When a half conscious or delirious whumpee just keeps apologizing for everything <3333
"Hey. Hey. Don't do this to me. Open your eyes. C'mon, open your eyes, don't do this to me."
"...I don't think she'sâ"
"No. Not like this. Not like this. C'mon, come on."
whumpee gets so overwhelmingly afraid that they just stop responding to any stimulus whatsoever. whumper tries to poke them back to reality, but whumpee continues to stare back blankly.
"oh dear," whumper comments, "it seems that I've broken another one."
dehumanization tropes i love
-not allowed on furniture. remain standing or kneel on the floor, no sitting
-not allowed to make eye contactÂ
-being silenced immediately every time they try to speakÂ
-casual manhandling, being dragged alone because theyâre not trusted to move by themselvesÂ
-casual, nonconsensual touch. randomly pulling them closer, absently playing with hair, manually adjusting their posture
-giving orders without explanationÂ
-giving orders they know are arbitrary, just to exercise power
-talking about them like they arenât even in the roomÂ
-authorizing other people to monitor and control them
-being kept in restraints 24/7, with movement restricted even further in their downtimeÂ
-degrading their natural behaviors and reflexes. stare is creepy, smile is ugly, flinching is disrespectful, etcâŠ
-putting down their hobbies/interests
-ascribing ill intent to all their actions and assuming the worst from them

A narrative parallel I love: Whumpee seeing themselves in other objects/animals/etc that Caretaker interacts with.
-Caretaker gently carrying a spider or other creepy crawly out into the garden instead of squashing it gives the Whumpee who was always considered expendable a lump in their throat.
-Caretaker having a âscaryâ dog breed like a Pitt bull or Rottweiler but treating it like a pet and lapdog, loving on it instead of training it to attack. Living Weapon Whumpee watches hopefully from their spot standing guard as the dog lays its head in Caretakers lap.
-Caretaker fixing their old beater of a car instead of getting a new one, even though they could afford it, and the Whumpee who was replaced after get hurt/making a mistake/getting too old/etc feels a sense of overwhelming relief.
-Caretaker feeding and watching over a feral stray cat from a distance, never trying to trap it or get too close, just making sure itâs okay. Stoic/defiant Whumpee not letting themselves think about how that makes them feel. Also, if/when Caretaker has to catch and treat the stray because itâs gotten injured or sick, realizing that thatâs what Caretaker had been doing for them. They just were too scared to understand.
-Caretaker oiling and polishing their tools, putting them away carefully, taking pains that they were well taken care of and would last forever. Mentioning offhandedly that if you take care of your tools, theyâll take care of you. Slave Whumpee nodding emphatically, hoping that mindset extends to them as well.
-Caretaker tending their garden, trimming buds from flowering plants to keep the plant healthy instead just pretty, and Whumpee whoâs only ever been valued for their appearance feels less shame and guilt for âletting themselves goâ in recovery.
Theres something so special. About a character saying they're "used to" something. "Im used to pain." "Im used to death." "Im used to be treated like that." "It's okay, I'm used to it." It gets me. Alskskkdwlndjcjsbbsbs
Whumpee has wanted nothing more than the bare minimum for years. Their desires ranged from a cold glass of water to a soft blanket to just 15 minutes alone and unharmed. Things like that.
Now, with Caretaker, they have that. Cold water on tap, a bed filled with soft blankets and pillow, every day is filled with peaceful minutes. They havenât wanted anything for months. Theyâd almost forgotten what it felt like, to want for something out of reach.
That is, until during some random quiet afternoon, an ad on the TV scrolled by.
It was something silly, cheesy and gimmicky and 19.99 plus shipping and handling. But they wanted it. And almost immediately they resigned themselves to not getting it, ever.
It wasnât a big deal, it was stupid, they didnât need it, but every time the commercial was on, they watched.
Caretaker notices, of course they do. Theyâd been worried honestly, Whumpee didnât seem sad, or scared, or upset, and that was exactly what theyâd been working towards this whole time, but they seemed a littleâŠhollow. Kind of listless sometimes, and though Caretaker didnât want to push, Whumpee had to have more aspirations than just, sleeping and wandering all day.
But they chalked it up to needing more time to recover, relearn what they liked, and what interested them. So when they see how they perked up at the commercial, how their eyes followed the demos, Caretaker happily sent off 19.99 plus shipping and handling, and waited.
The box arrived on a grey Tuesday, and the knock at the door made both of them jump. Whumpee lingered in the living room while Caretaker answered the door, accepting a brown box with a familiar looking logo across the side.
When Caretaker turned around, Whumpee looked away, pretending like they hadnât been watching like a hawk from down the hall.
They set the box down, and call Whumpee over with a grin, saying it was for them, come do the honors. When Whumpee opened the box, it was like a kid on Christmas. They looked from it to Caretaker, confused but unable to hide their excitement.
Caretaker says they seemed to like the commercials. Whumpee looked back down into the box. Inside was a gigantic art kit, oil pastels, water colors, markers, pencils, erasers, brushes, everything. They didnât know what they were going to make with it, but just the thought of it made them light up.
They thanked Caretaker over and over the following days, which they waved off, it was an absolutely minuscule price to pay to see Whumpee as excited as they were.
It takes a while for them to actually use it, instead of just running their fingers over the rows of pastels and brushes, but soon their entire room is littered with sketches, paintings, doodles and drawings.
Caretaker hangs up a bulletin board, restocks the paper, and finds a series of paint along videos for Whumpee to follow, and beams with pride.
There they are. Thatâs the person theyâd seen glimpses of, thatâs who Whumpee was. Is. Will be.
parental caretaker prompts pls <3
Parental Caretaker
âHey, hey, whoa⊠What happened to you?â
checking in throughout the day, trying not to be too overbearing
âYou're quiet today. Did something happen again?â
knowing their kid so well that they immediately know when something is wrong, even if whumpee insists nothing is wrong
âHey, hey! One more step and I'll fucking deck you.â
giving comfort by letting whumpee lean their head into their chest
âChin up, kid. Don't let them see when they hit your where it hurts.â
a hand on the shoulder from behind, squeezing lightly
âOf course I'm worried! That's my damn kid in there!â
making whumpee food and hot drinks after a hard day
âAre you okay? I'm so sorry, kid.â
guilt and self-blame after overlooking/dismissing their kid's distress
âStop acting like my parent!â â âWell, your real parents aren't doing it, and I'm not gonna let you go through this alone.â
seeing themself in whumpee, and struggling to see the situation objectively
âHey, kid. Look at me. We're a team, right?â â âRight.â
feeling an instinctual kind of rage when seeing their kid in danger
âIf you ever touch my kid again, I'm gonna end you, do you understand me?!â
struggling in the aftermath, when they need to accept that their kid is different now
âYou called me dad/mom/parentâŠâ â âSorry, I slipped upâŠâ â âDon't apologize.â
Prompts for writing Eyes like that
â She had silver eyes with the faintest blue at the rim, like a cloud that can't decide if it wants to be sky.
â She had eyes like the surface of a frozen lake. Silver-grey, still, and you were never quite sure how thick the ice was.
â She had grey irises like a winter sky and she looked at me like I was the first thing she'd seen in a long time that made her want spring.
â His eyes were the color of a storm I would have walked into without a coat if he'd asked me to.
â His irises were the silver of a sword that has never been used. Beautiful and cold and quietly waiting for the moment it becomes necessary.
â He had grey eyes that went silver in certain light and I spent an embarrassing amount of time engineering the right light.
â His silver gaze was the first cold thing I had ever wanted to be close to.

as much as I love badass characters pushing through pain to fight, I also love when they hit a point where they just can't. something structural is wrong or broken, so they can't stand. their muscles are simply too weak and overworked to hold them up. their bloody hands slip off the handles of their weapons, they can't aim through their vertigo or tunneling vision, they shake from blood loss or exhaustion even if not from fear. they've just reached their limit, and no amount of willpower will change that!
Whumpee who just needs to cry and repeatedly ask for reassurance over and over because just because itâs over doesnât mean they feel it yet. They hate it, hate being weak and needy and pathetic, why couldnât they just get it through their head-
But Caretaker understands, and holds whumpee in their lap, repeating the same sweet answers for hours. Yes, youâre safe, yes, I love you, yes, no one is upset with you, yes, yes, yes.
fun thing I said today that I wanted to document:
"I don't want to cook my chickens before they're hatched. wait. wait that's not the phrase is it. cooking your chickens before they hatch is just eggs. eggs is normal I think."
I really want to put the phrase "eggs is normal I think" on something now but idk what
a character who truly, legitimately goes âbut why does that matter?â about their feelings when someone who cares about them asks. and the sudden falling of everyone around themâs faces as they realize that this person doesnât recognize themself as someone who needs or should be taken care of. i want Everyone to hurt. surprise at the idea, worry for them, horror at not having noticed. do you see this person who doesnât think of themselves as a person?
obsessed. also makes sense when you remember than butterflies drink blood
