Tips on Surviving This Shit
Think of this as like a master-post of stuff I’ve learned over the years of having an ed that helps to keep you from not dying. This is not a post for providing tips on how to hide your ed or how to starve or purge better. I’m pro-recovery and want to help people survive. Feel free to screenshot or add your own tips below.
Supplements
Multivitamins (get one with minerals added such as iron, zinc, etc.)
Electrolytes (drink some whenever you’re feeling light-headed, experiencing heart palpitations, or have muscle cramps. Especially useful while fasting. I recommend one that contains potassium, chloride, and magnesium on top of sodium.)
Omega-3 + Vitamin D (super important for mood regulation and brain functioning. Helps to keep the brain fog away.)
Biotin + Folate + Vitamin E (can help with brittle hair and nails as well as dry skin.)
Probiotics + Fiber (super helpful for keeping bowel movements regular. I recommend a natural fiber such as psyllium husk.)
General Tips
When eating under 1200cal only do light exercise such as yoga or pilates for a maximum of 20 min a day. If you feel dizzy or light-headed stop immediately.
Do not fast for more than 18 hours if you are anemic or have insulin resistance or PCOS. I’ve passed out from a hypo-glycemic episode after only fasting for 20 hours because of this.
Get a heating blanket or a heating pad. No explanation needed.
Do not brush your teeth immediately after bingeing. Swish some water and baking soda in your mouth instead. This will help to neutralize the stomach acid and prevent damage to the tooth enamel. Wait at least 20 min before brushing your teeth.
Try to eat foods with lots of protein, Vitamin C, and calcium. These support your body in various ways.
Get your fluids in. Dry-fasting is incredibly dangerous and potentially lethal. Our bodies are around 60% water and this percentage fluctuates throughout the day. Water is essential for life my dudes.
Don’t drink more than four cups of coffee a day (400mg caffeine). You don’t want to end up in the hospital.
Instead of fasting for days on end, try to break them up with a small meal at least every 24 hours. This will help keep your metabolism running, your digestive system functioning properly, and maintain blood-glucose levels (no brain fog).
Instead of outright banning certain types of food, allow yourself to eat anything within your cal limit. This helps to prevent bingeing.
Another thing that helps to prevent bingeing is to have a small planned sweet every day. I recommend Jell-O, hot coco, popsicles, fudgsicles, Yasso bars, yoghurt cups, and small candies. Don’t get the sugar-free version because your body can tell the difference and it’ll just feel like you’re faking yourself out. The recommended daily sugar intake for women is 25g and for men is 38g.
That’s pretty much all I could think of for now. I’ll add more tips if I think of any and I hope this helps somebody :)
