Hi, I'm Solace! Welcome to my blog :)

I am a writer, an artist, and a student of English Literature. Old books are my passion! I am a Protestant Christian, a feminist, and politically unaffiliated. However, any form of racism, misogyny, or harassment will be blocked.

My main interests are Sherlock Holmes, Lord of the Rings, and general old books. However, I love all kinds of art, and am equally fascinated with music-- indie folk, rock, and 60s-80s in particular. I also study historical clothing (mainly British 1890s) on the side, and am a beginner digital artist. Lastly, I am a massive fan of physical media-- records, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, VHS, etc etc. Currently I've been reading City Between and watching anime for the first time!

My main hobby is writing fantasy novels, which is the main reason I got this blog really! I have a lot of stories though, so I do apologize for the constant stream of original characters you will be subject to.

My Main Novel: This is a fantasy story that combines medieval, Victorian, and Greek mythological elements and has a heavy focus on the fantastical creatures, elaborate history, and complex mythology of the world. Elena has been dragged out of what she thinks is a peaceful life training in a variety of weaponry and studying the history of a world she doesn't believe is real. Though now finding herself responsible for her science-obsessed friend who keeps getting into trouble, she still tries her best to get back to her peaceful, very solitary life in the woods.

Raphael and Hyacinth's story: This is a part of the same world as my main novel. It's about two humans granted immortality and a divine mission, though a prophecy that one will kill the other hangs over them. They're my favorite OCs and I have a lot of art for them.

Folktales: I am writing a variety of folktales for the above world. Most recently I have been working on one about dragon-slaying and nation-founding by my world's greatest folk hero, Andale.

My vampire hunting novel: This one is not connected to my fantasy world. I mention this one rarely but it's about an estranged brother and sister who hunt vampires (which are sort of more like zombie-werewolf-vampire hybrid things). It's generally about liminal spaces, religion, and being a younger sister.

Finally, I don't typically engage in shipping characters (or at least rarely), although I usually have no problem with others who do. So unless I list something as romantic, please don't assume! Expect a lot of platonic relationship appreciation here!

My boss said she would be sending me the lessons to teach at work but she hasn't sent me anything yet... I am not sure what to do

#I'd just feel so much better if a pastor was the one to be creating these lessons and not some random college student (me)#These are smart kids and they deserve lessons that are both sound and challenging enough for them #It seems I shall be spending my time before work researching and coming up with something #Which is fine I can't complain since I'm getting paid #But I was supposed to be drawing!! I think it’s odd how many canonically religious characters are head canoned with religious trauma. I understand people like to project onto their favorites, but sometimes I can’t help but think, “can someone please let this character be held by their faith instead of harmed by it for once?”

If your character has a chronic illness or chronic pain please understand that they have already made peace with a version of their life that other people would find unbearable. They are not constantly in crisis. They have adapted. They have systems. They know their body in a way healthy people never have to. They are also exhausted in a way that doesn't show and angry sometimes in a way they feel they're not allowed to be. Write that competence and that exhaustion together. Both are true at the same time.

Sick of seeing people portray characters with chronic illnesses as always in a state of panic and never knowing what to do with their own bodies. Most of us are literally born that way. We’ve lived with it our whole lives, we know what the hell to do with it and how to live with it.
