The archangel gave a snort, only to throw himself down onto Chuck’s ratty old couch and toss an arm over his eyes. Gabriel peered out from underneath of it to shoot the prophet a grin.

"Yes, of course. I'd miss all the angels fluttering into my house and pestering me about updates. Especially those visits around four in the morning when I finally get to sleep." 

He slumped into the armchair across from Gabriel, taking a sip from his glass.  He wanted to roll his eyes at the grin on Gabriel's face, but he was either too tired or maybe a little happy that this particular angel wasn't unpleasant like the rest; there was a certain air about him that instead made a small smile cross the prophet's face.

"Usually angels don't just drop by to lounge on my couch. So what is it that you want?"

He leaned in close to Chuck, putting his fingers over his mouth as he muttered his next statement.

        “But just between you and me, the threat was empty.                                     I’ve kinda been cut off.”

And then he removed his hand from the side of his mouth and waved it in a cutting motion at his throat as he made a sound effect with his mouth.

              “If you know what I mean.”

"My Grace was locked in that locket that your crazy leader took. We are miles from the camp and I got nothing to heal myself with. I’m human, Chuck. If you don’t do this, then I’m stuck here and you’re running off on your own with no backup. I can still shoot without a leg." Lucifer said firmly, hissing as he shifted, leg trapped under the rubble of the building that had collapsed on them.

He gripped Chuck’s arm and groaned as pain coarser through him. “Get the blow torch. Heat the machete and swing. The hot metal will seal the wound so I don’t bleed out.” Lucifer said quickly and groaned in pain, hearing the sounds of the Croats outside had him tensing, the pain from the movement having fighting to keep back a scream.

No, no, no. Was about the only word going through the prophet’s head.  This was supposed to be a simple recon mission.  He told them, he told them that he wasn’t cut out for any kind of field work; they wouldn’t listen, Dean never listened.  “Oh, god. Oh, god,” Chuck muttered.  He kept trying to think of anyway to get around amputation, but staring down at Lucifer he knew that it was the only way both of them were going to make it back. “I-I just—I don’t think that—“ He stopped when he heard them.

Oh, god. We’re going to die here.

He wasn’t sure if he said that out loud, though it didn’t matter.  The prophet stood up quickly, his breath was rapid as he looked from the street through the broken walls back to Lucifer. 

“Okay, okay.” He nodded absently, stepping away from his comrade to find the blow-torch; it wasn’t far from them.  Chuck set his machete on a slab of concrete, ignited the torch and held the flame over the blade.  When he extinguished the flame, he stood silent for a moment, listening for the Croats, though he couldn’t hear much over his own heart-beat.  He grabbed the machete and stood over Lucifer, raising the blade over his own head; his hands surprisingly steady despite his strained nerves.  He took in a shaky breath, focusing on his target.  “I-I’m sorry—“ Chuck brought the blade down—hard.

He gave a start, still unused to there suddenly being people--angels, demons, Winchesters--in his house.  Chuck sighed, pouring himself another drink.

"I would if I could. But then I wouldn't have Archangel Security anymore."
