Mu Qing, Shen Jiu and Jiang Cheng are all similar types of character to me, even if they’re not necessarily similar personality-wise. And no I can’t explain it.

I saw a post the other day that said "the one thing Jiang Fengmian did right was getting rid of Jiang Cheng's dogs" and I saw A LOT of people agreeing with that sentiment and it actually made me so sad.

Because yes, absolutely I believe JFM had a duty to the child that he brought into his home and needed to keep those dogs away from WWX cause he had hardcore trauma.

JFM was ALSO a Sect Leader of an incredibly large and prominent sect and he had so many options.

- keep the (already well trained) dogs in one specific section of Lotus Pier that WWX wouldn't have to enter

- find a disciple to adopt the dogs so JC could visit

- find literally anyone in Yunmeng to take the dogs so JC could visit

- have a freaking conversation with his son about sending the dogs away instead of just vanishing them in secret

But no. He just gets rid of the dogs without a second thought for Jiang Cheng. Add in to the equation that Jiang Cheng almost definitely got those dogs from either JFM (who never really showed him affection) or YZY, and it hurts so much.

When people share that take, it tells me they either 1) simply hate JC (who was like 10 when he lost his dogs) or 2) they've never had a pet and don't understand how deeply a pet owner cares about their pets.

I literally loved my dog to the ends of the hells the second I brought him home and people claiming that JC losing his dogs can't be traumatizing cause WWX's trauma was worse lack the skills to empathize for two people at once in a tough situation

idk, man, i think that if i lost everything and almost everyone ive ever known and loved, got caught on purpose so that my brother could live, taken back to my now destroyed home where the bodies of my parents were hanging as trophies and the bodies of everyone in my community piled up, got tortured by the men who killed my family, a vital part of myself destroyed, somehow got rescued by a friend of my brother i didnt even know he had so now im alive and no way to restore my parent's legacy or protect my siblings, who are the only other two people alive that i care about, got like three business days to process everything before my brother, who is stronger, faster and smarter than me, that i trust with my life, that always managed to pull off the impossible to the point that my father clearly preferred him over me, told me there's a way to get back in the fight by going to his deceased mother's (who i never met) elusive immortal teacher (who almost no one knows) so she could restore the vital part of myself that got destroyed and i was still highly suicidal and possibly delirious from the all the emotional and physical trauma i JUST went through, i would probably have believed him too but maybe that's just me idk

Jiang Cheng will crouch down, pet Fairy, give her a couple of cookies, smile, give her a kiss on the snout, stand up and with the most serious look tell you that the dog is fat and spoiled because of Jin Ling.

Jiang Cheng nods in understanding and thinks to himself "Good. if he isn't mine, he won't fall to my curse".

FYI, if you have critical thinking skills and/or a modicum of empathy, you CAN love Wei Wuxian AND Jiang Cheng at the same time. They are both incredibly complex characters AND their relationship is so complicated and the majority of the complication is completely outside their control. NGL I fully believe that WWX would be absolutely heartbroken if he heard all the vitriol the JC haters spew.
