Re reading the long game again and i’m at the part where Shane proposes and I’m still squealing, tearing up like the first time I read it. These two have so much love for each other, and YES, their communication has been horrible. Shane knows Ilya has been struggling, but it’s been impossible for him to understand why because Ilya has been trying to carry this heavy load of trauma and depression all on his own, scared of not being good enough for him. Poor Shane just wants to help but Ilya refuses to share that part of himself and let himself be vulnerable. Still they manage to figure it out, albeit slowly. I also love that it’s said that marriage doesn’t magically fix a mental illness. They love each other so much, and they’re both trying their best in the only ways the know ):
