the thing about mundane aus that a lot of people don't grasp is that the universe around you shapes who you are. yeah, draco and harry will probably still be sniping at each other as coworkers at a coffee shop, but what's the reason for that tension between them? in canon they aren't at each other's throats purely for the fun of it - draco is a pompous racist little prick who insulted harry's best friend and reminds him of his awful cousin; harry turned down draco's offer of friendship without so much as a "thanks but no thanks" - so why are they in your au?

i'm actually totally fine with people doing mundane aus where like, death eaters aren't actually part of an [x] supremacist death cult, but like... what are their values then? you're not even making lucius and narcissa posh ffs, let alone tories (which they absolutely would be). there's no thought that goes into it.

and already mundane canons aren't an exception to coffee shop aus, either, for the most part
