I watched Project Hail Mary. I cried over an alien-rock, I don't know how to feel about it. I wasn't expecting to actually like the movie.

I don't usually watch science fiction but i loved it. I can't believe it was sooo good I'm actually thinking about checking out the book (not my genre but I'll have it in mind).

The most impressive thing about this episode, honestly, was how they handled Sage's character. They created this gorgeous, almost imperceptible parallel between her and Homelander. After what happened with Soldier Boy, she realized her abilities aren't infallible. She realized there will always be some things that could thwart her expectations and that nothing is guaranteed. She realized her powers aren't a constant she could depend on and that she had been so arrogant and confident in herself that she had subconsciously taken the role of God and played with the world like it was some chessgame. And instead of pursuing that fantasy... she stepped away.

Because of her intellect and proclivity to detect patterns where the normal human brain wouldn't, she has always been weighed by this sense of impending doom that will inevitably fall on humanity. So much so that she frequently lobotomizes herself to stop the thoughts. So, she has learned that it's the little things in life that make it meaningful. Books, food, sex, etc. She has learned to value them, because nothing she did in the long run was inherently immutable. She had been betrayed by the one thing she could always rely on and is now scared to do so again. Instead, she lets it go. Now, instead of following into Homelander's footsteps, she changed course. She learns from observing him and his mistakes. She recognises that trying to play God would get her killed and, even if it didn't, it wouldn't make her happy. It wouldn't fulfil her. It's all meaningless in the end. Humans will destroy each other no matter what, no matter if she accelerates it or not, no matter who played God. Nothing she did made any difference in the end. She chooses to spend the time she has the way she wants. She chooses to be free. Free of expectations. Free of the knowledge that nothing matters. Free to live life and make the most of what she has. That's what that smile in the end was.

I think the shadowhunters tv show permanently damaged peoples perception of the lightwood siblings bc everyone seems to think alec is this emo insecure boy with hot confident siblings when in reality jace spends 6 books going "what if i'm irredeemable and evil i need to kill myself 1000 times" and isabelle is desperately trying to cover up the damage her fathers infidelity did to her perception of love and relationships with a male manipulator persona meanwhile alec is just like "ok so obviously you people need help but my rich hot boyfriend is flying me to france so i dont have time to worry about all that rn. bye 👋"

I'm rereading the infernal devices for the first time in my adult life post-abusive relationship and post-acceptance of chronic illness and it is crazy what specific things I am noticing now that I've never noticed before.

Charlotte (a 23 year old woman) is running the Insitute in a time when women weren't even deemed societal appropriate if they wore PANTS

Tessa is intended by her brother to be the sacrificial lamb for his sins, and she recognizes the root of that before he even acknowledges it when she says that he was always babied and spoiled etc and has not seen consequences or issue with his actions prior to [present book time]

Jem is disabled. Jem is chronically ill and fucking disabled. He is also depicted as attractive as hell, charming beyond belief, and an incredible warrior. At no point does anyone discredit him because of his illness, and Cassie even takes the time to say that "if anyone thought it odd to see a boy of such a young age using a walking stick, they said no such thing." Outside of that, Jem's illness is depicted realistically, but it is never used as pandering or inspiration p0rn. It is so fucking pleasant that a main character is allowed to exist disabled, it can contribute to the plot, but nobody in the story is fucking weird about it. Also, his best friend opting to partner with him for life as fighting partners and blood brothers? Not letting Jem's condition change anything about how [Will] perceives him as both a fighter and a brother? Immaculate.

Period accurate societal expectations being addressed: Sophie losing her job because of her face being cut (pretty privilege, parlor maid pre-req being that you must be attractive to look at); Jessamine fighting so avidly against her training because it is unladylike and she fears it will prevent her from leading the life of a "normal woman" of the time.

I’m not a fan of ai, but I can accept that if someone chooses to use ai for their fics or their art, that is their choice. not something I agree with. but still not my business, and I will never condone harassment.

if anything, I think it’s better if these people feel comfortable enough to tag their stuff as ai, so that other people can avoid their works if they’re not comfortable with ai-generated contents.

that said, I think ai writers will stop tagging their stuff as ai entirely if people shame or harass them for it.

so now their stuff is still ai, just untagged, meaning there’s no way for others to know if it’s ai.

keep in mind that speculation, accusations and witch hunt harm genuine artists and writers as much as ai does, if not more.

so if you go to the “ai-generated” tag on ao3 just to harass people for using ai, just know that you’re not actually fighting against ai — you’re just being a bully and you’re also making people more wary of properly tagging their ai-generated works as such. so you’re just making sure they no longer tag their ai-generated stuff as ai. also you can be reported for harassment, and ao3 will not take your side. (whether or not you like it, ai-generated works are allowed on ao3, whereas harassment is not.)

the “ai-generated” tag on ao3 is there so people can either find or avoid works with ai (but in order for it to work, ai users must feel comfortable enough to be honest and tag their works properly, that won’t happen if people keep shaming and harassing them for it — the only thing harassment will do is make sure ai stuff go untagged, harassment doesn’t stop people from using ai).

the “ai-generated” tag is not there so that you can freely harass people with no consequences.
