I want to connect more with the writing and fanfiction community and I think some advice from anyone else suffering major amounts of stress about the current state of the world and still trying to fuel the fire to write and create would be so greatly appreciated. Way easier to do it and be anxious with other people than riding out the apocalypse solo!

So working full time and going back to school full time and going to therapy to work through my grief and trauma means my brain, my amygdala, my psychiatrist and my Adderall are working over time.

good thing I have fan fictions and escapism to help me cope. everything’s fine everything’s fine.

But that’s what I love most about fan fiction, you get to spend as many hours as you want, kinda frozen in time with some very special stories and characters that are at the epicenter of who you are at your core. it’s so magical like goddamn!!

thank you for keeping this such a safe place to do all these things. this community, our ability to come together and support each other and our gift of writing is worth more than gold.

casually getting writers block because of the state of reality and my own personal grief and when that dries up the creative river, that means things are drastic lol

I feel nothing but love and devotion for the fanfiction im working on now, but I kept finding it hard to find a balance of giving some context to the backstory of the characters I’m writing for, and letting the story evolve on its own and let readers take it into their own.

Vented to my sister (my eternal creative works partner) about it and she dropped the biggest reality shift. She mentioned I might be more invested in the back story than I am in the present one. Why not focus my attention on it first? Then we talked about how I don’t feel like I have a proper identity unless I’m tied to a creative project I’m passionate about or some BORING shit like that.

So I’m gonna write the prologues to SS and focus on building the world I’ve been so invested in. Sometimes with fanfictions it really feels way easier bring to life and write shit down on paper and share it on my platforms if it exists within the universe of comfort characters I know and love, where it feels safe and secure to use escapism. Most of the time though, my stories can stand on their own rule without existing alongside in a fan universe like Gravity Falls or Monsters.

I won’t ever stop doing fan fics, because combining my worlds and endless cast of characters is my happy place. But I can’t deny that this whole conversation made me re think so much about how I approach writing and worked building. The confidence and motivation was there all along, I’m just way too insecure in myself to really take a leap of faith.

Here’s to seeing Eliza, Trick and Miss Tilda on the other side. I hope you guys love them as much as I do!!
