You Don't Hate the Government Enough
Anti homeless architecture, Japanese internment, Jim Crowe, Abu Ghraib, the Trail of Tears, indigenous Residential schools, profit prisons, allyship with known genocidal nation states, bombing Caribbean fisherman, Rule of Thumb, Monroe doctrine, lowering the Jewish immigration quota in the 30s. Just to name a few examples of why you should be far angrier than you probably are.
And it's not just because the rich and powerful through history hate everyone, it's because they love money.
Colonialism and Fascism are borne of capitalism. The idea that through whatever means, you can enrich yourself by buying, producing, and selling, with no inborn principles of compassion or consideration. It's short sighted, selfish, and ultimately, cruel.
The slave trade wasn't propped up by racism alone, supplemented and justified, yes, but at its core it was a capitalistic enterprise. Buying, producing, and selling for the gain of the capitol owner. Just in this case, tragically, the profitable goods were people.
And your government did that. Your government upheld the institution of slavery because it enriched their fellow wealthy white men.
But it's okay, you have the opportunity to get rich, with a system like this. You, on some stroke of luck, might have the opportunity to work forty hours a week. By the grace of God, someday, you might be able to look down your nose at the starving and homeless. Pull yourself by your bootstraps. Work. Buy. Consume. Die. It's the American dream, right? To get rich.
The government doesn't care about you. They don't care about anyone. Just because you're master's favorite dog doesn't mean you're not a dog.
