Josh tilted his head, noticing how Beth wasn’t looking at him. He couldn’t read her face. “No problem.” He said with a nod, “Gotcha. Can’t promise you anything but yeah.”
“Regardless of if you tell her -- or ever remember, thank you.” With her eyes now directed at her feet, Beth cleared her throat; she felt uncomfortable talking to her brother like a complete stranger, but nodded softly, “Now you can actually get out.”
joshwashinqtcn:
Josh nodded at her words, “I see. Well, I haven’t seen her.” He repeated, “If I happen to see her around here, I’ll let her know you’re here too.”
Beth cleared her throat, not even risking looking at him. Did he have such a disdain for her that two of her would be so bad? “Thank you, Josh... so much.” She gasped softly, "She wears glasses and is pretty shy and quiet."
joshwashinqtcn:
Josh furrowed his brow. Now there were two of them? This was ridiculous. “No, I haven’t seen her.” He said, “Do you mean there are two of you, then?”
“She’s my twin sister,” your little sister, too “and she’s nothing like me.” She began picking at her nails, shrugging. “So, not exactly. She just looks like me.”
you can break my soul, take my life away, beat me, hurt me, kill me. but for the love of god don’t touch him.

Josh turned around and nodded, “Yeah, go ahead.”
“You wouldn’t have happened to see a girl who looks exactly like me named Hannah, would you?” Beth mumbled while keeping her eyes off of the other. If he had met Sam already, maybe Hannah was also a possibility.
joshwashinqtcn:
“ I wasn’t aware of this particular detail, but I’ll keep it in mind. ” He said before moving his hand to say goodbye and turning around.
“Before you go,” Beth paused, her hands glued to her side so she would cross boundaries, “can I ask you something?”

Josh rolled his eyes. He hated stubborn women and he could tell she was one. He shrugged, “Maybe you spoke with that other girl––Samantha.” He simply answered. That had to be answer. Sure, they could’ve found his documents or something but it was unlikely. “I honestly don’t care how or when you found my name, I already proved you I’m not your brother so get over it.”
Beth pursed her lips, looking around for something, anything she could use to remind him who she was. “I haven’t, not once. I didn’t even know she was here,” she sighed softly, knowing she’d have to give up. As she ran her fingers through her hair, she just rolled her eyes, sticking out her hand for him to shake. “I’m Beth,” she mumbled, not even wanting him to shake her hand like a stranger.
joshwashinqtcn:
Josh carefully listened to the girl’s answers and couldn’t help but smirk. It was so satisfying proving someone wrong and that was exactly what he was doing. All her words meant nothing to him. “Wrong, wrong, wrong.” He said, shaking his head. “My parents are called Billy and Margaret, they’re a teacher and a mechanic. I don’t have a best friend, I lived in Toronto and I studied arts at university.” He said before raising his eyebrows at her last sentence. A psychiatrist? What the hell? “I saw a therapist one, true, it wasn’t a psychiatrist though.” He said, remembering that time his mother took him to see a therapist for –– he wasn’t sure. He couldn’t remember. “See? I’m not your brother.” Josh smirked, “I’m not, I’m not, I’m not.”
Beth shook her head knowing she was right, she could recall the memories so well. She remembered going to the cabin in the winter and she remembered when Josh figured out what he wanted to study at university. Her parents and her father’s awards, everything was placed somewhere, she knew them nearly chronologically. But whether it was in order or a jumbled mess, she was one-hundred percent sure it was there. And for a quick moment, she really thought he had her, but she grinned, remembering their conversation thus far. “Then tell me how I knew your first and last name without you saying a word to me. This is the first time we’ve met, right,” God, those words felt foreign, “how did I know your name was Josh Washington.”
joshwashinqtcn:
Beth’s words lit him up. That was what he could ask Samantha to prove him that he wasn’t his friend. “Alright. Then tell me my parents’ names, who my best friend is, where I live, what my parents’ jobs are, what I studied in college and anything else that comes to your mind.” He said, crossing his arms over his chest. “Go ahead, I’m waiting.” He said, almost challenging her. He was curious to hear her answers, already knowing she was going to say all the wrong things.
Beth narrowed her eyes to this challenge that she was given, if it even was a challenge. These were simple facts about her brother that she knew like the back of her hand. “Our parent’s are Bob and Melinda Washington. Your best friend is Chris but Sam is also a close friend. You -- We lived in Calgary. Our dad is a movie director and our mom was kind of just famous for being his wife. You studied Psychology and you loved it. You like to drink... a lot. And whe-when you were eleven you were referred to a psychiatrist by school due to an ‘incident.’” Beth felt her heart drop to her feet, scared that she would be proven wrong somehow, even if she had all of the right answers. Even if she knew these were the right answers.
joshwashinqtcn:
He said nothing when she said her name, not really sure what she was expecting from him. It was when she said that she was his little sister that things got weird. Josh couldn’t believe it. “First a friend, now a sister.” He said, a chuckle escaping his mouth. This was ridiculous. “Look, I’m sorry if you think I’m your brother but I’m not.” He sighed softly, “I don’t have any siblings. I think I would remember.” He added with a nod. Of course he would remember.
Doppelgänger? No way, this was him. Even doppelgängers have different voices, this was strange and any iteration of that word. Her mind raced with anything she could do to prove to him that she was his sister and nothing came to mind. If he didn’t remember, what could he remember? “No, no. I’m your sister, I swear to you. Ask me anything about you and I’ll know. Birthday, parents’ name, best friend? I know it.” Beth felt crazy, she felt like she was going insane looking at this boy ( not being able to call him brother ) and needing to prove that they were siblings. Beth needed her brother here.
