I am left with no choice, but to create an empire from these ruins within me.

It’s fight, flight or FREEZE. Not fight or flight. In fact in terms of likelihood it’s freeze, flight or fight. Everytime you say ‘fight or flight’ and ignore the freeze you feed victim blaming. The number of times I asked myself 'why didn’t I fight or run then? I must have wanted it’. Freeze people, Freeze. Never forget the freeze.
Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right and forget the ones who don’t. Remember, too, that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. No-one said it would be easy. They only said it would be worth it - and it is!

Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real.

be shocked about everyday acts of racism. Kick up a stink about small incidents of sexual harassment. Be unapologetically indignant about the use of homophobic slurs. Apathy is complicity. It is a dangerous stance to take.
We are like children building a sand castle. We embellish it with beautiful shells, bits of driftwood, and pieces of colored glass. The castle is ours, off limits to others. We’re willing to attack if others threaten to hurt it. Yet despite all our attachment, we know that the tide will inevitably come in and sweep the sand castle away. The trick is to enjoy it fully but without clinging, and when the time comes, let it dissolve back into the sea.

I won’t lie to you. There are days when I still want to die. Days when I feel like my life is not worth it, like maybe this world would be better off without me. Those are the days I feel like shit and when I feel it’s getting bad again. Days when I feel that I’m losing the battle I was so proud of winning, the most important fight I will ever participate. The fight for my life and my happiness. But that is exactly why I don’t give up when my head keeps telling me I should- I deserve a life of happiness. I deserve the feeling I know someday I will get… the feeling that you are blessed with if you are strong enough not to give up before it comes your way. So, yeah, I have bad days. A lot of bad days. But I prefer to think of them as my personal battle days: when I have to stay strong for myself, when I have to save me, when I have to remind me that I deserve the kind of happiness I will have if I continue to live. And that’s my advice for anyone struggling with the same fight I am- don’t give up because I’m sure you’ll be rewarded for not doing it, for not choosing the easiest way, for being so brave. Please be brave and know your happiness is coming.

this is not how it ends, not for me. I have coffee to drink, stories to write, laughs to have and smiles to share. no amount of suffering can take that from me. I have more to give.

I despise my own hypersensitiveness, which requires so much reassurance. It is certainly abnormal to crave so much to be loved and understood.

I gave myself permission to feel and experience all of my emotions. In order to do that, I had to stop being afraid to feel. In order to do that, I taught myself to believe that no matter what I felt or what happened when I felt it, I would be okay.
