the amount of times i’ve stress-cried this week is honestly embarrassing at this point.

our county caved to the deep red parents and we started the school year “like normal.” no masks. no social distancing. business as usual. this was 10 days ago.

in our school alone we now have over 50 students and 10 staff members quarantined. we’re a small school. this is a big chunk. in just over a week we’ve had 8 positive students and 4 positive staff. 1 of our staff members is on a ventilator.

1 of the positive students is mine. my first ever positive student. when i tell you my stomach was in knots… i know statistically speaking, he will most likely be okay, but my anxiety is through the roof.

and contact tracing took out nearly half my class. so on top of doing my master’s, i am now teaching digitally and in-person for two weeks. i. am. exhausted.

and then today i woke up with mild covid symptoms. so even though i’m vaccinated, i had to find a sub so i could be tested since i had a positive student and they wouldn’t let me step foot in the building without negative results. (which they were negative—they think i have some other viral something.)

we have gone back to implementing some social distancing, and masks are “strongly recommended” but we can’t enforce them.

10 days. all of this has happened within 10 days.

I truly am obsessed with how Knives Out was like. Hello Daniel Craig, man who has spent the past two decades of his career being alternately beaten up and objectified playing an action hero with no personality. Would you like to please put on a shirt and an incomprehensible vaguely Texan accent and flex your character acting dark comedy muscles as well as your pecs for a while. And he’s like BOY WOULD I and they made a work of art. Also love that they put Chris Evans in sweaters. Get your beefcakes then dress them nice make them soft and give them some bonkers character work to do it’s what cinema needs more of

Jed portrayed the shapeshifting alien taking the form of a Norwegian dog in John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982). Jed was half-wolf, half Canadian malamute, and according to Carpenter, was an excellent animal actor—after becoming familiar with the cast and crew, he would not look at the camera, crew, or dolly during scenes. Jed’s quiet manner perfectly reflected the alien’s unsettling nature. Jed would go on to act in a few other movies, and lived on his trainer Clint Rowe’s animal sanctuary until his death at age eighteen—quite old for a dog of his breed.
