Y'ALL I DON'T REALLY LIKE ANY OF THE SAW MOVIES AFTER THE SECOND. THE PLOTS AND ACTING ARE GENUINELY AWFUL AND BORING IN BETWEEN TRAPS,, BUT HERE'S THE THING

I LOVE THE TRAPS. IM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE, SORRY, POSER SAW FAN I GUESS. BUT THE PLOTS ARE JUST NOT GREAT AND THE ANTAGS ARE REALLY CORNY, AND I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THE SAW MOVIES BECAUSE THE TRAP SCENES WERE SO GOOD, BUT ITS JUST SO BORING WHEN IT COMES TO EXPOSITION.

Idk the medieval torture device-inspired traps were super duper awesome like

Other than the clear inspiration they took from the OG Rack, it also had the "nice forced curling on normally non-curl-able parts" aspect of the Breaking Wheel.

And okok so FUN FACT AND POP UP HISTORY LESSON: The Breaking Wheel (or "The Catherine Wheel") works by tying a dude to a wheel (kinda weaving his limbs around the base), and breaking his bones with an iron bar. It is described as being like "every bone", but I'm pretty sure you just guesstimate. Counting would be hard, plus, there are really tiny bones that you might miss anyways

This was also done in public to instill fear 🍃

And The Rack is the one that just dislocates your arms and legs by tying you down onto this wooden slab with ropes that are attached to little machine parts that'll continuously pull the rope with a,,, I think it was a crank??

And even though the first movie, the second movie, and the third movie all have drastically different tones, it's really cool to see his signature style of directing & writing, ESPECIALLY because it actually stands out.

The movie is actually really really gross tho, the practical effects are genuinely so good, and don't force yourself to watch it if you think you won't find it enjoyable.
