藏海戏麟(1-4)Wang Zanghai-related Extras
藏海戏麟是2017盗墓笔记重启系列的一部分,主要讲述盗墓笔记里汪藏海的故事,首发于南派三叔微博,这里把藏海戏麟单独列出便于稻米阅读。(x) Tibetan Sea Opera is a part of the 2017 Tomb Robbery Notes: Reboot series, mainly telling the story of Wang Zanghai from Tomb Robbery Notes. It was first published on the Nanpai Sanshu’s Weibo; it’s listed here separately to make it easier for the fans to read.
i've translated all the four little extras npss wrote about zang wanghai (which exist in the raws website; link above) since i noticed that they're not on merebear's website, and i will be posting them as different posts here on tumblr. translations are all by me, with all my hsk5-approximate knowledge so they are not a cleaned up MTL, but an actual translation. that said, if someone knows better chinese than me (very easy to do) and thinks that some of my translation choices are weird or incorrect, feel free to tell me about it! links to each extra at the bottom of this post; and if anyone wants a pdf of all of them together, you can dm me here or on discord.
Translator’s Note: I’m putting the title down as “Tibetan Sea Drama” but that’s actually not entirely accurate, because it leaves out the last character, 麟. I’m not actually sure how to translate the title in a way that gets across the pun that I’m guessing NPSS was making so I’ll just explain it. 藏海 means ‘Tibetan Sea’ and it’s the same characters from the Tibetan Sea Flower book (aka 藏海花). Additionally, it is also Wang Zanghai’s actual name. As a verb, 戏 means “to play” and as a noun it means “drama; play; show”. 麟 is translated in all my dictionaries as “female unicorn”, but it’s the second character of 麒麟 | Qilin. So as is typical of NPSS, the title is punny and metaphorical with a double-layer meaning that I don’t think can ever get across properly in English.

if you’re a gifmaker, you need to read this
staff has announced that on may 15, they’re forcing everyone to switch to the new beta post editor. this is very, very bad for gifs. @saintalicent made a post detailing the difference between the old and new post editors, but basically the new post editor shoves gifs into a text post and slightly resizes them, lowering the quality of the gifs.
gifmakers are the backbone of this website, and staff needs to be reminded of this. if you’re a gifmaker, please send polite feedback to staff explaining that you don’t want the quality of your gifs to be reduced and that this will negatively affect your experience on this website.
we got them to back off on the gif to mp4 thing last year, and we need them to back off on this. please reblog for visibility.
The thing that personally pisses me off the most is that the @staff asked for feedback back in the beginning of 2021, and promised that the feedback we sent would be used to improve the new beta editor before it was made permanent. I still have the email I sent in March of 2021 and the response I got back. Most of my complaints had to do with tagging, specifically:
- no quick tag options; for those making original content this is an absolute must, since attracting traffic means tagging with popular tags for the content, but staying organized on your own blog usually requires an entirely different set of tags (this is what quick tag bundles are for) - no frequent tag memory; in other words, the old post editor remembers 10/10 of the content I regularly tag; the new post editor remembers only two - the new post editor also retains no memory of frequently used tags that use columns, hyphens, exclamation marks, or asterisks
The response I got was this:
These are a work in progress. We’ve been investing a lot of time to improve how tagging behaves in the new editor. We’ve improved it quite a lot, and I’m confident we’re going to improve tagging even more over time!
The beta editor is a work in progress. Every day we’re releasing new improvements and making sure that we get it as similar as possible with the legacy one (in terms of usage), but of course, a much-improved version of it.
We’ve been getting tons of positive feedback, but none of that would be possible if we didn’t gather (and act) on the feedback that we get from the community, just like this one.
As an aside, don’t worry, we’re not discontinuing the legacy editor before addressing as many issues as we can with the new, beta editor.
It has been two years since they’ve asked for this feedback, and the beta editor today is just as shitty as it was then, except that somehow gifs on the new beta editor look even worse now, than they did in 2021. Even the quality of plain images significantly decreases on the new post editor, so not only will the gifmakers affected, but also photographers, editors, and artists.
I don’t think @staff understands that once you get rid of 90% of visual content creators (and yes, in this case we are content creators because content is what provides this site nearly all of its traffic; content is its freaking reason for existence) all you have left is another Blogger by Google; a blogging platform on its inevitable slide obsolescence.
Zhang Luyi as Wu Xie in the trailer of Tibetan Sea Flower | 藏海花 which will hopefully air in 2023
Upcoming Shows in the Lost Tomb Series
I'll continue to update this post on any rumors I see about the projects. None of these English titles are official and are subject to change when they air. MyDramaList version
Tibetan Sea Flower (藏海花)
Tibetan Sea Flower is a television series slated to have 36 episodes. It takes place 6 years after Ultimate Note. Wu Xie investigates Zhang Qiling's past.
Projected Air Date: Summer of 2023 (own projection)
Production: Currently filming. if there are no delays, filming should be completed in June 2022. Zhang Qiling's actor is done filming.
Cast:
Zhang Luyi as Wu Xie [starred as Wu Laogou in the Mystic Nine];
Chen Minghao as Wang Pangzi [starred as Pangzi in Sand Sea and Reunion];
Zhang Kangle as Zhang Qiling;
Wen Yongshan as Zhang Haixing;
Qiao Zhenyu as Xie Yuchen [starred as Xie Yuchen in Reunion].
Order: Comes after Ultimate Note and before Tomb of the Sea.
Based on: The second sequel to the main novel series. Available here.
Images/Videos: Opening Ceremony, ZQL Actor Wrapping Up, Behind the Scenes 1, BTS 2 (Weibo), BTS 3 (Weibo), BTS 4 (Weibo)
Tomb of the Sea 2 (沙海2)
Tomb of the Sea 2 is a planned television series announced by Xu Lei (author of novels) in a live stream in February 2021.
Projected Air Date: unknown
Production: in pre-production
Cast: Not yet announced. The original cast is highly unlikely to return.
Order: comes after Tomb of the Sea and before Reunion
Based on: unknown
The Mystic Nine 2 (老九门2)
The Mystic Nine 2 is a planned television series announced by iQiyi.
Projected Air Date: Q4 2023
Production: Pre-production
Cast: No cast announced. Most of the original cast will not be returning, but it seems the production team is still trying to get William Chan. Some rumors even say he has already signed on.
Order: After The Mystic Nine and before The Lost Tomb
Based on: no particular novel
Tibetan Sea Opera (藏海戏麟)
Tibetan Sea Opera is slated to have 36 episodes. It is about Wang Zanghai and what happened to him at the Heavenly Palace as well as how the Wang family came to be. Neither the iron triangle nor the mystic nine will appear in the show.
Projected Air Date: unknown
Production: Pre-production. It was recently mentioned in Xu Lei's Company's hiring notice, so it is still planned.
Cast: No cast announced or rumored.
Order: Before the Mystic Nine. It will take place in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
Based on: Wang Zanghai shorts on the author's weibo (untranslated).
Title Info: The Zanghai in the title means Tibetan Sea but it is also from Wang Zanghai's name (王藏海). Xi (戏) means drama/play and Lin (麟) comes from Qilin (麒麟). Lin is the female version of the mythical creature but it can also be used to refer to the creature in general. So, the show can also be translated as Wang Zanghai's Qilin Opera. The official English title will definitely be something different.
The Southern Archives (南部档案)
The Southern Archives is a side-story television series. The Southern Archives is a secret organization created by the Zhang Family. It explores the trials and tribulations of Zhang Haiyan (aka Little Brother Zhang).
Projected Air Date: Q4 2024
Production: Pre-production
Cast: No cast announced or rumored.
Order: Before The Mystic Nine and after Tibetan Sea Opera. It takes place during the early Republican Era (1912-1920s).
Based on: The Southern Archives, available here.
