Dropping this new illustration inspired by The Mortal Instruments by @cassandraclare, featuring the crew from the New York Institute! Featured on a HUGE puzzle, part of the 2021 Literary Locations add-ons from LitJoy Crate! This was such an action-heavy illustration! So much pose! So much SFX! But I had to shove everyone out to the edges to make room for the centerpiece figure of the NY Institute building! We wanted to feature the true building and a super-imposed image of its glamour as a ruined cathedral. If it’s not apparent, I’m a huge fan of using dutch angles and wide angle perspectives in my illustrations - and that absolutely had to happen here to fit in the sheer size of the building and its surroundings. I’ve always found spherical perspective drawing so much more dynamic and fun to build! 😤✨🧡
Heroes aren't always the ones who win. They're the ones who lose, sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up. That's what makes them heroes.

“There’s no way around it, is there?” I ask. “We’re mortal enemies and I should be trying to kill you and everyone like you.”
He leans over, touches the tip of his forehead to mine, and closes his eyes. “Yes.” His gentle breath caresses my lips as he says the word.
I close my eyes too, and try to focus on the warmth of his forehead resting on mine.
o, death won’t you spare me over another year?
“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”

2019 Books. ⋙ The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
“I am going to drown you,” it whispered, and lunged. Vasya made no answer; instead her cupped hand came down on the water like a thunderclap. The chyert jerked back and Vasya snapped, “An immortal sorcerer could not kill me and neither could a priest with all Moscow at his beck—what makes you think you can?” “You came into my lake,” returned the chyert, baring black teeth. “To swim, not to die!” “That is for me to decide.”
Serpent & Dove - 3 September 2019
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. But when Lou pulls a wicked stunt, the two are forced into an impossible situation–marriage.
Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice. And love makes fools of us all.
Our Review
His limbs turned to vapour. Cold seeped into his chest. Voices of spirits whispered in his ears: Help us. Remember us. Join us. He hadn’t realized how much he had relied on Reyna. Without her strength, he felt as weak as a newborn colt, wobbling dangerously, ready to fall at every step.
No, he told himself. I am Nico di Angelo, son of Hades. I control the shadows. They do not control me.
but in spite of everything, in spite of the dark and twisting path he saw stretching ahead for himself, in spite of the final meeting with voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with ron and hermione. Leigh Bardugo will be at SDCC with a print of these fine ladies of the Grishaverse. Check out @lbardugo for more details on how to snatch up a print. From Leigh herself:
“To celebrate all of the exciting things happening with the show, I wanted to bring together some of the warriors, witches, and queens from Shadow and Bone, Six of Crows, and King of Scars.”
