I’m not super fond of the way vampires turn pale no matter their skin tone so here’s a proposal:

This was loosely based off livor mortis which is the bluish-purple discoloration of the skin of dead bodies. It’s a result of the gravitation of blood but fuck that vamps are purple now

The stages of decomp could also explain other well know vampire traits?

Sharp teeth/claws? Skin and gums pulling back (also probably whatever biological agent/magic that causes vamps can also trigger bone/nail growth.)

That last point could also explain Vampire speed and strength. That can also be caused by the brain having shut down, so when it "wakes up" there's no more limits on human strength and speed, because they can't feel the pain anymore.

I really like this idea, not only for representation, but because it makes Vampires more ghastly and creepy and truly undead.
