Good stuff.
This. This is good fiction writing advice. I really appreciate how it was formatted as “this is a common problem, here is a solution to try in your own work” and not “oh god, don’t do that!” without any extra help. And I extra appreciated the “don’t rely on adverbs” bit, because they do have their place but they aren’t the only way actions can be emphasized.
STAR WARS AMBIENT SOUNDSCAPES & MUSIC
so i like to listen to different star wars ambient noise videos while writing fanfic. i’ll usually look up which planet i’m currently writing about or try and find one similar to the environment, but not always. here’s a few of my favorites, hope this helps! :)
hoth - music and ambience
coruscant - upper city rainstorm (my go-to)
coruscant - upper city apartment
dagobah - swamp ambience
endor - riverside camp
naboo - music and ambience
kamino - tipoca city rainstorm
tatooine - mos eisely ambience
hyperspace ambience
star wars ambient soundtracks
jedi meditation and ambient relaxing sounds
jedi fallen order complete soundtrack (another favorite)
kotor jedi academy soundtrack

use comic sans to write
i hate this so much but this knowledge is too powerful to keep from you all.
last night @phaltu discovered that setting your font to comic sans in google docs improves writing speed and creativity by an insane amount. “no” i said and “die” but then i tried it and god. i wish it wasn’t this way. i wish it wasn’t true. i wish i could protect you all from this but it’s real.
something about this font is so disarming. something about this font lets you look past the shape of the words and into their soul. i’ve never written so much as i did last night, on my phone, at 2am, in comic sans.
if you have writer’s block. if you lack inspiration. if you need this. don’t be afraid to use it. sometimes the things we find most horrifying are also the things we need the most. trust me. let comic sans into your life.
it’s true
You’re running away from the words you’ve typed, inevitably laying more behind you. Like the old prospector running from the flame that is burning along the gunpowder falling from their pocket.
It’s true. And it’s easier to concentrate and process what you read.
i hate this so much that i’m trying it right now. stay tuned. i swear to god if i write everything in comic sans after this i’m gonna be so mad
fuck I hate this it’s working
do you ever read a piece of advice and know that, no matter how true it might be, you’d rather die than take it
It works. it works really, really, really well. And I hate it.
omfg if this is the thing that breaks my writer’s block i will burn down the building

Y’know I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
Last time I reblogged the money cat, I won two $100 gift cards at work.

Just know you aren't alone in this. I've written a fraction of what I should have written, over the last 4 months. The anxiety is real, there are many things to be anxious and depressed about.
So be kind to yourself. Set yourself small targets and goals. Be happy when you succeed, and forgive yourself when you fail.
Lightning flashed around him as his breath came in shallow pants. His eyes were half crazed and he raised a hand as if to call down something huge when something grabbed his wrist.
