I'm a synesthetic writer with a love for polymer clay, my fandoms, and a bunch of other random things. This is my main blog, which is reserved for my mental randomness.

you ever think about the ultimate legendary status aang left at that one fire nation school he went to? 

like. just imagine the stories that came afterward. this random kid from the colonies shows up for ONE week, tops. probably even less. and in that time, he: shows up in the middle of the school day because he was caught ditching, gets away with breaking the school uniform code and wearing a headband, speaks out in class to question the authenticity of their fire nation history books right to the teacher’s face, brings back all the vintage lingo from a hundred years ago like flameo and hotman, flirts with the girlfriend of the most popular guy at school who also happens to be the school’s biggest thug, totally wipes out popular thug guy’s ass in a fight without breaking a sweat or lifting a finger, throws the single most epic, greatest dance party rager ever that would go down in history, in a CAVE, dances with all the prettiest girls, escapes from the school’s administration trying to catch him at aforementioned party, and disappears that same night without a trace. 

i’ll bet those students probably still go around saying stuff like “man, remember kuzon?” *shakes head in wonder* “wonder what kind of crazy shenanigans he’s up to these days”

Just a rant from creative writing class...

I don’t care where you are in your writing experience...you should write what you want to, not what everyone else is telling you to write!

You have to be more flexible if you’re working on something you want to publish, but if you’re just writing a short story for your entertainment and the possible entertainment of classmates, family, and friends, then why not write exactly what you want to?

I like reading and writing happy stories. The conflicts aren’t always black-and-white, but they’re there. I like writing happy “fluff” scenes where you get to know and love my characters. Those are the scenes that keep me reading published books, and those are the scenes I like to write for myself when I don’t have to worry about coming up with a literary masterpiece. If it helps me get to know the characters, I like to read it :)

Of course that’s not an excuse for awful writing and being lazy, but I think you’ll find (as I have) that the most realistic scenes (as far as character dynamics/relationships go) are the ones where you worry less about the checklist of writing a story and focus more on who the characters are, how they interact, and the small moments they have together :)

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t write a happy story because “it’s not deep enough” or “it’s unrealistic”. I’m sorry to hear that happiness isn’t your reality, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be mine.

Difference Between Projective and Associative Synesthesia

Okay, this confuses the stuffing out of people sometimes (at least, it used to for me), so I decided to write a post on it.

There are two umbrellas that someone’s synesthesia can fall under: projective and associative.

Projective synesthesia is likely the first kind you’ll hear of when you stumble across the topic of synesthesia. This is where your pairings are projected outward into your peripheral vision. Someone with grapheme-color synesthesia (projective) would see words/letters/numbers/etc. in their “proper” colors. For example, if they saw the word “kite” as purple, the word “kite” would literally appear to be purple, even though it may be written in black text. For someone with ticker tape synesthesia (projective), they literally see “subtitles” in their peripheral vision spelling out everything that someone is saying. These subtitles can be located anywhere in their peripheral vision. Someone with lexical gustatory synesthesia (projective), which is sight to taste, will literally taste the words/numbers/letters they see/hear. 

Associative synesthesia is where you see your pairings only in your mind, rather than in your peripheral vision. You know how when you remember something--an event, a person, etc.--and you see it in your mind, but not in the world around you? That’s the same place that associative synesthetes see their pairings. For lack of a better term, I call this the mental realm. I believe I’m the only one that really uses that term to describe it, but I could be wrong. Regardless, people with associative synesthesia see their pairings in their mental realm or have a very strong association between two things. For someone with lexical-gustatory synesthesia (associative), the letter Y may very obviously taste like watermelon without them physically tasting watermelon. For those with chromesthesia/sound-color synesthesia, perhaps “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles is clearly blue and brown (which they see in their mental realm).

Every single type of synesthesia (as far as I know) has the capability of being either projective or associative in a synesthete. Associative synesthesia is every bit as legitimate as projective synesthesia, but tends to be a bit harder to discover since it’s more subtle.

I decided to do some fan art for Dr. Gaster Learns a Thing by @mathmusic8 and this was the product! In the latest chapter, Dr. Gaster does his googly eyes (much like Papyrus does his) and I just had to draw it :)
