Transatlantic accent
Interesting info regarding the American Transatlantic accent. I’d basically say this is pretty much the same as what General/Standard-Canadian English accent is today.

Why must everything always be an “either / or” thing?
Why can’t they just cater to both sides? Why must we have to pick one orthe other? What if I use both formats interchangeably and would rather not ever have to make a reading choice based solely on the fact of print format being inaccessible? I mean, digital media is the newest reading format so obviously all the publishers must jump on that…

On the Duggars and the Locus of Outrage I’ve never seen this show and nor do I ever want to see it. Fortunately, we don’t subscribe to cable TV so no risk there in that regard.

Why in the world would I pay a monthly subscription fee for broadcast TV that is normally free? Also, CBS.com has long had their shows online for free streaming, which was awesome and I loved them for doing that wayyyy before other competing broadcast channels like ABC, FOX, and NBC did.
For a long while CBS had all the full episodes of current their current TV shows up which were…

Anna:
The feelings of grief – the anguish, the loss, the abandonment – is so eloquently described in this poem by Gabrille Bryden that I had to reblog it on my blog. All credit goes to her, obviously. These powerful emotions of dolor are so vivid, daunting, especially at the onset when all can seem like a fathomless depth of eternal anguish and neverending suffrage. Although the dejection of…

Catasetum expansum (Ecuador)
Catasetums, unlike most orchids, produce male and female flowers seperately (which look almost nothing alike) and are a fairly diverse group of orchids with color variations occurring among orchids of the same species from different regional areas. This led to a lot of confusion from a taxonomic sense and many species were described many times under different names. Most of the variation occurs in the more colorful male flowers and Catasetum expansum is no different. Flowers can bloom in varying shades of yellow to green and have intense spotting in reds and browns or have none at all.
This is a favorite of mine with its green flowers and egg yolk colored prominence on the lip. These tend to be visited by euglosine bees and as they are drawn into the flower by its fragrance and color it will inevitably brush by the “trigger” guarding the opening of the nectary and be smacked across the forehead by the pollen that is waiting compressed in the staminode. Once the bee has regained its composure, it usually will go about its business again this time depositing the pollen on the stigmatic surface of the flower and complete the pollination process (or stumble onto another flower only to be assaulted again).
I have written previously about the culture of Catasetums and their relatives under #cycnoches.
‘To The Point’ hosted by Warren Olney on KCRW with guests from ProPublica and NYTimes vis-à-vis the NSA’s newest domestic (and International) spying/eavesdropping and surveillance practices. It’s just more of the ”oh we don’t do THAT” ”No, no its all just metadata” which then becomes ”well, ok, yes we are in your Inbox and telephone and we now have chips magically implanted within each one you…bwahahaha!” And we let this happen….they break constitutional laws. they cover it up. they deny and lie…and lie somwhere. they get caught/whistleblown. they continue. NOBODY SEEMS TO EFFIN SEE THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM HERE! It’s not about your little personal chatlogs and facebook messages or even your texts; its about the bigger picture - that by doing nothing or just being ”whatever” about surveillance of this sort opens (or moreover, has opened) a ginormous can of slimy worms, thus permitting them to do whatever they please and sooner or later, yessir, we become a pure, godawful Orwellian society, losing every bit and beyond than what America is supposed to stand for.
Why, thank you, vodka-to-go.

1.8M-year-old skull gives glimpse of our evolution DMANISI, Georgia (AP) — The discovery of a 1.8-million-year-old skull of a human ancestor buried under a medieval Georgian village provides a vivid picture of early evolution and indicates our family tree may have fewer branches than some believe, scientists say.
