Remember how I said Quil learned they were a good liar? Yeah, the weird buildings in the void? Exact copy of the college they went to. So there was some lying done so Quil could get information from Tye without the biases, so we ALSO learned that Tye trusts Quil implicitly. About Everything. (This is deeply distressing to Quil)
Along with all that, Quil and Tye continue to develop their relationship! Tye (who we learned was an owlin [and who I really want to see in that sexy book armor @worldsmostmehdm]) helps Quil climb up a bell tower with lots of wrist holding and a ridiculous amount of tension in that room as Tye explains how nice it's been to have Quil around these last few weeks, while jury-rigging said bell tower.
So... the bartender Quil shot after deceiving them during the duel? Died, froze out in the cold. The party immediately goes to Quil to be like "Quil you're smart what do you think happened?"
Anyways, today we learned Quil is a very good liar. They are not as excited about this as presumably most people would be.
So, recently my brain has unfortunately been infested by @worldsmostmehdm's campaign. So we're getting an official character summary from your's truly because I need someone else to maybe get brainworms.
Quil -
A brief overview of the character. Quil is currently a Level 8 Lore college bard. Attending Regalia's college and working on their PHD in history. Quil, over the years of attending has learned five additional languages, three instruments, sword fighting, and how to wield/shoot a gun. They have top marks in all their classes, and are essentially, a dream student, primarily out of a deep seated fear of not performing well. They're on the college's very exclusive practical experience semester. It is the last thing Quil needs to do before they graduate. The practical experience includes a long list of tasks that mostly exist for worldbuilding, that they will complete and then write a paper on (a paper that I am actually writing).
Family -
Quil grew up in upstate New York in what's set as basically the nineteen twenties. They have two loving parents and three siblings. Despite being the middle child, they are the highest leveled within their family and thus the pressure of continuing the family legacy falls to them.
Quil's parents care deeply about their reputation, and despite having three very successful children, plus the newest child, there's still a drive for more. Because of Quill's success, any apparent struggle is seen as failure, more than that, it's seen as a disappointment, a waste of the expensive and lengthy education their parents put them through. That's obviously enough to give anyone issues.
Quil's siblings are lovely, while there's an innate struggle in this household for success and power and reputation, there's still a very strong bond between their siblings. Their oldest brother (32) is a level five war mage, and their younger sister (21) is a level three divination wizard currently enrolled in a wizard college. They write frequent letters to each other, and are generally good natured siblings. The youngest, who Quil has only really been around a couple of times is a wild magic sorcerer (8).
Despite having a relatively lovely life, Quil is a deeply, deeply lonely person. This is primarily brought on by their lack of close non-family friends and desperate need to prove themselves worthy.
The Horrors -
Quil originally joined the party out of worry for the safety of the party and desire to avoid the blood they would feel was on their hands had they left them to do something truly stupid, like break into the mob's headquarters. They stayed because it is much safer to do the practical experience class with a party, given that one of the requirements is to have someone close to you die and be brought back so they can explain their fugue plane.
Since then, they've investigated the destruction of Queens, where they met the finest ethical quandary ever, Tye. Tye is the twelve foot tall British amnesic that I have lost sleep over. While I've made a post about him and the ethical dilemma of his and Quil's relationship, I'll rehash the big points here. Tye lives inside a book that was found in the crater of Queens. Seeking to maybe better understand the disaster, Quil touched the book in the epicenter of what was basically a crater of a magical nuke (very smart, yes). Inside the book, they met a twelve foot tall void being that apparently, had once been human, and had lost all his memories. Desperate for a way out, Tye begs for Quil to take the book with them, so maybe they could chat more as he remembers things or so that, once they trust each other enough, free him. Quil lies and says they'll bring him... unfortunately that did not stay a lie for long. Quil now spends every long rest in the book chatting with Tye, who appears to have a more solid grasp on reality when Quil's around. And this seems to be helping Quil who is just SO desperate to not have to be "Quil the successful child" or "Quil the top student" or even "Quil the party magic historian". For brief moments of the day, they can simply be Quil.
HOWEVER Tye and Quil will never be able to work, because of ethics. Tye can never truly reciprocate feelings for Quil while he is in the book, because the feelings Tye has cannot be distinguished between feelings FOR Quil and feelings caused by feeling more whole and complete in your memories. Quil is Tye's first human contact in hundreds of years, meaning a relationship between the one person you can interact with, is deeply deeply unethical. If Tye gets his memories back, but remains trapped in the book, Quil is still the only human contact Tye is receiving even if he can remember himself again. Still unethical. if Tye is released without his memories, Quil is still his savior, and that's not a dynamic you can really build a relationship on. If you give him his memories and release him, well... Quil might've unleashed an ancient evil and now they lose points on their thesis.
NOW - they are a potential part of a prophecy - which they only found out by fighting a bunch of magical librarians to the death - , that claims that the party can save the world by defending an artifact located within Regalia college. The prophecy includes every party member but has been torn before Quil can be mentioned, Quil is the only one notably absent. The prophecy pertains to another party member's mother (Regalia, yes like the college) who they saw in a vision after they died to the librarians, saying that the book was an important part of the puzzle, and by ripping up the prophecy Regalia had done a good thing. By ripping the prophecy it also deliberately excludes what Quil is supposed to do with Tye. So, our DM is making us work for it.
Because Quil witnessed a death today, they plan to go to the void and have a panic attack and cry because the only person who can see them vulnerable is Tye, and Tye has no other human contact and won't be able to tell anyone how unstable they're feeling right now, with the bonus of if they leave him alone long enough he'll forger - which while deeply unethical, really highlights exactly how desperate Quil's need to appear put together for the sake of their family's reputation is. It also highlights just how dependent Tye is on Quil, and vice versa. I accidentally created a codependent relationship with an NPC.

Quil is once again involved in the plot. They are going to make it everyone’s problem and fuck it, they will come out the other side covered in blood holding a gun in one hand, and their eldritch entity’s hand in the other. And by god, will they commit magical war crimes if it means they finally, finally get their phd.
