like tense as if she didn’t want to kiss me… she had a bit too much enthusiasm if you get what I mean. You don’t. Okay. She licked my actual lips before we started making out… she kissed me just weird, man, I don’t know how to explain it…”
Eventually Eddie stops Steve and says, “Please stop. Why don’t you just show me?”
And Steve stares at Eddie for a moment and then he leans in and kisses him awkwardly tensely. And once Steve pulls away, he says, “That was Melissa.”
And before Eddie can explain that he meant Steve should show him on his hand or by kissing the fucking air, Steve is kissing him again explaining who kissed like that.
Eddie’s mind is spinning and he suddenly says between kisses, “And how did you kiss them?”
And Steve suavely cups Eddie’s jaw and runs a finger over his cheekbone, drawing him in and gently kissing him and hesitating only a moment when Eddie doesn’t respond. When he does kiss him back, Steve immediately deepens the kiss.
When they pull away, Steve pants against Eddie’s mouth and rests their foreheads together. After a long moment, Eddie dumbly asks, “And which kiss was your favorite?”
Without hesitation, Steve answers, “That one,” and seems as equally shocked by the response as Eddie is.
Eddie pulls back to look Steve in the eye and asks, “Would you like to make that your second favorite kiss?”
Steve nods right away, and Eddie kisses him again.
After this, Robin complains that she should’ve clarified that Steve isn’t allowed to go on tmi rants about the girls or guys he dates. While simultaneously trying to claim that she set them up.
We all love the "becoming the very thing you sought to destroy," trope. but I have a growing fondness for "destroying the very thing you sought to become"
it’s like. sokka says he doesn’t know what his mother looks like but throws himself in front of katara time and time again. he comes up with plans and tries to lead armies but inspires and loves and guides five kids without parents instead. he’s creative and funny and goofy and so so so full of love. and katara says that she’s been doing all the work around camp since mom died but all she wants is to learn how to fight. she’s angry at her dad for abandoning her but stands in front of a group of hopeless earthbenders and attempts to rally them with a speech. she tries and tries to be soft but ends up blowing up a factory to save the enemy. sokka wants to be his father but carries his mother’s heart. katara feels like she has to be her mother but has her father’s fight.
Having Zukka betrothal armband thoughts. The idea that they can hold more than one stone. The record of attempts to get it perfect, from halting chips and rough designs to increasing confidence and the idea that this progression of skill also follows a progression of love and deepening of their bond, and that it is proudly displayed and cherished. The idea that it doesn't have to stop just with a proposal. That stones could be exchanged around major life moments, and also just around major emotional moments--when you are feeling overwhelmed by love for your partner, for the shape the relationship has taken as your lives change. Armbands as a record not just of commitment but of changing and evolving love, of two hearts saying over and over they want to walk together.
