Shield Reunion and the Dean Situation

The Shield has always been beyond what WWE want it to be, at least in its last couple of runs. Its three men with mutual respect for each other as the work horses of the company they took over as theirs getting the chance to work together as one. Share the ring and a bond with the group that define their career and story. Shield shared a story that pierced through the characters they played and affected the men behind those characters.

Roman, Dean and Seth all were visibly shaken up when Roman made his announcement. That moment they shared with their Shield pose was haunted by a dark cloud. All three men didn’t know if they would ever get a chance to be together again as the Shield. A lot of stuff happened since then. All the hell broke loose for Dean with Roman being gone. He’s not a guy who’ll take shit that’s against everything he stands for. I genuinely believe lot of his frustrations came from the Roman situation and how WWE forced him to use something that was hurting him emotionally a lot for storyline purpose. And in the end it all served no purpose whatsoever and his heel turn fell flat. He was back to square one.

I honestly believe this ‘one last time’ reunion is more personal than anything else. Like I can go into deep details and analyze stuff but at the end of the day, the vibe I got off of it all was that these three men behind these three characters getting to have one final run as a unit that defined them all the best during the course of their careers cuz they might never get a chance to do this ever again.

Roman has been through an experience that has made him grateful for little things in the world. I know he would love to have his best friend stick around, be his road partner, but Roman’s also a very considerate guy. He would want what’s best for Dean. I’m getting a feeling that if Dean really leaves in the end - which I’m strongly feeling at this point - maybe he’s got some personal reasons rather than something business related. He’s happy ever since Roman returned. You can easily see it in his face and the way he’s performing. I don’t doubt that Roman is on the quest to get his contract situation sorted out, but at the same time last night’s events made me feel like Roman has made peace with whatever Dean decides. He’s gonna enjoy his boy as long as he has with him in WWE.

According to recent reports Dean hasn’t signed a new contract yet, and he’s not been given the creative control he wants but everything else has been offered. So nothing has changed basically. Maybe Roman wants to give Dean a good send off, hence the way they reunited. I also feel like when they are together as a unit, most of their stuff comes straight from them. So yeah, the emotional moments, the dramatic turns, I give all credit to the boys. Roman is influential backstage nowadays and after what he went through and still came back to WWE, I’m sure they wanna give him whatever he wants cuz they owe it to him. And WWE can be nice when it wants, with the people it wants.

So the point I’m trying to make here is, this reunion really is not based on storylines and long sorted out plots. Its not that deep and that’s how I feel. This reunion is for a possibly departing Dean, and sending him out on a high note alongside his best friend who loves him a lot. Roman and Dean deserve to spent these last few months together in case Dean’s leaving cuz they both have been through a lot in last few months and maybe that’s the one good thing WWE can offer Roman cuz they certainly can’t give Dean what he wants.

I also see some people complaining bout Dean not paying for what he did and Roman wanting him back like nothing happened…Lmao, its sad how many people claim to be fan of these boys but have no understanding of their characters whatsoever. Its like they don’t hear what Dean says, don’t watch the way he acts. Seth and Dean both have characters with ton of layers, there’s no black and white with them. Roman’s always been the guy who’s all heart and love. He’s the only saint out of the three. And at the end of the day, its widely acknowledged how badly botched Dean’s heel run really was and now he’s leaving WWE cuz of constant bullshit thrown his way. How are people having a hard time accepting this after his situation became such a public knowledge is a little strange to me. I mean, plot holes from WWE are widely accepted as a normal occurrence. Why can’t we have it for the sake of Dean departing on a high note and his best friends sending him off the way they want? Right by his side.

I would also like to add that Dean’s turn was based on emotional turmoil, and it was evident losing Roman fucked him up royally. People say ‘for what he did to Roman’ and I’m like, he said some disgusting shit, but he put himself right in the same category as Roman. He implied him and Roman paid for their sins, and Seth still had to. Dean never went out to insult Roman, or called him names. Or said he never cared. He never even threw Seth’s past in his face. He was mentally in a bad place and he snapped. THAT’s the plot Dean was selling. No brainer. Then WWE creative stepped in and ruined the whole emotionally loaded storyline with their lazy disgusting bullshit that was filled with plot holes and ugly shit that made no sense and ruined Dean who suffered through such a personal blow to gain nothing in the end. Dean’s character NEVER recovered from that, and it got so bad that Dean decided to leave. We never found out the reasons and motives behind Dean’s doings, we never found out the reasons behind those tears. We never got the answers to those hints Dean dropped.

So really, what exactly should Roman be mad bout at him? His best friend, the man who was emotionally broken found a family in Roman. He found someone he could trust, love, without the fear of being betrayed by him ever. Roman has been the only one who has stood by Dean even when Dean was acting out. Whether it was over insecurities or his emotional issues. We have been led to believe Roman knows, understands and handles Dean better than anyone else can. So how can Roman not understand what has been going on with Dean? I see people saying Roman’s naive, but I think people are understating his character here. He has always taken great pride in being Dean’s only family. Roman no sold Seth’s reminder of Dean’s betrayal, its like he didn’t want to acknowledge it. Cuz really, he’s Dean’s best friend and knows him suffering such an ill fate and leaving Dean alone was meant to destroy his best friend mentally and emotionally. He accepts Dean’s flaws. He wants his family back. He KNOWS he can have him back. That’s what matters to him. He understands Dean’s turn was triggered by the news of his illness, and he knows now that he’s back he can have his Dean back too. Dean wasn’t greedy or some puppet…Dean acted like a mentally ill person. Roman knows Dean too well to not know that.

Seth on the other hand, he was rightfully wary. But he showed so much character and growth. He has always been selfish, but for once he wasn’t. He might not have such an open mind when it comes to Dean, cuz Dean and Seth don’t have a bond like Roman and Dean. But for Roman’s sake, he’s willing to be the bigger man. He also still cares bout Dean, and the Shield. I think the whole episode was beautifully done considering the awkward situation and the fucked up storyline him and Dean suffered post Roman’s departure. Also, Roman never asked Seth to apologize, and Seth had directly and selfishly hurt him for personal gains unlike Dean. So, basically if you understand Roman’s character, everything did make sense. Seth showed growth. Dean showed emotional vulnerability he should have based his heel run on but creative fucked it up. Roman showed what real life is all bout. Family. Love. Bonding. Living in the moment.

I hope people can look past the shitty part of WWE’s writing and just enjoy Dean with his brothers one last time, cuz we probably will never get a chance to ever have this again. That’s the feel I got. From Roman, from Seth, and even from WWE. These three men share a very deep bond, specially Dean and Roman. They should get a chance to celebrate it before their brother leaves for good.

So basically Dean fought death, spent more than 6 months fighting an injury that got worse cuz he kept fighting hurt, got in the best shape of his life to make his come back, lost his best friend and had to pretend to hate him when hes going through the toughest battle in his real life, had one of the laziest and shittest heel run in recent history all thanks to the most stupid writing ever possible, lost the midcard title he was slapped with only to be made to look like a fool in the Rumble match and at the end of the day, once again is probably going to wrestlemania with nothing worth your attention…

Yeah, where are those people who were whining and bitching for HEEL DEAN?? Like it would turn his career around…Didn’t I fucking say over and over again WWE would botch the fuck out of it? And look what they have done. All that effort, and Dean’s still empty handed at the end of the day.

He was always the afterthought of the Shield post break up and no amount of effort and hard work on his part will make WWE treat him on the same level as his ex-teammates. Look at the Manias they have had. Look at the moments they have had. And they fucking deserve each and every one of them, but when will Dean ever have his moment? When he’s not intentionally sabotaged by WWE even when he’s given a title or big win? Time to time they have screwed him over by their horrible booking. 

I usually try to look at the positives when it comes to WWE, but its pretty damn clear there’s no silver lining for Dean Ambrose. He may not be the best in-ring talent they have, but the amount of charisma he has is more than half of their roster have. He freakin’ got a plant over all on his own.

I’m actually glad Dean’s no longer wrestling regularly on TV. I hope he cuts down on the house shows as well. No need to ruin his body for a company that would reward lazy fucks like Brock with titles and everything, but not the ones who run themselves to the ground to make sure there seats are filled. Its fucking hard as fuck to be Ambrose’s fan.

Guys I recently heard the rumour that wwe creatives and/or officials blame Seth Rollins for the shitty feud with Dean Ambrose? Can anyone confirm that it's true? Well, I hope NOT because WE all know WHO to blame for that...

So, About That "Boring" TLC Match

No, this match didn’t have to be a TLC match to make it good, but AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan had a great match without a stip, so I am at a loss as to why this match went the way it did. Both these men are world class wrestlers.

I do think that this match was already at a disadvantage for several reasons: people were already asking why this wasn’t a TLC match before the PPV began, the match was very long (almost 22 minutes, I believe), and it was in a filler spot towards the end of a very long PPV. There was also an already preconceived notion of how this match was going to go because WWE sold this match on raw emotion and animosity between two former brothers that would erupt into violence, but what we got instead was a more technical affair.  

In a feud that was certainly lacking heat, fans were looking to get invested emotionally in this story again and a subtle, methodical match (while maybe good storytelling) did little to get across the raw emotions that we’ve been constantly told are there, but not shown in what was suppose to be a blood feud. Why are they telling instead of letting both men just show us?  

To be quite frank, this feud has been a bit of a disaster for me. There have been a few bright spots for sure, but the negatives are far outweighed the positives. I’ve told myself time and time again, that just because it is not going the way you want or expected does not mean it’s bad. Maybe they are trying something new and different, which can be good. However, after last night, I think I can finally say that I hate this feud and want it over with. I am beyond frustrated with Dean’s character, and the lack of any cohesive storyline. 

Regardless, of how people felt about circumstances of the night Dean turned, it did make it a red hot moment that shocked people and put the exclamation point on it that this would be a deeply personal feud. 

The very next show, Rollins cuts an impassioned promo saying he is fixed on him (Dean) for as long as he lived, but has Seth really been? Sure he’s tried to get answers from Dean and attacked him a couple of times, but then in other weeks he says he’s going to forget about Ambrose and hold an open challenge or face down Corbin to “save” Raw from the evil GM (I understand that the Corbin thing was more likely suppose to go to Finn, but that he was sick so Seth filled in).

Imagine, the go home angle for a “blood feud” between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose does not even feature Ambrose at all, but has Seth face off (in a stipulation match that has no bearing on Seth’s match on Sunday), against Corbin, an opponent he is not even facing on the PPV. Instead, Ambrose just stands there on the ramp, no after match beat down or match interference. Talk about a wasted opportunity to hype up their IC match and get heat on Ambrose before going into the PPV.

That’s the other thing, has Seth really suffered at all after Dean’s heel turn? I’m not talking about facial expressions or body language (both boys are masters of this, that is not the problem), but career wise and mentally. Seth won at Crown Jewel and Survivor Series, beat Dolph Ziggler in the open challenge and defeated Baron Corbin in a TLC match that was no DQ and basically a handicap match to boot.

He does all this (with relatively little difficultly) despite the commentary team constantly telling us that Seth isn’t focused, Dean’s in his head, Seth’s losing control and making bad decisions. Stop telling and start showing! Except for the backstage chase and the gas mask segment, they have not shown Seth to lack focus bad enough he’s suffering for it. At times, it seems more like a minor nuisance then something that’s been eating him up inside.

But if Seth’s narrative has been all over the place, Dean’s has been so much worse.

I’m not even going to go into detail about how many character and motivational shifts he’s gone through since his turn, but I will say that if we have to explain away the germaphobe angle for WWE (they certainly didn’t bother explaining it themselves), no matter how much it makes sense given Dean’s brush with death, then there is a problem with the narrative.

On top of that, Dean turned on October 22nd. Since then, what has he done that makes people want to see him get his comeuppance? Burned his Shield vest, mentioned Roman a couple of times (which I would argue put the heat on WWE, not Dean), told us we smell, and beat Seth down a few of times (a couple of those times, Seth attacked Dean first). Dean never interfered in a match, never cost Seth anything at all, not even his focus. This is the heel people are suppose to despise and root for Seth to desperately win against?  

What is supposed to make people care about this feud? Dean has done very little to cause people to hate him and Seth doesn’t seem any worse for wear. Seth is winning everything he steps up to, and Dean does nothing but watch him do it. Hell, Dean hadn’t even wrestled (on tv) for the past twos months to remind people that he’s a real threat to Rollins.

Whether right or wrong, many were thinking this match would be a barn burner with action and pure emotion. That this would reestablish this feud’s momentum and wash away some of character and storyline issues that proceeded it. Any other time, a psychological match with sedate pacing would have been well received, but this was not the match we were told to expect.

I know went a little all over the place in this rant, but these are just my thoughts and opinions on the current state of this feud and Sunday’s match. I definitely don’t begrudge people who are enjoying this feud, Dean’s character, and the overall narrative (I’m glad there are people who do), but I sadly can’t force myself anymore. I will support Dean Ambrose to my dying day, but god, do I wish better things for him.

Back when Seth turned on Dean, Dean literally lost his mind. He cried, he went crazy all over Seth and he literally took Seth to hell with him. Everyone could see the emotional destruction caused by Seth’s actions. Dean WAS fixed on Seth. Nothing else mattered.

All of that is completely missing with this version of their feud. And that is why it has failed. Dean and Seth deserved better. I agree 100% with you on every point.

So. I dunno what to say about Raw. It was a lousy episode and I have to admit I don‘t think it‘s getting better. I don‘t want another feud between Seth and Dean if it‘s starting so lousy. It‘s like getting a meal warmed up from 4 years ago.

I was really hyped for the next episode but with Catweazle in the ring shouting at Dean and all the „If you‘re not coming down here I‘m coming up“ blabla and no explanation at all... I mean really?

Dean‘s matches were so much better and more entertaining in the past than they are now so I guess I won‘t regret that I canceled my subscription for Sky Sports. If every episode is that lame, they‘re really destoying something I liked.

One thing I would mention, and its just how I feel. Dean didn’t forgive Seth on his own terms. Seth basically shoved his apology in Dean’s face until Dean accepted it. Seth got his redemption a little too easily, so this had to come. I don’t feel sorry for Seth. I am one of those who feel Dean’s justified in his attack on Seth. I don’t see it as a betrayal. I see it as a man finally breaking completely. He was held together with a glue (Roman) and he exploded. He wasn’t laughing, he wasn’t gloating…He was crying and screaming in anguish and throwing gold at Seth and screaming at Seth. That’s not a betrayal. That’s a scared emotionally shattered man finally reaching his breaking point. 

How I see it as, he never got over Seth’s betrayal. It changed him. But he tried, okay. Fuck he tried. But then he got injured and went through a fight for his life and Seth had to replace him with Jordan. Again, the gold was involved. Dean wasn’t angry with Roman. His anger seemed to be directed at Seth last week. He wasn’t hiding his feelings. He came off as conflicted and hurt and distraught and with Roman gone, Dean’s pain got too much and he no longer can control his rage. Seth’s betrayal costed Dean everything but Roman. Now Roman’s gone. Dean’ll destroy everything in his path cuz he is in too much pain and doesn’t know what to do with all these emotions and pain. 

Once, Seth did this exact thing. Only thing, like a post said few days ago, Dean’s turn came out of hurt and anguish of years. As much as I hate to say it, Seth had it coming and even he knew it. That’s why he almost wanted Dean to get it done and over with. He knew he had pushed Dean to this point. All his attempts, all his redemption, they don’t heal a man like Dean. Dean got in his face last week so its not like he wasn’t giving out hints of how much he was bothered with Seth (for what specific reason I don’t know).

Also, I think Dean and Seth need to go through this in order to reach their final stage. Where Dean’s gotten back at Seth for destroying him once. Where Seth’s no longer feeling undeserving of this forgiveness and brotherhood he got back with Dean. Where they can finally be equals.

This also brings me to another thought. I always used to imagine The Shield getting inducted into the HOF and I used to think if all three would be there. And how if Dean would be there to induct Roman when its Roman’s time. And now with the news regarding Roman…My heart is just broke. I am so overwhelmed with all these sad emotions.

I don't exactly see that as a heel turn. Dean had his issues with Seth and it was about time that he exploded. We're not knowing where Dean's mind will be next week or what WWE had planned for him so as for now, I call it revenge or something like that. Maybe I am missing something in all that?!

Dean Ambrose and his character...

There is one thing really interesting about Dean’s character I have been noticing more and more lately. He has often talked bout how he doesn’t like that he’s labelled as a lunatic or crazy and he was very offended when once Roman called him that in a promo even in a fun way. Last night he took offense to it again when Seth called him that. 

Have you all noticed how Dean’s called crazy/lunatic over having normal emotions/reactions/feelings? Its like he’s shamed for being human. He also does not express his feelings and suffers, self destructs, get all angsty…cuz he thinks having those feelings make him not normal. So he fights against them, until he cannot anymore and that is when he starts acting out like he’s been acting out most recently.

You see, betrayals, hunting for limelight, doing what’s best for business, gunning for titles…Its all what everyone expects you to do in this business. So when Dean says titles don’t mean as much to him as his family does, and when he acts on his very human emotions and frustrations, we all get confused. Some call it jealousy. Some call it Dean turning his back on his brothers. Dean doesn’t open up, so it leaves everyone guessing. But in reality, he’s simply hurt and frustrated cuz he cannot be like others and stop giving a shit. No matter how angry and hurt he is, he cannot stop himself from coming to the aid of Roman/Seth. He is way too loyal for his own good. He wanna move on from the Shield, he wanna go find himself, but he’s just so lost without the sense of security Roman/Seth provide him with. He’s all heart and he doesn’t wanna be cuz all it ends in is Dean being hurt. He wanna tell Roman/Seth how broken he is, he wants them to KNOW that and heal him. But he knows it’ll make him weak in their eyes. So he puts up a tough front and pretends he’s fine and just having his ambrose moments.

Now, I wanna point out, its not only Dean who’s holding onto the Shield. Roman is the Universal Champion. Seth is the IC champion. But they have put everything on hold cuz they are too busy with The Shield. I mean, yeah Seth is winning qualifying matches and Roman’s bout to have a match with Braun, but still. They are wrapped up in this heart wrenching emotional drama with their boy when they both can say fuck you to The Shield and go on do their own business. They were doing fine before Dean came back, so its not that they are hurting Dean intentionally. They just got used to giving Dean space, when probably for the first time in his life Dean needs their comfort and words and them crowding him and making him feel trapped. Cuz else Dean will fall down. He needs them to hold him and tell him with words he’s needed and loved. Roman and Seth both have had their insensitive moments, honestly mainly Seth. But they both have been genuinely worried for Dean. They always welcome him with open arms when he comes back after another moody episode. They let him be, cuz they think this is what you do when you love someone. But after Dean’s traumatic injury, maybe Dean needs more than that.

Anyways, I think deep down Dean’s frustrations are with himself. Maybe his frustration come from the very fact that he is not allowed to be upset over things he should be upset at? Like he felt replaced but he cannot express that without sounding like a baby and feeling guilty for acting like a butthurt child. He cares too deeply. He loves too intensely. His feelings are too sensitive. He’s holding onto Roman/Seth desperately. And he probably feels stupid cuz he thinks Roman/Seth’s priorities are not at all on the same level. And he can’t blame them. Not really. So he lashes out. Can’t form words. But then when he even thinks about the thought of being without Roman/Seth, he freaks out and jumps back into their fights. He’s beyond conflicted and confused and I think it makes him one of the most genuine humanly character ever in WWE. 

I would also like to point out, when he suddenly asked Roman ‘who’s side are you on’, it gave away a lot of repressed feelings. I always thought Dean never understood how Roman forgave Seth so easily. He loves Roman. Roman is his die and ride, so he followed Roman and forgave Seth too. They got the Shield back. But he just does not understand Roman. He thinks since he’s not like Roman and forgiving, it somehow make him a bad guy? So he tries to be forgiving. But its killing him. He somehow maybe felt betrayed by Roman? Cuz after everything Roman and Dean have been through, Dean expect Roman to be on his side automatically? Maybe he needed that blind assurance from Roman and he didn’t got that.

Still, Dean never once lashed out on Roman. Whatever problems he’s having its clear they have more to do with Seth and his trust being shattered all those years ago. The scars remain there, and they keep reminding Dean of how stupid he once was before and he would have no one to blame but himself if he gets hurt again. Roman will be okay cuz he was okay before. Seth broke Dean, and he’ll be broken again and he wouldn’t be able to express his pain cuz no one understands why he loves and attach himself so deeply. Why he can’t just keep business, business.

I think if something Roman does hurts Dean, its probably Roman putting Dean and Seth on the same level. You could see it through that moment. Dean feels Roman and him share a complete different bond and he doesn’t understand when Roman doesn’t blindly pick his side and comfort him. Roman used to comfort him when Seth left. That’s where his doubt in Roman probably comes from. And he feels like he doesn’t belong in The Shield cuz he’s not a winner like Seth and Roman.

Anyways, just needed to put my thoughts in words. I dunno how accurate my analysis is, but one thing is for sure, Dean Ambrose is one of the most genuine emotionally loaded character ever.

This year everything is right, no one is sick, everyone of the three is on the right brand, everyone is up for it and SUDDENLY THEY‘RE MAKING (a lousy) CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT what WWE failed over the past years? Are you fucking kidding me???
