Workplace Equality
Men are often treated better than women in the workplace, whether that be wages or basic respect all humans deserve men always get treated better. Why is that? We’re all human and deserve to be treated the same. What needs to be done in order to stop this from continuing? This blog is to help people understand workplace inequality and how we can put an end to it.
It’s been like this for a long time and the worst part about it is that it seems like things won’t be getting better regardless of all the people who have spoken out against this. Gender inequality in the workplace is common. People don’t truly understand how bad it really is. There are a lot of statistic that prove that gender inequality is probably at its highest point in today current society
·    1 in 4 women experience sexual harassment in the world place which is 25% of women who work.
·    Women of colour represent around 50% percent of low wage workers.
·    3 in 4 of women who are sexually assaulted experience some sort of retaliation by their abusers after reporting sexual harassment at work.
I think a good step forward would be copying what Iceland has going on, they are ranked number 1 in gender equality in the workplace and they have plenty good laws that help them guarantee equality for workers. Even though Canada has some laws that help the cause we think the way Iceland goes about it is better
·    The Canadian charter of rights and freedoms states both state equality for all regardless of gender
·    In Iceland equal pay for equal work is mandatory for all women
·    Companies based from Iceland must include at 40% of women on the staff
·    Women are protect by the law Act on Equal Status and Equal Rights of Women and Men This law includes information on gender equality for government and businesses to follow.
We think the gender equality isn’t a lot to ask for especially in this day and age and we believe we can achieve these goals.
