He might not have known Malia for as long as he had known many of the other people that were a part of Scott’s pack, but in the short time that they had known each other, he liked to think that he could read her pretty well. She wasn’t used to being able to rely on anyone else, and expressing the emotions that came along with that was awkward for her. He knew that. And he could be wrong, but that sounded like her way telling him that she might be worried about it, or maybe even a little scared.

Reaching out for her, he grabbed ahold of her hands with each of his own as if to remind her that she wasn’t alone anymore. “I’m not gonna leave you.” He told her as another reminder that whatever happened, they could deal with it together.

Malia often spoke literally as she saw the expression of emotions as something that wasn’t needed.  There was a full moon and it was going to be tough.  Those were the facts and getting through it was her main focus.  Worry, fear, those were names that could be given to what she was feeling.  She just didn’t feel the need to give it the power of a name. 

 As always, she was afraid of hurting people.  Especially Stiles.  Her eyes dropped down to their hands grasping at one another.  “No, no, Stiles.  That’s what I’m trying to tell you.  I don’t want you with me this time.  I want you at home, safe.  Do your homework or something.”

A stupid, and oddly pleased with himself, grin started to pull at his lips as he looked at her. His eyes widened with the question that he almost forgot to say out loud. “Oh yeah?” Was he the hot girl now?! “I like to think that I’ve always been a little heroic, you know in a behind the scenes, please don’t break my legs kind of way.” He was on the verge of rambling on about why Robin was important when he saw the way she was looking at him. “I’m going to stop talking now.” He nodded as he leaned in close to her.

“Yeah, I like it,” she nodded.  Her nodding continued as he rambled as she thought about how cute he was.  She was getting impatient to kiss him so as soon as he said he was going to stop talking, her lips were crashing towards his.

As per usual, there was too much going on for him to be able to keep up, but her warning was pretty clear. “Well, that’s unfortunate.” He didn’t have any desire to go looking for someone who wanted to see him dead, but he didn’t want Malia doing it either. They might not have spoken much since the break up, but his talks with Scott had filled him in on what he needed to know. “Malia.” He called after her as she turned to walk away, but before he could stop her she was reaching for his hand. “She’s here, isn’t she?”

“She was.  I looked away for just a second--” she trailed off as she tried to listen for a safe path to get out of the school.  He didn’t need to know the details of what her mom had said.  Once she got him home, she would feel a little better about his wellbeing.  “I’ll check your house before I leave,” she told him like she was more of a bodyguard than an ex-girlfriend.

A hint of sadness and just the slightest bit of guilt about Kira stir inside him at Malia’s words. Malia hadn’t been around much at the time Allison had died, but he was sure that she had picked up on her importance to all of them. Scott and Lydia, especially. “Yes. Even when we broke up, I never really stopped loving her,” he admits after brief silence. She wasn’t wrong about Kira either, though he does love her too. Allison had been his first real love though and to this day, she continued to hold a special place in his heart. Sometimes it was overwhelming with how much he missed her, and he wondered if he’d either truly move on. “I don’t think I’ll ever really stop either.”

She didn’t understand the need for guilt.  The facts were the facts.  Even Kira was likely to know she was second choice.  She looked over to where Stiles, Lydia, and Kira were just a few feet away.  Sometimes, she wondered if Lydia had Stiles’s heart.  If she was, like Kira, second choice.  But Stiles was her one and she liked to think he felt the same way about her.  “I’m sorry for your loss,” she spoke, parroting what she had been taught to say.  “At least she died as a hero.  Stiles told me how she died.  How she saved everyone because she was smart and figured out how to beat them.”

Turning toward the voice from the doorway, her voice, Peter wasn’t fully convinced he could trust her: that could be genetic. She was owed some revenge, after all. Still, he had no time to doubt her, but gathering the strength to stand and follow her out was another matter. “I’ll provide a list later, sweetheart, right now, just help me,” he snapped back with an impatience that rivaled hers. He was in this condition because of the horrors of this prison, and he wasn’t about to run out of time and get stuck. His hand extended out for his daughter to take, he nodded, a fair trade for his escape, “Get me out and we’ll kill her together.”

She didn’t trust her father and after his stunt against Scott a few months ago, she didn’t really like him either.  However, if anyone was going to be able to help her face the Desert Wolf, it was him.  She knew it and he knew it.  

However, she could sense that he didn’t trust her much either.  If she believed he felt fear, she might have called it that -- of what he experienced here or of her she wasn’t sure.  "That’s what I’m doing,” she said matter-of-factly.  Helping him up, she began to help him through Eichen House.  With each step, she thought about her mother.  “You will kill her, right?  She won’t change your mind?” she asked, slowing down in hesitation.

Malia nudged Stiles as they stood in front of her biological father in his apartment (not wolf den as Stiles had joked to her on the way there that earned him a look.  “What is wrong with a den?” she had asked).  “Thank you for inviting us to dinner,” she prompted his manners like he always did to her.  Having dinner with Peter wasn’t exactly anyone’s idea of fun but he was her father and she wanted to know him.
