GETTING MORE THAN YOU SIGNED UP FOR isn’t something he’s used to. when this little back and forth started he was sure they’d kill nereus and send her on her way to do god knows what ryus needs her for. but god help him, he’s realizing that he’d miss her –and he’s keenly aware of how much he misses her every time she pulls away. but now she’s closer than ever, and he close the gap entirely with just one kiss. 

❛ i can think of a few other places i’d like you. ❜ like right here, snug in his arms under the feint glow of a streetlight. he can see her inch in, and the pull he feels is downright magnetic. knowing it’s unwise to engage further and wanting to are two different things –but it feels like he’s on autopilot when he does it anyway. hand tangling in her hair, he pulls her in that extra inch, lips pressed against hers. 

but he stops himself, pulling apart while still staying close cause any distance from her feels like anguish. ❛ i– ❜ he’s not sure what the game they’re playing even is anymore, but it feels like the stakes are changing by the minute. ❛ i can still teach you. we’ll see where it goes. ❜ because that feels easier to address than the big elephant in the room right now.

SHE NEVER BOUGHT INTO IT. the whole ‘being able to cut tension with a knife’ saying wasn’t real. it didn’t matter how solid the tension was-- it could always go away with the blink of an eye. one wrong word or action and that tension that so many people sought out in a partner could vanish. she was just desperately hoping whatever they had between them wouldn’t suffer that fate. she wasn’t sure if she would be able to handle the one positive thing in her life being taken away from her like that.

she doesn’t really get a chance to get him to elaborate on that before their lips meet. helping ease all of the tension they had been building over the past few weeks, something that had been so prevalent since she kissed him first-- it wasn’t exactly a smart way to start a business deal but she didn’t regret it in the slightest. she meant every word when she thanked him for the few minutes of freedom that night, with him she was free. how could she regret being with someone who made her feel that way?

❛ alright. ❜   she still hasn’t wiped the smile off of her face, just happy that there was another kiss shared between them. cementing the fact that it wasn’t just her. that he felt something there too. it was more than enough to make her night even better.   ❛ promise you won’t be a sore loser. ❜

she tucks herself into his side after giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. leading the way to her apartment a few blocks away, finally getting somewhere with him.

HE’S NEVER BEEN GOOD AT REFUSING HER. how could he when she’s asking to him to stay with that bottom lip pout of hers, voice soft but demanding. and charles isn’t that type of guardian –he wouldn’t ask where he was by morning– that made the decision that much easier. 

silently, he crawls into bed next to her, a slight nod beforehand to convey that he would in fact stay as was asked. arms wrap around her loosely from behind, giving her enough room to wiggle out should she need to get up in the middle of the night. ❛ sleep tight, princess. ❜

LIGHT CREPT THROUGH HER CURTAINS, far too early for her tastes. head pounding as the hangover set in. she rolled over to try and escape the morning light— only to put her face into a chest that she wasn’t aware was there. panic sets in for a few seconds, making itself known in how tense she got.

once she remembers that scott spent the night her body relaxed.   ❛ g’morning. ❜   her voice isn’t much more than a grumble, but he should be thankful he got addressed at all this early in the day. she was not a morning person, especially after drinking.

HE CAN FEEL HER DRIFTING before the infliction even hits her tone. this time, the slurred words are more of a result of her tiredness than the alcohol she’d ingested earlier though he can still tell what she’s saying. he’s not sure if this is just the liquor talking or if he actually would have been her first had they gone through with it. but the more she drifts, the less urgent he finds that question to ask. 

slowly, he moves to turn off the tv, careful not to jerk too much and wake her. scooping her up, he carries her to the front of the bed, resting her head against her pillows and tucking her in gently. she won’t remember this in the morning –he knows that– but he leans in and kisses her forehead anyway. knowing she can’t really hear, he whispers quietly, ❛ glad you were gonna be mine too, princess. ❜

IT FELT LIKE SLEEPING IN A CAR. knowing when you were taking corners, waking up just down the street from your home. she knew he was moving but there wasn’t much she could do about it, just about at the brink of falling asleep. just barely awake enough to feel him tuck her in, hearing the vaguest of whispers as he gave her forehead a kiss.

a quiet, sleepy noise of protest leaves her. eyes still closed as she uses the last bit of energy she can muster to lift the blanket up ever so slightly.   ❛ stay. ❜   it wasn’t really much of a last request as much as it was a demand. not like she would be awake enough to really tell if he listened in a minute or so, but she sure hoped he did.
