To all my followers who are citizens of the EU and of voting age, please consider signing and sharing this EU citizens’ initiative requesting that the European Commission stop upholding intellectual property rights regarding COVID vaccines and treatments and make them a public good instead.

In order for the European Commission to read these proposals this initiative needs a lot more people signing that it has now, so every person counts.

For such an initiative to be considered by the EU-comission, it needs to reach at least 1 Million signatures + a certain threshold in at least 7 different member states. So far, only Belgium has met this second criterium. (As of 26th of April 2021)

使いやすいコンピュータ環境 - Easy to use computer environment

人間とコンピュータのやり取り（対話）のことをHuman Computer Interaction (HCI) と呼ぶ。１９４０年代にコンピュータが世に出てしばらくは、非常に使いにくかった。コンピュータを操作するために、配線や複雑なスイッチ類を操作する必要があったからである。やがてキーボードとキャラクタディスプレイを用いた対話性の高い環境となった。 さらに今日の操作環境では、ビットマップディスプレイを用いることにより、画像で多くの情報を表現することができる。この画像はマウス等のポインティングデバイスで操作する。この操作環境はグラフィカルユーザーインターフェース（GUI）と呼ばれ、情報を画像として認識し、画像をポインティングデバイスで直接操作できるのである。

電子メールとは、ネットワークによって接続されているコンピュータの間でやり取りされる文書のことである。以下、単にメールと書いた場合、電子メールを意味することとする。また、電子メールのことをe-mailともいう。 電子メールを扱う電子メールプログラムはパーソナルコンピュータやワークステーションなどさまざまなコンピュータで動作する。また最近では携帯電話やノートパソコンなどの情報端末を利用してさまざまな場所で電子メールをやり取りすることができる。 電子メールを使うことで、好きな時間に好きな場所から、メールアドレスを持っている人に文書を書いて送ることができる。

進化するネットワーク - An evolving network

インターネットは毎日のように新しい技術が導入されるネットワークである。数年前には、静止画像だけで構成されるホームページが多かった。しかし、最近では音声や動画を用いたホームページが普通になってきた。人気アーチストの新曲や映像も、パソコンで受信することができる。インターネット上の音声や映像はデジタル情報であり、データ量が膨大になってしまう。

そのため、最近では高速通信が可能なブロードバンド回線が用いられている。ブロードバンドにはケーブルテレビ（CATV)、ADSL、光ケーブルなどの回線がある。電話回線は伝送速度が最大でも 56Kbps（キロビット/秒）であるが、ブロードバンドは最低でも 10Mbps（メガビット/秒、１メガビットは1024キロビット）以上であり、単純計算では約180倍もの速度が得られる。このような高速通信によって、テレビ放送と変わらない映像がインターネット上に提供されることで、さまざまな分野での応用とサービスがすでに始まっている。
