what often bothers me when people talk about black american life is that they don’t place it in the proper macro context. this is the context within which black american life happens...
there is literally no part of black american life that is not affected by white supremacy. the goal for black americans should be to find a way to this
white people can have their space with their white supremacy where they build everything in a manner that privileges and benefits them and black americans have their space where we build things that privilege and benefit us. then we interact only when necessary or when it is mutually beneficial. the great thing about black supremacy (if we ever get a chance to really build it) is that it won’t be based on the murder of millions of natives, the enslavement of another race, the oppression of another race and the like. we’ll leave that history, that blood, that evil with white people and white supremacy where it belongs.
now as many have stated, this may not be possible without straight up leaving this country and finding a way to our own place on earth to do this (and no africa isn’t on the list cause they’ve made it clear on many occasions they don’t want us). so this is a very very long term dream. i don’t think it’s ever going to happen as long as we are in the states because white supremacy is literally a part of the fabric of this country. it would be like tearing off a person’s skin.
however until that day, black american life happens within the context of white supremacy and so you must take the many centuries long affect of white supremacy when discussing everything from black wealth, black crime, black family, black music, black relationships, black dating, black domestic issues, black divorce rates, black health… hell even black hair. the poison of white supremacy has seeped into every facet of black life.
