Just Because a Mouse Lives in a Cookie Jar...
These cute mouse cookies were made by my sister-in-law. Sorry, I don't have the recipe, but they were almost too cute to eat!
Whatsits Galore
Local Bakery Blunder
A bakery in my area gave themselves an interesting name: Nothing Bundt Cakes.
I'm all for clever business names, and I get the joke: it's a variation of 'Nothing but cakes.' However, it can be read as if 'nothing' is a description of your bundt cakes. Nothing Bundt Cakes. Not very complimentary when read that way.
So take note, entrepreneurs, and be sure your clever business name can't be taken two ways.

The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance, a new book by Jake S. Friedman, has been pending for years. Its debut has been delayed over and over again, for reasons unknown to the public, in spite of the fervent desire from fans to get their hands on it, present company included.
Just in case it never sees the light of day (a fate worse than death!), here are some images from Mr. Friedman's own website to amp up the yearning.
It's An Art Thing
Not many people watched this TV series, more's the pity. If you are one of the lucky few, maybe you can ace this quiz.
Book Review: We'll always Have Casablanca
When I spotted this book about one of the greatest movies of all time (definitely in the top 3), I grabbed it up. Who wouldn't want to know more about Casablanca?
The book is long enough to do the movie justice, but the actual information on the making of the film is sparse. A lot of space is taken up with the careers of the various writers, actors, and crew, not necessarily a bad thing. However, after finishing the entire book, I can't recall any really fun anecdotes or amazing facts.

Here's an error message you might see if you visit the official Marvel website. Cap's body language says it all.
Disney Afternoon DVDs -- Where's the Rest of the Story?
Last week, I promised you three Disney TV shows that got cheated on DVD. Although they had DVD releases, the full series was not included. Each of these gems has episodes missing, a disgraceful treatment of both the series and the fans. Read all about it at https://whatsitsgalore1.blogspot.com/2026/04/disney-afternoon-dvds-wheres-rest-of.html
DVDs That Ought To Be
In the not-too-distant past, it seemed likely that every movie and TV series known to man would eventually make its way to DVD. But now the explosion of streaming services seems to have killed that dream. Check out 10 TV shows that deserve to be on DVD but somehow missed the wave at https://whatsitsgalore1.blogspot.com/2026/03/dvds-that-ought-to-be.html
Monument To An Unknown Artist
This amazing statue in London has to be seen to be believed.
Due to the nature of the internet, this video could disappear at any time.
Mego Action Figure -- Nurse Chapel
The Mego corporation recently revealed an action figure that never saw the light of day: Nurse Chapel from Star Trek, the original series. This photo shows how gorgeous the prototype was, but, alas, it seems she will never go into production, a terrible loss for collectors of action figures and star Trek fans alike.
Game Review -- Encyclopedia
When I heard the name of this game, I thought it would have to do with trivia knowledge. In reality, it's a dice-placement game.
As an assistant involved in the creation of the world's first encyclopedia, you travel the world researching animals and publishing your findings to earn prestige (and victory points.)
It took a few turns to get the hang of the game, but once I did, I enjoyed it. The dice-placement mechanic is structured so that you're torn between taking the die you really want and giving rewards to your opponents. Add to that the fact that the available dice get progressively worse and you have some really tough decisions to make. But there are so many choices on the board that you always have useful moves on your turn. If you can get animals with matching habitats or diets, you have a chance to score big, really big, in a single turn.
A few details my be off-putting to some, but they have less to do with game play and more to do with game design. For example, the cards feature pictures of animals without names, except for the Latin taxonomic name. That's no problem for my family of animal-loving encyclopedia-readers, but those who can't tell a wombat from a fruit bat might grow tired of calling every creature 'that thing.'
The names of the various sections (Expedition, Publication, Experts, etc.) should be printed on the board; it took me several turns before I could remember which was which. And the reference guides are so badly organized as to make them almost useless. But none of these things should stop you from having fun collecting your critters, sailing the world to study them, and then rushing to publish your findings, all in a mere six rounds of play. And, who knows? You might even come away knowing what a Monodon monoceros is.
Be Our Guest Dancing Vase
My mom has had the vase on the left for years. It's not valuable or anything special, except that it always reminded me of this more famous vase.

Top 5 Non-Disney Animated Films
I'm a huge Disney fan, so you can bet I say that Disney animation is the best, bar none. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate other animated movies. See my top 5 at https://whatsitsgalore1.blogspot.com/2026/02/top-5-non-disney-animated-films.html
